Marie H. Martin, age 88, of Kite, Kentucky, wife of the late Ibra Martin, passed away Friday, April 20, 2001, in the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Kentucky.
Born May 27, 1912, at Kite, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Jethro and Rosie Meade Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Amon Martin of Kite, Kentucky, Anon Martin of Liberty, Kentucky, and Namon Martin of Topmost, Kentucky; two daughters, Mae Amburgey of Pinetop, Kentucky, and Rose Wiwi of Harrison, Ohio; two sisters, Anna Hampton of Lexington, Kentucky, and Goshen Hall of Kite, Kentucky; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Miami Martin.
Funeral services for Marie H. Martin were conducted Monday, April 23, 2001, at 11 a.m., in the Rebecca Regular Baptist Church, Kite, Kentucky.
Burial was in the Jethro Hall Cemetery, Kite, Kentucky.
Visitation was after 5 p.m., Saturday at Hall Funeral Home; after 10 a.m., Monday, at the church.
Pallbearers were Nathan Martin, Jamie Martin, Phillip Hicks, Austin Hicks, Jason Carrier, and Lee Gerald.
Pauline McFarland Holman
Pauline McFarland Holman, 70, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, following an extended illness.
Born on October 1, 1930, at Delval, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Maude Witt McFarland. She was a homemaker and attended the Katy Friend Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Holman.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Bulah Smith.
Survivors include one son, Edward James Holman of David, Kentucky; one daughter, Tonia E. McCoy of David, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Holman, and Sonya Webb; and one great-grandchild, Austin Smith.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky, with Jim Price and Lorie Vannucci officiating.
Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery, at Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Ray Spurlock
Ray Spurlock, 66, of Printer, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following an extended illness.
Born on September 12, 1934, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Tandy L. Spurlock and Virgie Elliott Spurlock Hall. He was a disabled tool dresser for Kentucky West Virginia Gas Company, and a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Hall Spurlock.
Other survivors include three sons, James O. Spurlock of Minnie, Tandy L. Spurlock and John Keith Spurlock, both of Printer; five daughters, Doris Rae Hyden of Louisville, Lana Faye Johnson of Garrett, Sondra Kaye Spurlock of Prestonsburg, Linda Sue McCoy of Printer, and Valery Michelle Spurlock of Florida; three brothers, Rondald Spurlock and Roy Spurlock, both of Printer, Russell Spurlock of Martin; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 30, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Spurlock Cemetery, at Printer.
DAV funeral services were conducted by Chapter 128, at Garrett.
Pallbearers were Dick Hyden, Justin Hyden, Barry Moore, Greg Shannly, Bobby Scott, Dewayne Hall, Ernest Jackson, Brian Spurlock, and Billy Roy Spurlock.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Goins, Melvin Goins, Robert Meade Jr., Zandal Adams, Denver Mullins, Dale Hall, Russell Spurlock, Denver Spurlock, and Darrell Carreel.
Susan Mae Spurlock
Susan Mae Spurlock, 82, of London, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her son’s residence in London.
She was born January 9, 1919, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late James Milton and Laura Belle Crum Humble. She was a member of the Overland Church of Christ, at Lawrenceburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Spurlock.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Spurlock of London; five daughters, Janice A. Fraley of Urbana, Ohio, Pauletta Sears of London, Lana S. McKinney of Lexington, Anna L. Belcher of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Gwen L. Langley of Knoxville, Tennessee; one sister, Peggy Jo Damron of Robinson Creek; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Larry Morgan officiating.
Burial was in the Meade Cemetery, at Printer.
Pallbearers were Mike Fraley, Mark Fraley, Rod Sears, Scott Sears, Brian Sears, Kevin Sears, Geoffrey Spurlock, Travis Spurlock, Shane Addington, Kevin Robinson, and Kristopher Lawrence.
James David Childers
James David Childers, 51, of Wayland, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
He was born December 2, 1949, in Lackey, the son of Garnett Hall Childers of Belleville, Michigan, and the late Ed Childers. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Childers.
Other survivors include one son, John Childers of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Deborah Childers of Kite; two brothers, Paul Childers of Paris, Edgar Childers Jr. of Lexington; two sisters, Sandra Sue Delaney of Belleville, Michigan, Patricia Ann Squires of Chelsea, Michigan; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin.
Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery.
Charles David Breeding
Charles David Breeding, age 51, of 858 N. Main St., Marion, Ohio, formerly of Wheelwright, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 2:03 p.m., at Marion General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Anna M. Ganson Breeding, and two sons, Paul, of Canton, Ohio; and David, of Marion.
Charlie was born June 17, 1949, at Martin, Ky., to the late Paul Breeding and Mary E. Powers Breeding, who survives.
Other survivors include one brother, Ricky Breeding, of Marion, Ohio; three sisters, Judy Breeding Bartley, of Melvin, Ky.; Betty Rose Breeding Ganson, of Marion, Ohio; Paula Breeding Travis, of Milton, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold “Beanie” Breeding. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of Maranatha Bible Baptist Church, a member of VFW Post 3313, previously worked at Eaton Corp., and Depot Express, currently an independent truck driver for Bear-Lines.
Visitation was held Tuesday, April 24, from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m., at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, where the service was held Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at 11 a.m.
Burial was in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens with graveside services by Marion Area United Veterans Council and Chaplain Fred Eyster.
Memorial contributions may be made to the choice of the donor.
John Wallace Whitt
John Wallace Whitt, 71, of Waterville, Ohio, died December 15, 2000, at Heartland of Browning Care Center.
He was born May 16, 1929, in Floyd County, a son of the late Sherman Whitt and Gertrude Ramey Whitt. He was a former coal miner and a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by a son, Terry Whitt of Clay City; three sisters, Addie Reed of Toledo, Ohio, Hattie Kestner of Thealka, and Elizabeth Blevins of Offutt; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, December 18, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, with ministers Terry Conley and Steve Rose officiating.
Burial was in the Whitt Family Cemetery at Swamp Branch.
