Penny J. Perkins, 55, of 331 Sixth Avenue, Galion, Ohio, died Monday, January 21, 2002, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, after a brief illness.
Born February 28, 1946, in Mouthcard, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Clifford Justice and Edith (Tripplet) Justice. She attended Faith Community Fellowship Church in Ontario, Ohio. She was a waitress and cook at various restaurants, and enjoyed traveling throughout the country.
Survivors include three daughters, Candy Drescher of Lindenhurst, N.Y., Angela and Johnny Holbrook of Morehead, KY, Kelly and Neil Pfleiderer, of Galion, Ohio; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and John Schade of Galion, Ohio, Alveda and Jo Riffe of Mansfield, Ohio, Anita and Dick Luscalett of Galion, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sherry Justice of Galion, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Justice.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, Galion, Ohio, with Pastor Dennis McMillen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Galion, Ohio.
Timothy Duane Hoover
Timothy Duane Hoover, age 42, of Hippo, Ky., son of Maudie Ratliff Hoover, of Hippo, Ky., and the late George Hoover, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at his residence, in Hippo, Ky.
He was born February 12, 1959, in McDowell, Ky.
Survivors include three brothers, David Gordon Hoover and Don Williams Hoover, both of Hippo, Ky., and James Reginald Hoover of Paintsville, Ky.; three sisters, Phyllis Ann Wilks of Hippo, Ky., Margaret Hoover and Wanda Caldwell, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.
Funeral services for Timothy Duane Hoover, were conducted Monday, January 21, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Clergyman Joe Ratliff officiating.
Burial followed in the Miners Cemetery, Eastern, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Adam Caldwell, Jordan Caldwell, Kenny Caldwell, Shawn Wilks, Seth Hall, and Dustin Hoover.
Oliver Setser
Oliver Setser, age 74, of Auxier, Ky., passed away Saturday, January 19, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky., after an extended illness.
He was born March 10, 1927, in Floyd County, Ky., a son of the late James and Erma Aldridge Setser. He was a general laborer. He was a World War II Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Baldridge Setser.
Other survivors include two sons, Oliver Ray Setser of Little Paint, Ky., Kenneth Michael Setser of Auxier, Ky.; three daughters, Barbara Burchett of Auxier, Ky., Patricia Schroeder of Deshler, Ohio, Donna Crego of McComb, Ohio; five brothers, Marvin Setser of Clintwood, Va., Darvin Setser of Warsaw, Ind., Franklin Setser of Germantown, Oh., Calvin Setser of Auxier, Ky., Jimmy Setser of Burbon, Ind.; two sisters, Lula Faye Silveus of Clewiston, Fla. and Alma Gay Drudge of Mentone, Ind.; and 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Lee Setser; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at 1 p.m., from the Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Clifford Austin officiating.
Burial was in the Auxier Relocation Cemetery at Auxier, Ky., under the direction of Burke Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Lewis
Elizabeth Lewis, 75, of Staffordsville, Ky., died Friday, January 18, 2002, following an extended illness.
Born on June 5, 1926, in Johnson County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Jim and Laura Crum Mollett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Daniels Creek Fellowship Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Lewis.
Other survivors include two sons, Danny Kerr of Prestonsburg, Ky., Michael Wayne Lewis of Seiverville, Tenn.; two daughters, Wonell Blair of Hager Hill, Ky. and Linda Chaffins of Warfield, Ky.; seven brothers, Eugene Wells of Xenia, Ohio, Paul Mollett of Wabash, Indiana, Dennis Mollett of Boonscamp, Ky., Billy Mollett of Sitka, Ky., Larry Mollett of Lowmansville, Ky., Jimmy Lee Mollett of Mansfield, Oh., James Mollett of Auxier, Ky.; six sisters, Mary Jane Ward of Williamsport, Ky., Frances Wilson of Paintsville, Ky., Shearlen Meek of Boonscamp, Ky., Diana Staniford of Williamsport, Ky., Betty Tackett of River, Ky., Rita Hall of Inez, Ky.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Mullins; one sister, Cloetta Penix, and one grandson.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 21, 2002, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Ronnie Spriggs, Larry Blair and Doug Lewis officiating.
Burial was in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was the funeral home.
Robert Henry Hughes
Robert Henry Hughes, 89, of North Central Avenue, Pres-tonsburg, died Sun-day morning, Janu-ary 20, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hughes was born March 8, 1912, in Williamson, West Virginia, the son of Henry Edward Hughes and Nannie Hamilton Hughes, and moved as a child to Prestonsburg, where he resided for the many years of his life. At the time of his death, he resided in the same home on Central Avenue in which he had lived since 1931.
His life was marked by partnerships of long duration. He was married
for 54 years to his beloved wife, Shirley Cole Hughes, who predeceased him in 1986.
In 1948, he began another life-long partnership with Orville Cooley, with whom Mr. Hughes owned and operated the Playhouse, the poolroom at the end of Court Street, famous for its “breadburgers, ” until 1980.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Henry Edward and Cora Hughes of Lexington; a grandson, Robert Patrick Lessard of Marysville, Washington; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Snow Hughes and Anna Cole Hughes, both of Lexington; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Faye Hughes of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Dr. Brenda Hughes of Hazard; two nephews, Michael Fannin of Prestonsburg, and Dr. Bill Tom Fannin of Pikeville; a niece, Nina Underwood of Lexington; and a very special friend and caregiver, Helen Slone of Floyd County. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Anne Hughes Lessard.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Prestons-burg.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Avanell Shepherd Collins
Avanell Shepherd Collins, age 80, of Hueysville, Ky., wife of the late Freddie Collins, passed away Friday, January 18, 2002, in the Knott County Nursing Home, Hindman, Ky.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Hueysville, Ky., the daughter of the late Lummie Sexton and Lurana Miller Sexton. She was a member of the Upper Quicksand Free Pentecostal Church, Hueysville, Ky.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Turner of Pensacola, Fl., and Steve Shepherd of Helmer, In.; three daughters, Marlene Conley of Leo, In., and Bernice Bunn of Wolcottville, In., and Viccene Chaffins of Hueysville, Ky.; two brothers, Velman Sexton and Loyal Sexton both of Lima, Ohio; one sister, Ellen Shepherd of Hueysville, Ky., 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ken Shepherd; two daughters, Connie Leader and Bonnie Elkins.
Funeral services for Avanell Shepherd Collins were conducted Monday, January 21, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Clergyman Bill Tussey Jr., officiating.
Burial followed in the Shepherd Cemetery, Hueysville, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Troy Hackworth
Troy Hackworth, 81, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born September 15, 1920, in West Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of the late Charlie Hackworth and Ollie Stephens Hackworth. He was a former meter mechanic for Columbia Gas Company; a member of Ky. Farm Bureau; a charter, member of the Floyd County Farm Bureau; a former President of Floyd County, Farm Bureau for 31 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the army as a military policeman, and was a volunteer for Clark Elementary P.T.A.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Hubbard Hackworth.
Survivors include four sons, Bill A. Hackworth of Prestonsburg, James Troy Hackworth of Houston, Texas, Charle W. Hackworth of London, West Virginia, and Richard D. Hackworth of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Alice A. Sipple of Beattyville, Ky., and Donna L. Dyer of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two brothers, Beverly Hackworth of Ada, Ohio, and Bruce Hackworth of Prestonsburg, Ky.; three sisters, Minerva Arnett of Claypool, Ind., Mabel Lemmon of Crumwell, Ind., and Alka Hale of Jasper, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with pastor Paul Aiken officiating.
Interment will be in the Hackworth Family Cemetery, Station Branch, Prestonsburg, Ky., under direction of Carter Funeral Home.
