Derek Kane Hale, age 28, of Harold, Ky., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital in Pikeville, Ky., after a sudden illness.
He was born March 7, 1974, at Pikeville, Ky., the son of Joyceleen (Crider) Hale who survives him, and resides at Harold, Ky., and the late Mattison (Levie) “Buck” Hale. He was a student, and a member of the Harold Church of Christ, at Harold, Ky.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one sister, Valeria Coburn of Martin, Ky.; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Hale of Harold, Ky.; maternal grandmother, Venice Reynlds of Lexington, Ky.; and two nieces.
Funeral services were conducted, Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Harold Church of Christ, at Harold, Ky., with Evangelist James H. Harmon officiating.
Burial followed in the Hale Family Cemetery at Harold, Ky.
All arrangements were under the direction of Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky.
Active pallbearers were Jackie Bush, Eddie Randell Hamilton, Byron Coburn, Ghent Combs, Ray Byron Hale, Jason Akers, and Michael Hale.
Honorary pallbearers: Eddie Hamilton, Ricky Henson, Arnold “Red” Salisbury, Tex Mitchell, Roger Webb, Teddy Ray Tackett, Fred Goble, James “Colonel” Cline, E.L. Cline Jr., Arnold Bentley, and Josh Justice.
Ruby Grace Bradley
Ruby Grace Bradley, age 94, of Prestonsburg, Ky., passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
She was born December 19, 1907, in Spencer, WV., the daughter of the late Fred O. Bradley and Bertha Welch Bradley. She was a retired U.S. Army Colonel, having served in World War II and Korea. She received an honorary doctorate degree from WVU, and was a member of the Dulin Methodist Church, Falls Church, Virginia.
Survivors include two nephews, Charles Bradley of Prestonsburg, Ky., and William Pritchard of St. Louis, Mo.; two nieces, Carol Hawks of Chapala, Mexico, and Francis Ruth of Hanover, Maryland.
Funeral services for Ruby Grace Bradley were conducted, Saturday, June 1, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Clergyman Steve Pescosolido officiating.
Burial will be July 2, 2002, at 9 a.m., at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Visitation was after 6:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
Sara T. Ilasenko
Sara T. McNaughton Ilasenko, 77, of 36912 Almont Drive, Sterling Heights, Michigan, widow of John (Johnny) Ilasenko, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, from complications of emphysema, and ARDS of the lungs, in the Mt. Clemens General Hospital, Mt. Clemens, Mi.
Sara Trilba, was born in Floyd County, (Amba) Harold, Ky., January 5, 1925, the daughter of the late B.L. and Goldie Ella Sturgill. She completed her high school in 1943, in Prestonsburg, Ky.
She first married
Glen McNaughton and settled in Michigan. Later, in 1958, she married
John (Johnny) Ilasenko, who preceded her in death, August 11, 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Glen and Michael McNaughton; two sisters, Gladys S. Allen and Elizabeth (Betty) Castle, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; eight nephews; and seven nieces.
Fred W. Akers
Fred W. Akers, age 80, of O’Brien, Fl., formerly of Dana, Ky., husband of Willa Faye Phillips Akers, passed away Monday, May 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Dowling Park, Florida.
He was born May 26, 1922, in Dana, Ky., the son of the late Francis Marion Akers and Pearlie Rose Akers. He was a tool and dye maker, and was a minister and a member of the O’Brien Christian Fellowship.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Peggy Akers Self of Lawrenceburg, Tn.; one step-daughter, Devonia Sagraves of French Lick, In.; three step-sons, Bobby McGlone of Georgetown, Ky., Billie McGlone of Olive Hill, Ky., and Arthur McGlone of Grayson, Ky.; two brothers, Everett “Bill” Akers and Earl M. Akers, both of Bardstown, Ky.; six sisters, Retta Hall of Banner, Ky., Florida Smith of Bella Vista, Ca., Iness Stiltner of Eastern, Ky., Jean Hall of Hillsboro, Ky., Mattie “Pat” Greenwell of St. Petersburg, Fl., and Nora Burnette of Hillview, Ky., 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Fred W. Akers will be conducted Friday, May 31, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergyman, Dennis Kidd, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Akers Cemetery, Dana, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Ruby Grace Bradley

Claudia Odell Davenport
Claudia Odell Davenport, age 80, of Van Lear, Ky., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the Highland Regional Medical Center at Prestonsburg, Ky., after an extended illness.
She was born September 25, 1921, at Henry, Va., a daughter of the late John Ruben and Pearl (Hopkins) Lovell.
She was married
to Alvin Eugene Davenport Sr., who survives.
Other survivors include four sons and one daughter, Alvin Eugene Davenport Jr., of Prestonsburg, Ky., Calvin Ashley Davenport of Nicholasville, Ky., Samuel John Boggs of Hillsville, Va, Delburn Ray Boggs of Radford, Va., and Sharon Pearl Huffman of Pikeville, Ky.; two brothers, J.R. Lovell of Huntsville, Ala., and Troy Lovell of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Lucille Vaughn of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 30, 2002, at 11 a.m., from the Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Rev. Bobby Joe Spencer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Ivel, Ky., under the direction of Burke Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home, after 6 p.m., Wednesday.
Active pallbearers are: Delburn Boggs, Sam Boggs, Alvin Davenport, Calvin Davenport, Ron Huffman, and Steven Boggs.
Dan Jack Combs
Dan Jack Combs, 77, of Stanville, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, following an extended illness.
Born in Floyd County, Ky., on August 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Hettie Gilliam and Albert Ghent Combs. He was an attorney. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pikeville; Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals; and Kentucky Supreme Court Justice; a member of Thomas C. Cecil F&AM Lodge No. 375; and a Navy veteran of WW II.
Survivors include two sons, Alfred Ghent Combs, Dan Jack Combs II, both of Stanville, Ky.; two daughters, Connie May Combs of Lexington, Ky., and Dana Jean Combs Batten of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Sam Paul Combs of Marion, North Carolina; two sisters, Edith May Stanley of Betsy Layne, Ky., Laurel Katherine Damron of Sumter, South Carolina; and four grandchildren, Justin Leland Barden, Bruce Clark Batten II, Noah Brandon Batten and Jared Dalton Smith.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Combs.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the First Christian Church of Pikeville, with Dr. Mickey Anders officiating.
Burial was in the Combs Cemetery, Pikeville, under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.

Jimmy Lee Akers
Jimmy Lee Akers, age 56, of Banner, Ky., passed away Monday, May 27, 2002, at his residence.
He was born September 26, 1945, in Dana, Ky., the son of Johnny Akers of Dana, Ky., and the late Marge Stanridge Akers. He was a former coal miner, and Vietnam War Army veteran.
In addition to his father, he is survived by one son, James Akers of Banner, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Angela; one daughter, Jenita Boyd of Martin, Ky.; son-in-law, Terry; five brothers, J.D. Akers of Michigan, Alvin Akers, Darrell Akers and Randy Akers, all of Dana, Ky., and Mack Akers of Martin, Ky.; one sister, Cheryl Arms of Dana, Ky.; five grandchildren, Madison, Devon, Paige, Kristian and Angel; and a special friend, Jodie Goble.
Funeral services for Jimmy Lee Akers will be conducted Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at 10 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Danny Connor officiating.
Burial will follow in the Akers Cemetery, Dana, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Charles “Togo” Thomas Harris
Charles “Togo” Thomas Harris, age 62, of Allen, Ky., passed away Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky.
He was the son of the late David Harris, and Georgia Leslie Harris. He was a former state highway department employee.
Survivors include one son, Charles Todd (Kimberly Dawn) Harris of Harold, Ky.; one daughter, Carrie Ann (David) Agaras of Dayton, Ohio; three special cousins, Tina (Howard) Keathley and Ebbie Keathley, both of Allen, Ky., and Linda Caldwell of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one sister, Mary Ann (Stewart) Unanagst of Naples, Fl.; three grandchildren, Hanna Lynn Harris, Grayson Todd Harris and Lola Diane Agaras.
Memorial services for Charles Harris will be announced at a later date, Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., caring for those arrangements.
