Beatrice Brown Conley, 75, of 1617 Litterals Fork Road, Salyersville, Ky., died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at her residence.
Born on January 4, 1926, in Magoffin County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Lonzie Brown and Mary Wheeler Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer Conley.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Conley of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Patsy Burchett of Prestonsburg, Ky., Glenda Rhea of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Charles Brown of Lexington, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.O. Brown, and Marion Brown; and three sisters, Grethen Wheeler, Fern Silverman, and Dorothy Madeline Brown.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel, with Joe Carroll, Anthony Conley, Buster Blanton and Edgar Blanton officiating.
Burial will be in the Edmund Conley Cemetery, Litterals Fork, Salyersville, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Carolyn Elizabeth Lafferty
Carolyn Elizabeth Lafferty, age 60, of Garrett, Ky., passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, in Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, Ky.
She was born December 11, 1940, in Garrett, Ky., the daughter of the late Chester Hicks and Beatrice Prater Hicks. Mrs. Lafferty was a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ, Hueysville, Ky., and a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Edward Allen, Garrett, Ky., Jerry Dewayne Allen, Sturgis, Mi.; one brother, Weddle Hicks, Garrett, Ky.; five sisters, Sadie Chaffins, Garrett, Ky., Ramona Ousley, Hippo, Ky., Betty Holden, Willard, Oh., Lillie Rathert, Auburn, In., Evelyn Martin, Bucks Branch, Martin, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Lafferty was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Allen, and her second husband, Ruben Lafferty.
Funeral services for Carolyn Elizabeth Lafferty, were conducted Monday, May 14, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Clergyman Chester Varney officiating.
Burial followed in the Martin Cemetery, Hueysville, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: Zeb Ousley, Robert Owens, Michael Ousley, Terry Chaffins, Danny Stutzman, Coley Martin, and Jimmy Ray Hicks.
Charlene Stepp Jervis
Charlene Stepp Jervis, 79, of Cow Creek, Prestonsburg, Ky., died Friday, May 11, 2001, at her residence.
Born on January 14, 1922, at Pikeville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Floyd Stepp and Rebecca Viris Stepp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Jervis, December 27, 1989. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Florence Click of Leander, Ky.; one brother, Emmons Stepp of Oceana, West Virginia; two brothers are deceased, Kermit Stepp, and Hansel Stepp; surviving are two sisters, Lucy Blackburn of Oceana, West Virginia, Flordia Mash of Ohio; four grandchildren, Gwen Endicott, Dwayne Burchett, Deborah Goble, and Chester Ray Burchett; nine great-grandchildren, Chris Bradley, Charlene Mayhan, Justin Endicott, Kayla Endicott, Julia Burchett, Donna Burchett, Dristy Burchett, Crystal Gail Burchett and Joe Burchett; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 14, 2001, at 1 p.m., at her residence at Cow Creek, Ky.
Burial was in the Jervis Cemetery, Cow Creek, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at her residence at Cow Creek.
Ethel Wallen
Ethel Wallen, age 94, of Garrett, Ky., passed away Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
Born November 18, 1906, at Garrett, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Baxter and Elizabeth Hughes Wallen. She was retired from the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant in Indiana, and was a member of the Garrett First Baptist Church at Garrett, Ky., for 36 years.
Ms. Wallen is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the Garrett First Baptist Church, Garrett, Ky., with Randy Osborne and Larry Adams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the care of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was Tuesday after 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home, and will be after 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
Minnie Prater
Minnie Prater, age 95, of Martin, Ky., wife of the late Lundy Prater, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was born October 1, 1905, in Martin, Ky., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Martelia Bentley Samons. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Prater is survived by one brother, Vernon Samons of Martin, Ky., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Regular Baptist ministers, and Church of Christ ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Samons Family Cemetery, Arkansas Creek, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Monroe Jarrell (Popeye)
Monroe Jarrell (Popeye), 42, of East Point, Ky., died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, following an extended illness.
Born on June 26, 1958, at Johnson County, Ky., he was the son of the late Curt and Liz Endicott Jarrell.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Scott Jarrell.
Other survivors include two sons, James Mitchell Jarrell of Elesmere, Ky., Johanthan Wise Johnson of Hamilton, Ohio; one daughter, Elizabeth Eve Jarrell of Cobinston, Ky.; two brothers, James Walker Jarrell of Van Lear, Ky., Curtis Lee Jarrell of Williamstown, Ky.; four sisters, Oma Faye Johnson of David, Ky., Hattie Mae Hurd of Sugarloaf, Prestonsburg, Ky., Mable Charlene Jarrell of Price, Ky., Clara Oeida Hamilton of Endicott, Ky.; two grandchildren, Mitchell Tyler Jarrell and Michia Lynn Jarrell.

Nova Morgan
Nova Morgan, age 81, of Bevinsville, Ky., passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at her son’s residence at Bevinsville, Ky.
She was born May 5, 1920, at Price, Ky., the daughter of the late William Press and Orphina Cox Morgan. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Morgan is survived by one son, Ernie Ray Morgan of Bevinsville, Ky.; one brother, Troy Lee Morgan of Leesburg, Florida; and three grandchildren, Alisha Nichole Morgan, Margaret Anne Morgan, and Amy Elizabeth Morgan.
Funeral services for Nova Morgan will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Little Rock Regular Baptist Church, Bevinsville, Ky., with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery, Hi Hat, Ky., under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
