Robert Meade Jr.
Robert Meade Jr., 58, of Ivel, Ky., died Monday, March 11, 2002, following an extended illness.
Born on January 2, 1944, at Printer, Ky., he was the son of the late Robert Meade Sr., and Bertha Alice Hamilton Meade. He was a retired factory worker, and a member of the Church of Christ, at Printer.
He is survived by his wife, Fredia McKinney Meade.
Other survivors include two sons, Howard Vance Meade of Richmond, Ky., and Kenneth Ray Meade of Martin, Ky.; two brothers, James Madison Meade and Phillip Isaac Meade, both of Printer, Ky.; eight sisters, Josephine Yates of Printer, Ky., Delsie Adams of Viper, Ky., Wanda Riley of Harold, Ky., Irene Conn of Martin, Ky., Shirley McKinney, and Ethel Meade, both of Printer, Ky., Gladys McKinney of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Pauline Conn of Morgan County, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Westley Meade, George Meade, and Henry Meade; and one sister, Viola Meade.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 12 noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Jack Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the Jeff Hunter Cemetery, Printer, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Blanche E. Dingus
Blanche E. Dingus, age 84, of Martin, Ky., passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was born July 4, 1917, in Martin, Ky., the daughter of the late William “Bill” Dingus and Flora Reynolds Dingus. Mrs. Dingus was a retired administrator for the Floyd County School System, a physical therapist in the U.S. Army, WWII, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, director of the Genealogical Library of the Church, and a member of the Floyd County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include one brother, Charles Phillip Dingus of Martin, Ky.; three sisters-in-law, Kitty Dingus, Rose Dingus, and Hazel Robinson, all of Martin, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Chester Arthur Dingus, Lewis Parker Dingus, Daniel Perkins Dingus, Reynolds Dingus, and Furman Dingus; and two sisters, Rhoda Crawford and Girdell Breeding.
Funeral services for Blanche E. Dingus will be conducted Saturday, March 9, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the elders of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dingus Family Cemetery, Martin, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.

Vertner Hall Martin
Vertner Hall Martin, age 87, of Mousie, Ky., widow of Joel Martin Jr., passed away, Thursday, February 28, 2002, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
She was born December 19, 1914, in Dema, Ky., the daughter of the late William Jennings “W.J.” Hall, and Della Martin Hall.
Survivors include one son, Gary Lee (Barbara Sue) Martin of Mousie, Ky.; one sister, Eula Mae Jones of Dema, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jason Martin, Chris Martin, and Andrea Hall; and five great-grandchildren, Logan Blake Martin, Ethan Caleb Martin, Mikka Cutting, Whitney Hall and Isaiah Hall.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Hall Martin and Hermie Hall Martin.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 3, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Whitt Martin Cemetery, Dema, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Jason Martin, Chris Martin, Davie Triplett, Brennon Triplett, William K. Jones, Glen W. Jones, Thomas A. Jones, Bobby Jacobs, Johnny Gayheart, and Ricky Triplett.

Ella Ann Parker Scott
Ella Ann Parker Scott, age 60, of Prestonsburg, Ky., wife of Richard Scott, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky.
She was born July 22, 1941, in Wayland, Ky., the daughter of the late Perry Parker and Geneva Ratliff Parker. Mrs. Scott was a clerk at Scotts Store, and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Elaine Wells of Estill, Ky.; one son, Bryan Scott of Prestonsburg, Ky.; five brothers, Bill Tom Parker of Auburn, In., Wendell Parker of Kendallville, In., David Parker of Waterloo, In., Marlin Ronald Parker of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Austin Perry Parker of Waterloo, In.; three sisters, Mary Jacqueline Caudill of Wayland, Ky., Sara Susan Moore of Kendalville, In., and Sally Gibson of Waterloo, In.; two grandchildren, Ricky John Wells of Wayland, Ky., and Victoria Elizabeth Turner of Langley, Ky.; and her niece, Tammy L. Burchett, of Prestons-burg, Ky.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sondra Keown and Oma Parker.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 8, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergyman, Barkley Moore, officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Highlands Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Mark Caudill, Phillip Caudill, Jeremy Turner, Kenny Burchett, and Angus L. Caudill.

Rhoda Stone
Rhoda Stone, 89, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, died at 11:15 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2002, in his residence.
Born April 16, 1912, in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of Joe and Alice (Lynch) Stone. He was a member of Laborer’s Local Union No. 1445, Catlettsburg, Ky., and a World War II veteran. He loved hunting, camping and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Nora B. (Collins) Stone, daughter Georgia (Jack) Scaggs of Range; grandson, Jeffery D. (Audrey) Scaggs of Redding, Ca.; granddaughters, Luana (Tim) Barker of Mount Sterling, Tami (Bob) Snider of Pickerington and Jacque (Tommy) Hutslar of London; seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Jessica, and Heather Barker, Courteney and Troy Snider, and Allen Michael and Taylor Hutslar; sister, Leah Belle Rice of Betsy Layne, Ky.; brother, William (Betty Mae) Stone of Lexington, Ky., and sister-in-law, Etherine Stone of Cadiz, Ky.; numerous nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Glen Estepp and Alvin Toops of Range.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John L. and Evan Stone, and sisters, Lizzie Robison and Georgia Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, in the Eberle Funeral Home, London, Ohio, with Pastor Gordon Ell officiating.
Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Range Township.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions in his memory to Loving Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

John Fredrick Smiley
John Fredrick Smiley, 53, of Versailles and Frankfort, a civil engineer at Kenvirons in Frankfort, died Sunday, March 3, in Versailles.
Born in Prestonsburg, he was a son of Otela Spradlin Smiley of Lexington, and the late Vyron Smiley. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Engineering, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his former wife, Carolyn C. Smiley of Versailles.
Other survivors include his mother, Otela Spradlin Smiley of Lexington; two sons, Brad Smiley and Keith Smiley, both of Versailles; seven sisters, Jessica Corley of Michigan, Judith Smiley of Texas, Elizabeth Sinor of Waddy, Deborah Sewell of Utah, Veronica Taylor of Cynthiana, Martha Thompson of Lexington, Dinah Smiley of Louisville; six brothers, Ronald Smiley of Virginia, Donald Smiley of Ohio; Vyron Smiley Jr., of Lexington, James Smiley of Ohio, Wayne Smiley of Lexington, Nicholas Smiley of California, and Phillip Smiley of Texas.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Jackson Smiley and Paul Simpson Smiley.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 8, at the Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, with Rev. Joe Girdler officiating.
Interment will follow at the Rose Crest Cemetery, Versailles.
Pallbearers will be Josh Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Wayne Smiley, Vyron Smiley Jr., John Sewell, and Douglas Griffin.

Betty J. Thompson
Betty J. Thompson, age 66, of East Point, Ky., formerly of Martin, Ky., wife of Ernest Thompson, passed away, Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was born August 27, 1933, in Floyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late Johnnie Allen and Armina Conn Allen. Mrs. Thompson was a former seamstress for Chrysler Corporation.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Larry Brewer of Lexington, Ky., Jimmy Brewer of Spokane, Wa.; one daughter, Barbara Jean Hancock of Martin, Ky.; six brothers, Lonnie Allen of Stanville, Ky., John Allen of Mexico, David Allen of Minnie, Ky., Kenneth Allen of Lima, Oh., James Allen of Medford, Oregon, Herbert Salisbury of Wheelwright, Ky.; four sisters, Barbara Halbert of Lexington, Ky., Annette Miller of Detroit, Mi., Myrtle Lambert of Charleston, WV, Irene Horn of Norfolk, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Betty J. Thompson will be conducted, Thursday, March 7, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky.
Burial will follow in the Salisbury-Allen Cemetery, Printer, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Dockie B. Pigman
Dockie B. Pigman, age 85, of Prestonsburg, Ky., passed away Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Highland Regional Medical Center, after an illness of two years.
She was born November 12, 1916, at Dwale, Ky., a daughter of the late Jeff and Ada (Nelson) Prater. She was married to Hargis Pigman who preceded her in death. She was a member of the New Hope United Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons and four daughters, William Pigman, Johnny Pigman, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., Clarence Pigman of Warsaw, Ind.; Ora Lee Pigman, Audrey Pigman, and Ethel Pigman, all of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Ada Church of Hendersonville, N.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 7, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Bro. Don Neeley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Reynolds Cemetery at Prestonsburg, Ky.
All arrangements are under the direction of Burke Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
