Malque Earmest Hayes
Malque Earmest Hayes, age 85, of Langley, Ky., husband of Dorothy Atherton Smith Hayes, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at the Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Paintsville, Ky.
He was born February 13, 1917, in Maytown, Ky., the son of the late John Prock Hayes and Daisy Justice Hayes. He was a retired coal miner for Inland Steel; a 50-year member of John W. Hall Masonic Lodge, having served as master and treasurer; a volunteer for the AARP Tax Program and was affiliated with the Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronald M. Hayes of Winchester, Ky.; one daughter, Sandra Hayes Sheffield of Betsy Layne, Ky.; one brother, Earrit M. Hayes of Martin, Ky.; two grandchildren, Heather Hayes Amistadi of Durham, N.C., Ellisa O’Bryan of Langley, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Cassandra O’Bryan and Dorothy O’Bryan.
He was preceded in death by one half brother, Virgil “Arb” Hayes.
Funeral services for Mr. Hayes will be conducted Friday, April 26, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was from 5 p.m., till 10 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with Masonic services held at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers: Earl Edward Webb, Dr. Robert Marshall, Bill Cooley, Delano May, Buddy Smith, Clarence Hayes, John Hall Jr., and C.C. Sheffield.

Peggy Dawn Whitt
Peggy Dawn Whitt, age 42, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, following a sudden illness.
Born on March 22, 1960, in Paintsville, Ky., she was the daughter of James Monroe Castle and the late Patricia Marie Gullett Castle.
Survivors include her husband, Jeffery Whitt; three daughters, Patricia Marie Hatfield of Prestonsburg, Ky., Jennifer Raelynn Whitt of Martin, Ky.; and Melissa Dawn Castle of Paducah, Ky.; one sister, Lisa Marie Castle Griffith of Martin, Ky.; three brothers, Ronald Dean Castle of Paintsville, Ky., James Monroe Castle and Jerry Andrew Castle, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two grandchildren, Sarah Dawn Castle and Christopher Morgan Castle. She was a homemaker, and attended the Third Avenue Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral will be on Sunday, April 28, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Manford Fannin officiating.
Burial will be in the Castle Cemetery at Brown Fork in Paintsville, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the Third Avenue Freewill Baptist Church after 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2002.
Pallbearers: Tommy Sparks, Oliver Reynolds, Jay Castle, Herbie Griffith, Eric Combs and Steve Whitt.

Effie Howard
Effie Howard, age 95, of Garrett, Ky., widow of Kelly Howard, passed away, Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at the Claylor-Nickel Regional Center, Bluffton, Indiana.
She was born August 13, 1906, in Floyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late Teck Reed and Elizabeth Moore Reed. She was a homemaker, a member of the United Baptist Church, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include two daughters, Alberta Bolding of Warren, In., and Glenna Caudill of Marion, Oh.; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Kelly, and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Harry Howard, Garry Howard and Brison Howard.
Funeral services for Effie Howard will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergymen, Sterling Bolen and Jerry Manns, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Howard Cemetery, Garrett, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Wilda Stout
Wilda Stout of Martin, Ky., died Monday, April 22, 2002, following a sudden illness.
Born on September 17, 1927, in Weeksbury, Ky., she was the daughter of the late J.O. and Jenny Mayo Arrington.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Stout; one son, James Stout and wife, Carolyn, of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one daughter, Virginia Turner and husband, Ronald, of Allen, Ky.; one sister, Georgia Howard of Florence, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Steffanie Gillstrap, John Stout, and Lesley Stout.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Jacqueline Justice.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Order of Eastern Star (Hadassah 575), and a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2002, at 2 p.m., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Gary Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, of Ivel, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Adrian Tuttle
Adrian E. Tuttle, 72, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was a carpenter with Union Local 1089, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church in Kendallville.
He was born on May 28, 1929, to Levi and Elzena Tuttle. He married Evelyn L. Jarrett Conrad in Ligonier on October 8, 1966. She survies.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lora and Tom Householder of Ocala, Fla.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark Tuttle of Fort Wayne, Denzil and Karen Tuttle of McCordsville and David and Jeannett Tuttle of Nikiski, Alaska; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debra and Bruce Williams of Cromwell; two step-sons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Donald Conrad of Carlisle, and Wayne and Peggy Conrad of Ligonier; a half brother, Aaron Tuttle of eastern Kentucky; two sisters, Kathleen Gibson of Stroh, and Mary Patrick of LaGrange; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Bobby Conrad; two brothers, Ray and Forrest Tuttle; and a half sister, Cordie Wicker.
Services were held Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church. Elders Russell Hicks, Larry Dixon and Morris Wicker officiated.

Ruby Mitchell McKee
Ruby Mitchell McKee, age 51, of Teaberry, Ky., passed away Friday, April 19, 2002, at her residence, in Teaberry, Ky.
She was born November 5, 1951, in Prestonsburg, Ky., the daughter of Esta Hamilton Mitchell of Teaberry, Ky., and the late Christopher Columbus Mitchell. She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother; one daughter, Tina Sparks of Flint, Mi.; one son, Mike Sparks of Tennessee; a niece, Anna Louise Hayton of Crossville, Tn.; two brothers, Donnie Ray Mitchell and Harold Dean Mitchell, both of Teaberry, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ruby Mitchell McKee were conducted Monday, April 22, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Jason Mitchell, Harold Dean Mitchell, Donnie Mitchell, Donnie Mitchell Jr., Alexander Hall, Racey Case, Delbert Thompson, and Earl Stanley.

Lorraine Williams Baldridge
Lorraine Williams Baldridge, 80, of East Court St., Prestonsburg, Ky., died Satur-day, April 20, 2002, at the Highlands Re-gional Medical Cen-ter.
Born on March 15, 1922, in Johnson County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Dewey Williams and Numa Hitchcock Williams. She was a homemaker and attended the First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Franklin Baldridge Sr. (died 4-11-1986).
Survivors include one son, Kermit E. Baldridge Jr. of Paintsville, Ky.; two daughters, Patricia Carolene (Pat) Allen and Judith Ann (Judy) Rowe, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one sister, Loretta Conley of Ashland, Ky.; one brother, Paul Preston Williams of Ashland, Ky.; one half-brother, Charles Dewey Williams of Paintsville, Ky.; five grandchildren, four great-granddaughters and one step-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Dewey Baldridge.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 22, 2002, at 2 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Interment was in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky.
Pallbearers: Eddie Bradley, Kermit Baldridge III, Paul Michael Baldridge, Jim Hobbs, Randy Bradley, and William Kendrick.

Minnie E. Todd
Minnie E. Todd, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002, at the age of 88.
She was born in Prestonsburg, Ky., and has lived in the Akron-Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, area for 62 years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lawrence H. Todd, in 1982. Mrs. Todd was a graduate of Masonic Home in Louisville, Ky., where she received the Hiram Bassett award for academic excellence. She was retired from the BF Goodman Co., and was a member of the local chapter of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence H. Todd and Louise of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael L. (Kimberly) Todd, Patricia (Gray) Sheppard, Jeffrey Todd, and Catherine (James) Meyers. There are four great-grandchildren, Lara, Aryn, Katie, and Shane, all of whom live in the Marietta, Ga., area.
A memorial service was held Monday, April 22, at 3 p.m., at the Adams Mason Memorial Chapel, 791 E. Market St., Akron, with Rev. G. Rod Taylor officiating.
At Mrs. Todd’s request, no flowers should be sent.
Adams Mason Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
