Bertha Bartley Tackett, age 83, of Lancaster, Ohio, formerly of Shelbiana, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, November 7 at her resisdence.
She was born on March 29, 1917 in Penny Road, Virgie. She was the daughter of the late William and Rebecca Newsome Bartley. She was a homemaker.
She was survived by her two sons, Edgel Tackett of Pikeville, Virgil Tackett of Cincinnati, two daughters, Arizon Kiser of Lancaster, Ohio, Lenna Newsome of Fort Clinton, Ohio, and one sister Oma Hamilton of Ashville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Tackett; father - William Bartley; mother - Rebecca Newsome; and three brothers, Amos Bartley, Cecil Bartley and Clement Bartley.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11 at 11 a.m. at R.S. Jones & Sons Funeral Home at the Virgie Chapel. Ministers will be Monroe Jones, Eles Case, Hillard Newsome, Marvin Bryant and others. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Virgie Chapel, with services nightly at 7 p.m.
Interment at the Newsome Branch Cemetery in Virgie, Kentucky.
Billy Lee Akers
Billy Lee Akers, 28, of McDowell, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at his residence, following a sudden illness.
Born on April 12, 1972, in McDowell, he was the son of George Lee Akers of Prestonsburg, and Verlene Evans Collins of McDowell. He was a disabled coal miner and was a member of the Tackett Fork Freewill Baptist Church at Beaver.
Survivors, other than his parents, include one son, Billy Lee Akers of Beaver; three daughters, Keisha Akers, Whitney Akers and Kelsey Akers, all of Beaver; one brother, Mickey Akers of Cumberland; three sisters, Vicki Hurst, and Lyla Frasure, both of McDowell, and Connie Spears of Langley.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 9, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Tivis Caudill and Johnny Caudill officiating.
Burial will be in the Evans Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Wayne Davis
Wayne Davis, 91, of Allen, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at his residence, following a brief illness.
Born on December 7, 1908, in Breathitt County, he was the son of the late Lee and Rose Clemons Davis. He was a retired mining inspector, and was a member of the Praise Assembly Church of God at Prestonsburg. He was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Maycel Dunaway Davis.
Other survivors include three daughters, Linda James, and Waynette Keebaugh, both of Prestonsburg, and Ocie May of Allen; one step-sister, Myrtle Cornette of Hindman; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 8, at 11 a.m., at the Praise Assembly Church of God at Prestonsburg, with Pastor J. M. Sloce officiating.
Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
James Wilber Baldridge
James Wilber Baldridge, 77, of East Point, died Sunday, December 3, 2000, at his residence.
Born on January 15, 1923, in Bays Branch, Floyd County, he was the son of the late George Baldridge and Lettie Harmon Baldridge. He was a self-employed carpenter and coal miner.
Survivors include one sister, Myrtle B. Burchett of Prestonsburg.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in the George Baldridge Cemetery, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Edman “Beaver” Barnett
Edman “Beaver” Barnett, 70, of Martin, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, in Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
He was born September 18, 1930, in Cumberland, the son of the late G.W. Barnett and Nannie Rhoton. He was a member of the Faith Bible Church, Martin, John W. Hall Masonic Lodge No. 950, a Scottish Rite, 32 degree Mason, and a self-employed businessman.
He is survived by his wife, Theada Barnett.
Other survivors include two sons, Bruce Alan Barnett and James Edman Barnett, both of Martin.
Masonic funeral rites were conducted Tuesday evening, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 6, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergymen Don Crisp and Ed Taylor officiating.
Those serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Edman “Beaver” Barnett were Adrian Rector, Dr. Lowell Martin, Ben J. Spradlin, Glenn Patrick, Bill Woods, Jimmy Branham, Joe Moore, Phillip Sparkman, Herman Joseph, Frank Hall, S.L. Reed, Raymond Martin, Mert Dupoy and Don Spears.
Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Edna Mae Allen Callison
Edna Mae Allen Callison, 92, of Allen, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at the Riverview Health Care Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
She was born August 17, 1908, in Allen, the daughter of the late Alex L. and Mary A. Allen. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, at Allen, and was a former beautician.
Her husband, Charles T. Callison, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores Ann Frasure of Mousie.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 5, at 11 a.m., at the Christ United Methodist Church, Allen, with Dr. Kenneth Lemaster officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Delano May, Danny Allen, Tim Allen, Robert Martin, Mike Mays and Frank Fitzpatrick.
Ethel Marie Burchett
Ethel Marie Burchett, 89, of Meeker, Ohio, formerly of Prestonsburg, died Monday, December 4, at the Marion General Hospital.
Born February 1, 1911, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late John Hurd and Ann Click Hurd. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Burchett.
Survivors include one son, John Burchett of Morral, Ohio; five daughters, Ruth Burchett of Morral, Ohio, Phyllis Burchett of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, W. Jean Shirea, Wanda Hecker, Amy Thompson, and Gladys Sue Hickman, all of Meeker, Ohio; one brother, Alvin Hurd of Prestonsburg; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 7, at 10 a.m., at the Boyd Funeral Home, Marion, Ohio, with Pastor Floyd D. Barker and Steve Burchett officiating.
Burial will be in the Meeker Cemetery, under the direction of Boyd Funeral Home.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Glenn Tackett
Glenn Tackett, 68, of Dayton, Ohio, died Saturday, October 14, 2000.
He was the son of the late Marvin and Frances Bentley Tackett, formerly of McDowell. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post No. 431, American Legion Post 200 and Amvets.
His wife, Ivelene, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana Officer and Kathy Tackett, both of Dayton, Ohio; one brother Delmon Tackett of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Bessie Jean Sharp of Miamisburg; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Newcomer, Barclay Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Carr officiating.
Burial was in the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Linda Faye Wallen Harris
Linda Faye Wallen Harris, 49, of Lexington, formerly of Allen, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born May 7, 1951, at Prestonsburg, the daughter of Billy Dee and Doris Ann Smith Wallen, now of Mount Sterling. She was a Pharmacy Technician at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
She is survived by her husband, John Harris.
Other survivors include two sons, Ryan E. Porter and Vernon M. Porter, both of Allen; one daughter, Jessica Stapleton of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Deborah Wright of Owensville and Dave Ann Spangle of Huntington, Indiana; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 6, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with the Rev. Mark Tackett officiating.
Burial will be in the Bingham Family Cemetery on Town Branch, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
