Dixie Click Campbell, formerly of Auxier, passed away Wednesday morning, February 12, 2003, peacefully in her sleep, at the Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Dayton, Ohio. Her stay on this earth was 84 years, 10 months, and 18 days.
Dixie was born March 25, 1918, on the Doc Allen Branch of Beaver Creek. She was the fifth child of the late Joseph and Roberta Ratliff Click, and granddaughter of the renowned mountain doctor, Samuel “Bogue” Ratliff.
In March 1938, Dixie married
Hargus Campbell. From this union she was the mother of seven children and four step-children. Hargus passed away in 1946, as well as two sons, Samuel Thomas and George Daniel Campbell in infancy prior.
In the early 1960’s, Dixie joined the Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church at Wilson Creek, Langley, where her family had fellowshipped for many generations. In December 1964, she married
James Campbell. They soon left Langley, and eventually made their home in Auxier. From this union she had six step-children, Daniel Campbell, Garnard Campbell, Clinis Campbell, Anna Lea Frazier, Thelma Hale, and Rita Fay Smith-all surviving. James passed away in 1984.
Also preceding her in death were: a son, Andrew Jackson Campbell, in the Vietnam War in 1966; and a daughter, Billah DeBoard, in 1997; two brothers, Fred and Sam Click; one sister, Susie Hicks, and one stepson, Edgel Campbell.
Survivors include one sister, Addie Mae Click of Prestonsburg; three stepchildren, Etta Scott of Garrett, Mont Campbell of Abbott Creek, and Mima Jean Caudill of Sidney, Ohio; one son, Henry Campbell of Sidney, Ohio; and two daughters, Ora Allen of Dayton, and Lottie Fraley of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Dixie also leaves five grandchildren, Valarie Blair of Thelma, Mark DeBoard of Richmond, Marie Wilson of Greenville, Ohio, Kevin Fraley Highnight of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Heather Campbell of Indianapolis; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Landon Highnight and Morgan DeBoard.
Dixie enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, and many other hobbies throughout her life. During the ’80s and early ’90s, she was actively involved in the Archer Park Senior Center-until her health made it too hard to leave home.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Sunday, February 16, at Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Pallbearers: Kenneth De-Board, Mark DeBoard, Kevin Fraley Highnight, Art Powers, Chris Wilson, Nick Blair, and James Caudill.
Honorary: Jack Fraley, Shawn Toombs, Mont Campbell and Henry Campbell.
Annis Mae Deskins
Annis Mae Deskins, age 71, of Shiloh, Ohio, died Saturday, February 15, 2003, at the home of her son, in Shiloh, following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 5, 1932, in Glo, Floyd County, Kentucky, daughter of the late William McKinley and Venious Mae (Ratliff) Music. She had lived in the Greenwich and Shiloh areas most of her life. She enjoyed caring for her family and others, quilting, home decorating, gardening and cooking.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joe and Debbie Deskins, Tim and Donna Deskins, and Jerry Deskins, all of Shiloh; two daughters, Tami West of Shiloh, and Phyllis Evans of Shelby; one sister, Zora Inmon of Greenwich; five brothers, William Eugene “Bud” Music of Cincinnati, Ivan Music, R. Darrell Music, and Ronnie Music, all of Greenwich, Gary R. Music, of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles V. Deskins; five sisters, Barbara Music; twins, Dora and Dortha Music, Yvonne Slone and Billie Jean Deskins; a brother, John Edward Music; and a granddaughter, Tonia Schaeffer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, at the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 29 W. Main St., Shiloh, with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh.

Vernice “Granny” Stamper
Vernice “Granny” Stamper, age 81, of Martin, the widow of Sam Stamper, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2003, at her residence.
She was born March 26, 1921, at McDowell, the daughter of the late Milford and Puss Martin Hall.
She was a self-employed beautician, and was a member of the Martin Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Marshall of Martin; one granddaughter, Gina Scott of Danville; and one grandson, Ian Scott of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 19, at 1 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Martin, with Roy Harlow officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: Tommy Hall, John Hall Jr., Tony Elam, Ray Allen, Joe Scott, Lan Scott and Don Marshall.

Patricia Ann Lawson
Patricia Ann Lawson, age 47, of Drift, wife of Gregory Lee Lawson, passed away Monday, February 17, 2003, at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
She was born February 7, 1956, in Martin, the daughter of Emogene Wright Castle of Allen, and the late James Russell Castle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother she is survived by one son, Robert Dale Lawson of Martin; four brothers, Doug Castle and James Michael Castle, both of Printer, and Terry Castle and Steven Castle, both of Allen; two sisters, Kathy Ousley of Prestonsburg, and Rosemary Case of McDowell; and one grandchild, Austin Bradley Lawson.
Funeral services for Patricia Ann Lawson will be conducted Thursday, February 20, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Glenna Mae Stumbo
Glenna Mae Stumbo, age 69, of McDowell, passed away Monday, February 17, 2003, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born November 3, 1933, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Joe Stumbo and Ida Gibson Stumbo. She was a retired nurse, formerly employed by the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, at McDowell.
Survivors include one daughter, Lana Stumbo Smith of McDowell; two sisters, Roberta Lewis of McDowell, and Anna Sue Warrix of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Rachelle Nichole Howell and Brandon Howell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Stumbo, Hershel Stumbo, and Jay Lovel Stumbo; and two sisters, Marie Gibas and Esther Salisbury.
Funeral services for Glenna Mae Stumbo will be conducted Friday, February 21, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Harry Hargis officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is after 6 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Seelam Ashok Reddy
Seelam Ashok Reddy, 51, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, February 8, 2003, at his home.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, India, he was the eldest son of Ramakrishna and Janakamma Reddy. He was a recently retired radiologist who worked in eastern Kentucky, since 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sujatha Reddy of Prestonsburg.
Other survivors include one daughter, Prerana Reddy of New York City; three brothers, Prasad Reddy of Pleasanton, California; and Nagi Reddy and Chandrashekar Reddy, both of Phoenix, Arizona.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 15, between 6 and 9 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name, to the National Kidney Foundation.
Tommy Nelson
With a sad and aching heart, I’ll try to write an obituary of my son, Tommy Nelson.
He was born January 5, 1943, to Tom and Sally Nelson of Prestonsburg. His father preceded him in death on December 17, 1976. He was employed at Harvard Industries for 33 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and bowled on several bowling leagues. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was first married
to Norcie Dotson who preceded him in death. To this union was born one daughter, one son, and five grandchildren.
He later married, Sandy Smith, who survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, one son, five grandchildren, one step-daughter, one step-son, and one step-grandson.
Funeral services were held January 30, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home of Albion, Michigan, with the Rev. Estil Hamilton officiating.
Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery at Albion.

Elic Eugene “Gene” Blanton
Elic Eugene “Gene” Blanton, 48, of Jackson, Ohio, died Sunday, February 9, 2003, at the home of his father.
Born September 19, 1954, in Martin, he was the son of Elic J. Blanton of Chillicothe, Ohio, and the late Magdalene (Hamilton) Blanton. He worked as a brick mason, and was a member of the End Time Harvest Church.
He is survived by his fiancee, Barbara Folden.
Other survivors include two daughters, Nedra Blanton, and Gena Brown, both of Chillicothe, Ohio; one son, Chad Blanton of Chillicothe, Ohio; one sister, Judy (Clark) Stauffer, of Chillicothe, Ohio; two brothers, Mark K. (Rita) Blanton and Timothy Lee (Teresa) Blanton, both of Chillicothe, Ohio; a special nephew, Joshua Blanton; four grandchildren, Taylor Sowers, Wesley and Christopher Brown, and Chad Blanton.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 12, at the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, Ohio, with Rev. David Mohammad officiating.
Interment will be in the Huntington Township Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio, under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
