Hazel Robinson, age 87, of Martin, passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Salyersville Health Care Center.
She was born April 15, 1915, in Hindman, the daughter of the late Ambrose Taylor and Sela Boggs Taylor. She was a retired cook for the Floyd County School System.
Survivors include one daughter, Florine Dingus Arnett, of Madisonville; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Dingus, and her second husband, Robert Langford Robinson, and one son, Bill “Crush” Dingus.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 13, at noon, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Lori Vannucci officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Don Osborne, Merle Osborne, Charles Dingus, Jim Arnett, Rob Arnett and Steve Osborne.
Ida Stumbo Williams
Ida Stumbo Williams, 92, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born April 24, 1910, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late William and Artie Salisbury Stumbo. She was a retired school teacher for Salisbury Elementary School, and was a member of the Trimble Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, at Water Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane W. Pack of Prestonsburg, Jean Crabbe of Lexington, and Frances Bates of Booneville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles Stumbo, Perry Stumbo, James Arthur Stumbo, Harry Stumbo, Joe Kendall Stumbo, and Walter Stumbo; eight sisters, Arizonia Clifton, Caldonia Conn, See Carroll, Monnie Muncey, Maude Hall, Violia Allen, Bertha Stumbo, and Minnie Stumbo.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 11, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Johnnie Ross and Shawn Blair officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers: Matthew Morton, Christopher Chaffin, Don Camron Pack, James Arthur Pack, Jason Pack, Russell Music, Anthony Howell, and Jamie Fitzpatrick.

Elisha (J.J.) Hall
Elisha (J.J.) Hall, 19, of Drift, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Stumbo Hollow, at Drift.
Born April 25, 1983, in Martin, he was the son of Clinis Hall of Drift, and Rita Hall of Hi Hat. He was a coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Johnson Hall.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and parents, include his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Claudette Hall of Hi Hat; two brothers, Joshua Hall of Martin, and Isaiah Hall of Drift; and a sister, Emily Judith Hall of Drift.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Johnny and Armina Hall.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 10, at noon, at the Drift Pentecostal Church, at Drift, with Ralph Hall and Glenn Hayes officiating.
Burial was in the Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.
Troy “Duke” McKenzie
Troy “Duke” McKenzie, 88, of Spradlin Street, Auxier, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born on February 2, 1915, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late James Troy McKenzie and Ida Stevens McKenzie. He was a former coal miner, employed by Princess Elkhorn Coal Co., at David, and Island Creek Coal Company at Salisbury; a charter member of UMWA, and a 50-year member of East Point Masonic Lodge No. 657.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irma Marshall McKenzie of Auxier.
Other survivors include one son, William Duke McKenzie of Little Rock, Arkansas; two daughters, Judith Porter (Noah) of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Martha Thompson (Oscar W. III, M.D.) of Pikeville; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Troy McKenzie.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Bobby Joe Spencer, Calvin Setser and David Powers officiating.
Interment was at Gethsemane Gardens, Prestonsburg.
Carter Funeral Home is serving the McKenzie Family.
Pallbearers: Mack Porter, Tom Porter, Bob Porter, Dan Wells, Evan Justice, Clyde Tackett, Tony Griffith, and Michael Porter.
Laura Hunt Akers
Laura Hunt Akers, 90, of Stanville, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born December 6, 1912, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Sarah Lewis Hunt. She was a retired restaurant cook, and a member of the Mare Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Akers.
Survivors include one son, Rex R. Ross of East Point; two brothers, Harve Hunt of Tram, and George Hunt of Mare Creek; three sisters, Ruby Hunt of Lavonia, Michigan, and Callie Cecil and Ocie Pelphrey, both of Clearwater, Florida; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roland Hunt, John Hunt and Thomas Jay Hunt; and a sister, Eulivene Gunnels.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 10, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Jack Hunt officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Gary Edward Crum
Gary Edward Crum, 59, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born August 15, 1943, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Elworth Well Crum. He was a disabled truck driver.
Survivors include four daughters, Tammy Carol Glassman of South Bend, Indiana, Pamela Lynn Hensley of Indiana, Sherri Ciesielski of New Carsile, Indiana; one brother, Charles Keith Crum of Powell, Ohio; two sisters, Carol Crum (Kenneth) DeRossett and Andrea Crum (Payne Jr.) Blanton of Prestonsburg; six grandchildren, two nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Veerble Hackworth of Prestonsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, and one brother, George Roy Crum.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 11, at 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Garfield Potter officiating.
Burial was in the Wright-Crum Cemetery, at Cliff, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Ishmael Shepherd
Ishmael Shepherd, 74, of Hueysville, died Friday, March 7, at his residence.
Born May 4, 1928, in Hueysville, he was the son of the late Press and Lula Shepherd. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the Lakeville Old Regular Baptist Church, in Magoffin County.
Survivors include six sons, Owen Shepherd, Jeffery Shepherd, David Shepherd, Bryon Shepherd, Roger Dale Shepherd, and Eric Ron Shepherd, all of Hueysville; three daughters, Priscilla Sparkman and Sherry Lewis, both of Hueysville, and Phyllis Shepherd of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two brothers, Denver Dean Shepherd and Eugene Shepherd, both of Hueysville; five sisters, Shelby Conley, Thelma Sue Hicks, Maxine Shepherd, and Juanita Prater, all of Hueysville, and Barbara Vanderpool of Kendalville, Indiana; 13 grandchildren, Marvin Dwayne Sparkman, Paul Vernon Sparkman, Jessica Sparkman, Thomas Barrett Lewis, James Michael Lewis, Avala Faye Shepherd, Steven Wayne Shepherd, Zachary Shepherd, Benjamin Shepherd, Devon Lee Shepherd, Joshua Lewis Shepherd, Justin Kyle Shepherd and Brett Matthew Shepherd, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ishmael Ray Shepherd, and three sisters, Myrtle Shepherd, Betty Lou Prater, and Kanie Sparkman.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m., at the Saltlick United Community Baptist Church at Hueysville, with Bethel Bolen, Willie Collins, Carlos Beverly and Harold Clemons officiating.
Burial was in the Shepherd Family Cemetery at Hueysville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home, on Saturday; and Sunday, at the church, where nightly services were held at 7 p.m.
