Louise Hicks, 62, of Hueysville, died Monday, December 25, 2000, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born July 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Virgie Tackett Adkins. She was a retired custodian at Allen Central High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Hicks.
Survivors include three sons, Ricky Dean Hicks, Duane Eddie Hicks and Ronald Keith Hicks, all of Hueysville; two brothers, Wayne and Ray Vernon Adkins of Hueysville; one sister, Mae Duff of Hueysville; and two grandchildren, Melanie Nicole and Fred Tyler Hicks.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 29, at Maytown Methodist Church in Maytown, with ministers Roy Harlow, Jerry Manns and Paul Rice officiating.
Burial was in the Adkins Cemetery at Prater Fork, Hueysville, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Louise Hicks were Scott Bellamy, Robert Prater, Robbie Prater, Rodney Bradley, Shannon Adkins, John Goble, Stevie Allen, Jerry Rice, Terry Bellamy, Stephen Blevins and Leroy Prater.
Lonnie Bowling
Lonnie Bowling, 94, of Martin, died Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center.
She was born May 30, 1906, at Ashcamp, and was a daughter of the late William and Mary Castle Cook. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Morehead for 74 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ory L. Bowling.
Survivors include three sons, Chester Bowling of Greenfield, Indiana, Harold Bowling of Vandalia, Ohio, and Robert Bowling of Stone Mountain, Georgia; three daughters, Verla Thornsberry of Lewisburg, Ohio, Pina B. Click of Martin, and Patricia Bowling Tackett of Richmond; one brother, Joe Cook of Alexandria, Virginia; three sisters, Susan Fleming of Hurricane, West Virginia, Lexie DeRossett of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Lestel Hyden of Hellier; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, December 28, at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, with minister Ted Shannon officiating. Burial was in the Grassy Lick Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bob Thornsberry, Bobbie Click Jr., Bill Bowling, Richard Bowling, Dale Hager and Jody Kennedy.
Abbie Gail Akers Shultz
Abbie Gail Akers Shultz, 82, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, December 23, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Born June 12, 1918, at Blue Moon, she was a daughter of the late Webster and Ida Hamilton Akers. She was a homemaker and member of the Lancer Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Shultz.
She is survived by three sisters, Liza Jane Kidd of Pikeville, Nancy Leedy of Hi Hat and Nellie Martin of Marion, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 26, at Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Bennie Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
Pallbearers were Craig Akers, Keith Akers, Eugene Akers, Jody Akers and Bretton Akers.
Mervil Ilene Williams
Mervil “Mussie” Ilene Williams, 63, of Homer, Michigan, died Sunday, December 24, 2000, at her residence.
She was born December 23, 1937, in Martin, a daughter of the late Harmon and Alpha Damron Newsome. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Branham.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Branham of Albion, Michigan, Michael Branham of Pikeville, and Jeffery Branham of Robinson Creek; two daughters, Janice May of Homer, Michigan, and Theresa Branham of Tacoma, Washington; five brothers, Conley Newsome of Port Clinton, Ohio, Ronald Newsome of Jackson, Ohio, Bennett Newsome of South Webster, Ohio, Denver Newsome of Athens, Ohio, and Dennis Newsome of Jackson, Michigan; two sisters, Barbara Fisher of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Stacey Newsome of Greer, South Carolina; 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 29, at 1 p.m., at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home - Virgie Chapel, with ministers Monroe Jones, Eles Case and Kermit Wright officiating. Burial is to be in the Newsome Branch Cemetery at Virgie.
Beulah Stapleton Allen
Beulah Stapleton Allen, 91, of Langley, died Sunday, December 24, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Born December 29, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mollie Conley Stapleton. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Allen.
She is survived by one son, Joe Edward Allen of Langley; two daughters, Virginia Spears and Betty Frasure, both of Langley; one brother, Earnest Stapleton of Haysi, Virginia; two sisters, Irene Hall of Robinson and Lorene Trimble of John’s Creek; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were Wednesday, December 27, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Martin with Bob Varney officiating. Burial followed in the Leonard Allen Cemetery at Langley.
Pallbearers were Gene Frasure, Keith Frasure, Rodney Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Jr. Spears, Jonathan Spears, Barry Click, Doug Frasure, Robert Robinson, Van Ramey, Joey Spears and Howard Spears.
Clara Hughes
Clara Hughes, age 86, of Willard, Ohio, died Sunday, December 24, 2000, at the Willard Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born October 27, 1914, in Hippo, she lived in Shelby, Ohio, from 1951 to 1977, when she then moved to Willard. She was a member of the Willard United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Melvin Hughes and parents, Alka and Arena (Hicks) Davis.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Conley of Willard and Edna Lykins of Surprise, Arizona; one brother, Floyd Davis; two sisters, Sarah Reffett of Kentucky and Anna Shepherd of Willard; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, December 28, at the Willard United Baptist Church, with ministers James Wilson and Danny Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, under the direction of Secor Funeral Home.

Goldie B. Vincent
Goldie B. Vincent, 95, of Wayland, died Thursday, December 21, 2000, at Our Lady Of the Way Hospital in Martin.
Born November 13, 1905, at Collista in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Jane Conley Blair. She was a member of Steeles Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. “Jack” Vincent.
Survivors include one son, Billy J. Vincent of Lexington; two daughters, Mary E. Stewart of Wayland, and Anna Mae Welch of Elyria, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were Sunday, December 24, at the Steeles Creek Regular Baptist Church, with ministers Jimmy Hall, Clifford Williams and Homer Howell officiating. Burial followed in the Martin Cemetery in Wayland, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Pallbearers were Sam Bentley, Dean Hall, David Bradley, Adam Bradley, Shawn Hamilton and Rondal Stewart.
Marion Yates
Marion Yates, 88, of Printer, died Thursday, December 21, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was born April 1, 1912, at Printer, a son of the late Robert Lee and Edith Ray Yates. He was a retired gas company employee and carpenter, and a member of the Old Time Regular Baptist Church at Printer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Belle Hall Yates.
He is survived by two sons, Warren G. Yates of Harold and Franklin D. Yates of Honaker; five daughters, Inez Kilburn and Ruby Wallen, both of Martin, and Ella Mae Pyne, Vannie Dameron and Norma J. Mature of Printer; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Marion Yates were Sunday, December 24, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel at Martin, with Denver Meade and Harold Dameron officiating. Burial followed in the Meade Cemetery at Printer.
Pallbearers were Marion Kilburn, Randal Dameron, Jeremy Kilburn, Randy Carroll, Dean Carroll, David Kilburn, Brandon Carroll, Jamie Kilburn and Namon Mature.
