Clara L. Basham, 66, of Clarksville, Indiana, formerly of Toler Creek, Harold Ky., died Friday, March 29, 2002, following an extended illness.
Born on November 4, 1935, in Harold, Ky., she was the daughter of Ida Rogers Akers of Harold, Ky., and the late Herbert Akers. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two brothers, Stevie Akers of Harold, Ky., Leslie F. Akers of Elizabeth, Indiana; three sisters, Mary Bautista of Harold, Ky., Darlene Jones of Carterville, Georgia, and Lorraine Porter of Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Akers; and one sister, Ida Jean Lynch.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Upper Toler Church of Christ at Harold, Ky., with Tommy Bush officiating.
Burial was in the Akers Family Cemetery, Toler Creek, Harold, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home on Saturday, and at the church on Monday
Offie Jean Boyd
Offie Jean Boyd, age 62, of Dana, Ky., wife of the late Jonathan Boyd, passed away Friday, March 29, 2002, in the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky.
She was born April 7, 1939, a daughter of the late Med M. and Lizzie Smiley Akers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Salem Regular Baptist Church, Dana.
Survivors include one son, John Isreal Boyd of Dana, and one sister, Josephine Boyd of Dana.
Funeral services for Offie Jean Boyd were conducted Monday, April 1, at 11 a.m., in the Little Salem Regular Baptist Church, at Dana, with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial followed in the Akers Cemetery, at Dana, with the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., caring for those arrangements.
Pallbearers: Ricky Boyd, Shawn Boyd, Rudy Boyd, Michael Boyd, Sonny Boyd, William D. Boyd, Russell Kidd, Dennis R. Akers, and Gary Allen.
Phillip Dean Damron
Phillip Dean Damron, 54, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Thurs-day, March 28, 2002, at his residence.
Born on July 22, 1947, in Pikeville, Ky., he was the son of the late Atha Damron and Ola Mae Hall Damron. He was an attorney at law at Phillip Damron Law Office on College Lane, Prestonsburg, Ky. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Prestons-burg, Ky., a member of Zebulon Lodge No. 273, F&AM, a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple, Lexington, Ky., and served in the Army Reserves.
He is survived by his wife, Marthan A. Damron; one son, Arron A. Damron of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Emily Auxier Damron of Lexington, Ky., and Margaret Ray Damron of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two brothers, Jeff Damron of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Steve Damron of Weeksbury, Ky.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Damron.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Rev. Wayne Sayre officiating.
Interment was in the Archer Family Cemetery, Prestons burg, Ky., under direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Buril Johnson
Buril Johnson, 77, of Weeksbury, Ky., died Saturday, March 30, 2002.
Born on December 19, 1924, in Knott County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Epp Little and Dona Hall Little. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church at Kite, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Diamond Johnson.
Survivors include one son, Denward and Patricia Johnson of Wise, Virginia; three brothers, Denward Little of Illinois, Gilbert Little and Virgil Little, both of Weeksbury, Ky.; one sister, Norma Jean Cook of Gallatin, Tennessee; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Little, and one sister, Hazel Hall.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church, Melvin, Ky., with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Epp Little Cemetery, Weeksbury, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church.
James Stephen Ison
James Stephen Ison, age 58, of Prestonsburg, Ky., husband of Brenda Carol Coleman Ison, passed away Friday, March 29, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky.
He was born August 17, 1943, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Helen Price Ison and the late John C. Ison. He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Price Ison of Martin, Ky.; his wife, Brenda Carol Coleman Ison, of Prestonsburg, Ky.; and his sister, Carolyn Stout, also of Prestonsburg, Ky.
Funeral services for James Stephen Ison were conducted on Monday, April 1 2002, at the Community United Methodist Church at Prestonsburg, Ky., with Steve Pescosolido officiating.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: James Coleman, Bob Springer, Ronnie Slone, Charles “Crush” Dingus, Tim Marshall, Gary Collins, Johnny Ison and Brad Damron.
Myrtie Hill Davis
Myrtie Hill Davis, 92, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Friday, March 29, 2002, at her residence.
Born December 4, 1909, on Abbott Creek, (Floyd County), Ky., she was the daughter of the late Edward P. Hill and Adda Lou Ellen Davis. She was former owner of The Market Place, Prestonsburg, Ky., and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Davis Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane D. Howard of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one son, Ralph B. Davis Jr., of Prestonsburg, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ray Edward Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Rev. George Love officiating.
Interment will be at Mayo Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Visitation is 11 a.m., until service, at the church.

Jay D. Bond Sr.
A memorial service for Jay D. Bond Sr., (93), was held in the Powell Chapel at First Baptist Church, DeLand, Fla., on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Mulkey officiating. Mr. Bond died in the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, on February 23, 2002.
He was born in Virgie, Ky., in Pike County, on April 24, 1908. He grew up in Ashland, Ky., attended Georgetown College, the University of Ky., where he earned his A.B. and Law Degrees, and the Harvard University School of Business Administration.
He served in World War II, first as a civilian with the Army Signal Corps in Dayton, Ohio, then as a Procurement Officer in the Bureau of Aeronautics in Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas. He served with the Navy’s office of the General Counsel in New York City before joining the legal staff of the F.C.C. in Washington, in July, 1946.
Mr. Bond was graduated from the Armed Service’s Industrial College in 1944. He was a member of the Bars of Kentucky and Ohio and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. His professional activities included: officer and committee positions in the American Bar Association and its Section of Administrative Law, the Federal Bar Association, the President’s Conference on Administrative Procedures, the Federal Trial Examiner’s Conference, and the Judicial Conference of the District of Columbia Circuit. He was the lead author of the Administrative Procedures Act.
When Mr. Bond retired in 1972, he came to DeLand and taught Business Law at Stetson University.
He was an avid tennis and bridge player. He enjoyed traveling, and explored all 50 states with his family, much of the time in a fold-up camper.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of DeLand, NARFE, and a Director of the Stetson Business School Foundation.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jennie, sons Jay D. Bond Jr., an attorney in Daytona Beach, and Charles F. Bond, an attorney in Berkeley, California.
Grandchildren include: Laura Walker of Daytona Beach, a Trust Officer with Regions Bank; Adriene Bond, of New Smyrna Beach, with the Head Start Program; Heather Bond Vargas, of Port Orange, an attorney with Cobb, Cole, and Bell, and Annie Bond Berkeley, and great-grandchild, Diego Vargas of Port Orange.
