Ruthalo Hall Mills, 65, of Newport News, Virginia, formerly of Garner, died Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at the Riverside Hospital in Newport News.
She was born July 7, 1935, at Raven, the daughter of the late Graden and Dema Terry Hall. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Carl Mills, Frederick Mills and Emil Gene Mills; two brothers, Larry Hall of Ashland and Gregory Scott Hall of Prestonsburg; four sisters, Janice Hall of Marietta, Georgia, Emogene Waddles of Newport News, Virginia, Naewana Nickels of Louisville and Juanita Fought of LaGrange, Indiana; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 23, at 10 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jennings West officiating.
Burial will be in the Hall Cemetery at Raven, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home of Prestonsburg.
Haden Conley
Haden Conley, 86, of Irvine, formerly of Haddix, died Monday, December 18, 2000 at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of the late Willis and Mimia Coburn Conley.
Survivors include one brother, former Circuit Judge Hollie Conley of Floyd County; three sisters, Bessie C. Draughn of Lexington, Sallie C. Scherrer of Ft. Washington, Maryland, and Inez C. Cox of Corbin.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 21, at 10 a.m., at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson.
Burial will be in the Tharp Cemetery at Haddix, under the direction of Breathitt Funeral Home.
Allie Wicker
Allie Wicker, 78, of Harold, died Sunday, December 17, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on February 19, 1922, in Craynor, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Armina Mitchell. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Ross Wicker.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Lee Wicker and Billy Eugene Wicker, both of Sandusky, Ohio; four daughters, Evelyn Ovene Sloan of Harold, Joyce Ann Hicks of Concord, Michigan, Barbara Sue Cannon of Homer, Michigan, Irene Darcus Thacker of Pikeville; three brothers, Andy Mitchell of Harold, Charlie Mitchell and Kinnel Mitchell, both of Grethel, 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 21, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery, Mink Branch, Craynor, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Coy Shepherd
Coy Shepherd, 81, of Hueysville, died Sunday, December 17, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
Born on July 14, 1919, in Hueysville, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Burlie Coburn Shepherd. He was a disabled veteran, having served in the Army, Navy, Air Force and U.S. Marines. He served in World War II and Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion Post 086 in Kendallville, Indiana.
Survivors include Alex Shepherd and Lloyd Shepherd, both of Kendallville, Indiana; three sisters, Tilly Stevens of Kendallville, Indiana, Norma Lovely of Avilla, Indiana, and Faye Shepherd of Hueysville.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 20, at 11 a.m., at the Salt Lick Community United Baptist Church, at Hueysville, with Bethel Bolen, Cullin Caudill and Allen Shaffins officiating.
Burial will be in the Shepherd Cemetery, Hueysville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Curtis Duane Bentley
Curtis Duane Bentley, 57, of McDowell, died Sunday, December 17, 2000, at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1943, in Martin, the son of the late Hatfield Bentley and Dorothy Jones Bentley. He was a coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Spears Bentley.
Other survivors include one son, Greg Bentley of McDowell; two daughters, Greta Tackett of Drift, Amanda Bentley of McDowell; one brother, Paul Bentley of Hippo; one sister, Ruby Damron of McDowell; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 19, at 11 a.m., at the Little Rosa Church of the Old Regular Baptists of the New Salem Association, at McDowell, with the Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Curtis Duane Bentley were Ken Damron, Alan Damron, Carl Bentley Jr., Mike Collins, Ricky Hitchcock, Rodney Damron, Brian Stumbo and Terry Williams.
Burial was in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery, Frasure Creek, McDowell, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Gregory Darrell Spurlock
Gregory Darrell Spurlock, 37, of Millersburg, Ohio, son of Ethel Mae Spurlock, of Millersburg, Ohio, died Thursday, December 14, 2000, in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born December 14, 1963, in McDowell.
Survivors, other than his mother, include three brothers, Ronnie Franklin Spurlock, Donnie Spurlock and Roland Spurlock, all of Millersburg, Ohio; two sisters, Karen Marvin of Millersburg, Ohio, Nell Ruth Spurlock of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 18, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Denver Meade, officiating.
Burial was in the Spurlock Cemetery, at Printer, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Pallbearers were Ted Spurlock, Donnie Spurlock, Ed Carver, Steve Hall and Ron Spurlock.
Jettie Bowling
Jettie Bowling, 77, of Weeksbury, died Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at U.K. Medical Center, Lexington, following a brief illness.
Born on February 12, 1923, in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late John Epp and Roxie Epling Rowe.
She was a special designer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Drexel Bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest Earl Bowling of Ecorse, Michigan, Benjamin Bowling of Knightstown, Indiana; four daughters, Anna Jean Triplett of Jabez, Darcus Faine of Garrett, Hester Johnson of Bypro, Roxie Bowling of Harold; two brothers, Sterling Rowe of Alabama, Dale Rowe of Rockhouse; three sisters, Kelsie Stapleton of Harold, Carrie Vancover of Seattle, Washington, and Virgie Harden of Detroit, Michigan.

Mary Johnson Jones
Mary Johnson Jones, 86, of Bevinsville, died Saturday, December 16, 2000, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on April 25, 1914, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Burke Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Patterson Jones.
Survivors include two daughters, Eura Lou Burke of Bevinsville, Barbara Ellen Ashworth of Bluefield, Virginia; one sister, Sylvina Hall of Kite; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 19, at noon, at the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church at Bevinsville, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
