Blanch Morgan Vaught
Blanch M. Vaught died Sunday, August 26, 2001.
A native of Prestonsburg, Ky., she had been a longtime Peninsula resident. She was a daughter of the late Bill and Eunice Morgan of Abbott.
Survivors include two daughters, Dale Boettner of Newport News, and Bonita Tovey and her husband, Paul, of Suffolk; her son, Rick Dotson and his wife, Linda, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Vivian Childers of North Carolina; three brothers, Ross Morgan of Ohio, John Morgan of Kansas and Jim Morgan of Ky.; and six grandchildren, Melissa Boettner, Eric, David, and Joseph Dotson, and Allison and Amanda Tovey.
Visitation was Wednesday, August 29, at Peninsula Funeral Home.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 30, in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Jimmy “Jim Doc” Ratliff
Jimmy “Jim Doc” Ratliff, age 72, of Langley, Ky., husband of the late Ruby Jewell Ratliff, passed away Friday, September 7, 2001, in the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
He was born August 1, 1929, in Langley, Ky., the son of the late Doc Allen Ratliff and Mary Ann Lafferty Ratliff. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers Association of America, Local No. 9845, for 56 years.
Survivors include three sons, Greg Ratliff and Brian Ratliff, both of Langley, Ky., Charlie Ratliff of Shelbiana, Ky.; three daughters, Reba Griffith of Prestonsburg, Ky., Reka Wood and Karen Akers, both of Langley, Ky.; two brothers, Oliver Ratliff of Redland, Ca., Edgel Ratliff of Ypsilanti, Mi.; six sisters, Goldie Francis of Indian Lake, Oh., Myrtle Ratliff and Bertha Ratliff, both of Minnie, Ky., Lula Bradley and Sydney Ratliff, both of Drift, Ky., Shirley Amburgey of Langley, Ky., nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jimmy “Jim Doc” Ratliff were conducted Monday, September 10, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the Elders Jerry Manns and Earl Slone officiating.
Burial followed in the Ratliff Cemetery, Wilson Creek, Langley, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: Grey Ratliff, Charlie Ratliff, Brian Ratliff, Charles Allen Jr., Mickey Joe Ratliff, Jimmy Doc Ratliff, Shannon Griffith, Jason Griffith, Ray Woods Jr., Bobby Akers and Ray Wood.
Honorary: Oliver Ratliff, Edgel Ratliff, Olin Amburgey, Gene Amburgey, Alonzo Jones, David Jones, Rondall Wicker, Wayne Ratliff, Ray Slone, Holbert Ray Tuttle, and all nephews.

Alta “Granny” Parsons
Alta “Granny” Parsons, age 84, of New London, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, September 9, 2001, at her home, after a short illness.
Born June 5, 1917, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Lilburn and Fay (Hattfield) Hall. She moved to New London in 1951 from Floyd County, Ky. She was a twenty-five year employee of the former C.E. Ward Co., of New London, where she was an embroidery operator. She was a member of the Fitchville Church of Christ.
She and her husband owned and operated a small grocery store in New London for 10 years. She made beautiful handmade quilts and was a great cook.
She is survived by five daughters and five sons-in-law, Juanita and Donald Akers of Grethel, Ky., Wanda and Dale Stewart, Ezella and Lawrence Hale, and Virginia Fay and Edgar Carroll, all of New London, Regina and Henry Kidd of Bryan, Ohio; one brother, Lilburn Hall Jr. of Greencastle, Ind.; and six sisters, Tracy Jackson, Capitola Hamilton, Carley Bedford, Norma Jean Smith and Sandra Anderson, all of Pekin, Indiana, and Charlen Hampton of Brandon, Mississippi; a daughter-in-law, Judy Parsons of New London; 24 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Parsons Sr., in 1964; an infant daughter, Edith Parsons in 1934; a son, Wilburn Parsons Jr., in 1999; a granddaughter, Daphne Hamilton; a great-grandson, Keith Hamilton; a great-great-grandson, Tyler Gardner; a brother, Willie Hall; and two sisters, Dixie Hunter and Mattie Hunter.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 12, 2001, 11 a.m., at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Ky., with Pastor Hubert Harmon, of the Harold Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in the Parsons Family Cemetery in Honaker, Ky.
Visitation is at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was held at Eastman Funeral Home, New London, Ohio, on Monday.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Fitchville Church of Christ, or Hospice of North Central, Ohio, 1605 Ashland County Rd. 1095, Ashland, Ohio 44805.

Timothy Ryan Akers
Timothy Ryan Akers, age 26, of Grethel, Ky., passed away Thursday, September 6, 2001, in Rutledge, Tennessee.
He was born June 22, 1975, in Prestonsburg, Ky., the son of Brenda F. Akers and the late Anthony Akers. He was a general laborer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kathy Lynn Gillespie Akers.
Other survivors include one son, Jacob Anthony Akers; one daughter, Chyna Lynn Akers, all three of Morristown, Tn.; one brother, Kermit Lee Akers; three nephews, Justyn, Cody, and Johnny Akers, all of Teaberry; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2001, at the Samaria Regular Baptist Church, Teaberry, Ky., with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial followed in the Akers Cemetery, Grethel, Ky., under the care of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the church.
Pallbearers: Bradley Akers, Brent Bentley, Jason Blazer, Jeremy Blazer, Dougie Bentley, Kelly Akers, Darrin Reynolds, Nick Music, and Jason Cecil.

Charles Robert (Bob) Music
Charles Robert (Bob) Music, 71, of Logan, W.Va., formerly of Dehue, died Saturday, September 8, 2001, at CAMC Memorial.
Born May 1, 1930, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of the late George and Martha Music. He was a member of the Verdunville Church of God, and assisted in the shut-in dinners at the church. He was a former coal miner and janitor at the Logan Courthouse and Logan East Junior High School.
Survivors include one half-sister, Bonnie Music of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one half-brother, Gordon Music of Prestonsburg, Ky.; six nieces, Brenda (Billy) Sipple of Logan, with whom he made his home; Donna (Porter) Burress of Verdunville, Lillian (Porter) Smith of Chapmanville, Teresa (Robby) Hensley of Charleston, Sharon (Tom) Corka of Manchester, Mi., Linda Music of Newport News, Va.; two nephews, Harold (Lisa) Porter of McConnell and Charles (Anna) Music of Point Pleasant, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rema (Music) Porter; one brother, Thomas Music; two half-brothers, Arnold and Jerry Music.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at the James Funeral Home, Aracoma, with Rev. Michael Hartwell and Rev. Larry Hicks officiating.
Graveside services and burial followed in the Highland Memory Gardens.

Ronald Craig Stewart
Ronald Craig Stewart, 24, of Hi Hat, died Friday, November 24, 2000, in McDowell, following a four-wheeler accident.
Born on November 19, 1976, in McDowell, he was the son of Ronald and Brenda Casebolt Stewart, of Hi Hat. He was a coal miner for Starlight Coal, at Allen, and was a graduate of South Floyd High School.
Survivors other than his parents include a sister, Tracie Renee Stewart of Hi Hat; and his maternal grandmother, Della Casebolt of Mousie.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 17, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Don Fraley Jr. and Rodney Mosley officiating.
Burial was in the Newman Cemetery, Hi Hat, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Aaron Hamilton
Aaron Hamilton, 62, of Grethel, died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville, following an extended illness.
Born on November 19, 1938, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Chester Hamilton and Opal Johnson Hamilton. He was a disabled coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Mae Tackett Hamilton.
Survivors include three daughters, Arlene Bentley of Frenchburg, Michelle Hamilton, and Abigail Wellman, both of Grethel; four brothers, Ishmuel Hamilton, and Randall Hamilton, both of Columbus, Ohio, Daniel Hamilton of Teaberry, Amos Hamilton of Jonesville, Michigan; three sisters, Barbara Keathley of Elyria, Ohio, Helen Hamilton of Albion, Michigan, Joyce Coleman of Grethel; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 28, at noon at the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church at Grethel, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial were in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Blanche Opal Hall
Blanche Opal Hall, 77, of Langley, died Sunday, November 26, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on October 15, 1923, in McDowell, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Elizabeth Anderson Osborne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hall.
Survivors include six sons, Jimmy Marshall and Carlos Marshall, both of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Harlos Marshall and Fred Marshall, both of Langley, Clyde Douglas Marshall of Lexington, Bobby McGuffy of Scottsville; four daughters, Rebecca Hall of Martin, Ada Weaver of Cement City, Michigan, Sue Spangler of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Cindia Hall of Langley; three brothers, Bill Osborne of Langley, Doug Osborne of Hunter, Solomon Osborne of Pike County; three sisters, Katherine Hall of Martin, Gladys Adkins of Wilson Creek, Corrine Marshall of Washington State; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 29, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Randolph Crisp officiating.
Burial will be in the Hagans Cemetery, Langley, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
