Dave Sizemore, 92, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
Born September 23, 1908, in Water Gap, he was the son of the late Buttler Sizemore and Aria McGuire Sizemore. He was a coal miner, a well operator at Inland Gas Company, and a musician. He was also one of the founders of the Highlands Folk Festival and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Shepherd Sizemore.
Other survivors include one son, Carl Sizemore of Morehead; one daughter, Lyda S. Caudill of Prestonsburg; one brother, Henry (Son) Sizemore of South Whitley, Indiana; two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 8, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Ted Shannon officiating.
Burial was in the Reynolds-Sizemore Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were David Sizemore, Jerry Caudill, Jeremy Caudill, Adam Sizemore, Herb Whitaker, Robert Willis and Dr. Lowell Martin.
Clouie Lewis
Clouie Lewis, 88, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Banner, died Monday, December 11, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following a brief illness.
She was born March 17, 1912, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Samuel Tauble Lewis and Julie Crum Lewis. She was the step-daughter of Zina Lewis of Stanville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gram Lewis.
Survivors, other than her step-mother, include four sons, Willis Lewis and Dewey Lewis, both of Prestonsburg, Thurman Lewis of Banner, William Bruce Lewis of Des Plaines, Illinois; three daughters, Susie Lewis of Pyramid, Eleanor Goble and Rebecca Goble, both of Prestonsburg; one step-brother, Eddie Dean Lewis of Westville, Indiana; three brothers, Roscoe Lewis and Monroe Lewis, both of Morgan County, Marvin Lewis of Tram; four sisters, Mealthie Harmon of Tennessee, Doris Jean Hunt and Della Faye Martin, both of Stanville, Elma Hunt of Tram, 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 14, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Jennings West, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Clouie Lewis were Greg Duncan, Timothy Lewis, Joe Lewis, Hubert Goble, Junior Lewis, Monroe Lewis and Matt Carty.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Ethel Branham Hamilton
Ethel Branham Hamilton, 91, of Grethel, died Monday, December 13, 2000, following an accident.
Born on January 22, 1909, in Grethel, she was the daughter of the late James and Anzie Sword Branham. He was a retired postmaster at Grethel, and a member of the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernie Hamilton.
Survivors include one grandson, Darrell Hamilton of Grethel; one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 13, at 11 a.m., at the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church at Grethel, with ministers of Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Roberts Cemetery, at Grethel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Fred Sweeney
Fred Sweeney, 65, of Prestonsburg, died Friday, December 8, 2000, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
Born on May 13, 1935, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Starlin Sweeney and Mary Goodman Sweeney.
He was a disabled veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the DAV at Auxier. He was a member of the Third Avenue Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Sweeney of North Carolina, and Fred Sweeney Jr.; three daughters, Lakena Hammond of Smyrna, Delaware, Mary Devine of Delaware, Susan Sweeney; one brother, Frank Sweeney of Plant City, Florida; two sisters, Maggie Allen, and Julia Sweeney, both of Prestonsburg; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 11, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Manford Fannin officiating.
Burial was in the West Prestonsburg Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Karen Sue Reynolds
Karen Sue Reynolds, 41, of Printer, died Friday, December 8, 2000, at Wolfe County Care Center, Campton, following an extended illness.
Born on November 16, 1959, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of Marietta Halbert Reynolds of Printer, and the late Thomas Reynolds. She was an office worker for Landmart Inn in Pennsacola, Florida and was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include one son, Jason Ryan Reynolds of Printer; three brothers, Stephen Terry Reynolds of Oregon City, Oregon, Wayne Edward Reynolds of Printer, Ronald Neal Reynolds of Allen; three sisters, Sharon Kaye Mayo of Printer, Donna Gay Davlantis of Springfield, Illinois, and Maria Lynn Reynolds of Martin.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 12, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Renee Thornsberry officiating.
Burial was in the Halbert Cemetery, Printer, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Buford Laferty
Buford Laferty, 62, of Sturgis, Michigan, died Thursday, December 7, 2000, at his home.
Born June 28, 1938, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Dealie Hughes Laferty. He was a truck driver for over 30 years. He was last employed for 10 years by CMT in White Pigeon from which he retired. He was a member of the Sturgis Church of Christ and was a US Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Laferty of Sturgis.
Other survivors include two daughters, Laury Simms of St. Marys, Georgia, Vicki Green of Pickerington, Ohio; three sons, John Bennett of Nottawa, Michigan, Buford Scott of White Pigeon, Martin Scott of Sturgis; two sisters, Ina Taulbee of Sturgis, Michigan, Pat Elkins of Bronson, Michigan; one brother, James Laferty of Sturgis, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 11, with Rev. Dennis Wheeler, pastor of the Sturgis Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will be in the White Pigeon Township Cemetery, White Pigeon, Michigan.
Mary Lou Ritchie Houser
Mary Lou Ritchie Houser, 62, of Osgood, Indiana, formerly of Wayland, died Friday, December 8, 2000, at her residence, following a brief illness.
Born 1934, in Wayland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Ritchie. She was a foundry worker.
Survivors include one son, Roy Collins of Osgood, Indiana; three daughters, Judy Collins, Pauline Collins and Mary Catherine Collins of Osgood; six brothers, Edward Ritchie of Wayland, Chester Ray Ritchie of North Bern, Indiana, Earl Ritchie of Somerset, Omer Ritchie of Osgood, Paul Ritchie of West Port, Indiana, Johnny Ritchie of Mt. Sterling; two sisters, Ollie Allen of Wayland, Ethel Mae Mullins of Comarheu and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 12, at the Fields Funeral Home in Osgood.
Burial will be in the family cemetery, Osgood, Indiana, under the direction of Fields Funeral Home.

Ruthie Hall
Ruthie Hall, 75, of Wayland, died Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on August 20, 1925, in Breathitt County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Mae Isaac Sparkman. She was a member of the Little Country Church, Wayland.
She is survived by her husband, Clester Hall.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmy Darrell Hall and Ralph Hall, both of Wayland, Burnis Dean Hall of Lackey, David Glen Hall of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Jessie Mae Patton of Garrett, Anna Sue Crager of Wayland; one brother, Jesse Sparkman of Garrett; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 10, at 11 a.m., at the Little Country Church, Mill Creek, Wayland, with Grant Hurley, Harold Howard, Clint Howard and Tommy Collett officiating.
Burial will be in the Hall Family Cemetery, Wayland, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
