Hattie Hamilton Mitchell, 82, of Trenton, Michigan, formerly of Beaver, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at her residence, following a sudden illness.
Born on March 7, 1918, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Mahaley Newsome Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Jack Mitchell.
Survivors include one step-son, Willie B. Mitchell of Beaver; one step-daughter, Polly Howell of Louisville; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 30, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Elder Orville Mitchell and others officiating.
Burial will be in the Andy Mitchell Cemetery, at Beaver, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Mable Griffith
Mable Griffith, 68, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, October 26, 2000, at her residence.
She was born December 6, 1931, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late William and Maggie Thomas Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Griffith.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Hutt of McArthur, Ohio, Denzil Ratliff and Wayne Ratliff, both of Wabash, Indiana; three daughters, Vivian Ann Ratliff of Wabash, Indiana and Mabel Ratliff and Angel Griffith, both of Prestonsburg; one sister, Myrtie Fraley of Prestonsburg and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 28, at 9 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg.
Bessie Bradford Hackworth
Bessie Bradford Hackworth, 73, of Auxier, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Born on October 8, 1927, at West Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late Winston and Lizzie Slone Bradford.
Her husband, Johnnie Hackworth, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, John Wayne Hackworth of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Ronnie Hackworth, DeGarmo Hackworth, and James Hackworth, all of Auxier; three daughters, Judy Carol Bays of Abbott, Helen H. Slone and Debbie Rowe, both of Auxier; one brother, Berlin Bradford of Blue River; one sister, Mary Bradford of Florida; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 25, at 10:30 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. William Jaggers officiating.
Burial was in the Hackworth Family Cemetery at Auxier, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Barbara Sue Little
Barbara Sue Little, 52, of Martin, died Friday, October 27, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on February 13, 1948, in Virginia, she was the daughter of Florence Hall Click of Churchill, Tennessee, and the late James Clinton Slemp.
She is survived by her husband, Carlos "Carbide" Little.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Kelly of Churchill, Tennessee; two brothers, Robert C. Tucker of Ocala, Florida, Michael Glenn Slemp of Churchill; one sister, Audrey Smith of Churchill, and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, October 29, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Rayce Lee Vanderpool
Rayce Lee Vanderpool, 81, of Powell, Tennessee, died Monday, October 16, 2000, at his home.
Born December 17, 1918, in McDowell, he was the son of the late John and Laura Hall Vanderpool.
He retired in 1983 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems as an electrician at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, attended First Baptist Church of Powell, was a 48-year member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756, was also a member of Chapter No. 390 of the Order of Eastern Star, and was named a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hill Vanderpool.
Other survivors include one son, Royce D. Vanderpool of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Janice "Vandy" Shake of Olney, Illinois; and three sisters, Magia Carver, Shirley Emory and Mavis Kohler, all of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic rites were conducted in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, October 19, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, with Rev. Phillip Jones officiating, and members of the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard conducting military rites.
Marvin Rowe
Marvin Rowe, 90, of Calvert City, died Monday, October 16, 2000, at Britthaven Healthcare in Benton.
He was the son of the late Miles and Minnie Helton Rowe. He was a maintenance worker at SKW Alloys, and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 543.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Flannery Rowe.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ford and one son, James A. Rowe, both of Calvert City; two half sisters, Pearl Davis of Shelby Gap, Mae Wright of McRoberts; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 18, at Collier Funeral Home Inc., with Ralph Rudolph and William Franklin officiating.
Burial was in the Marshall County Memory Garden in Benton.
Ricky "Possum" Akers
Ricky "Possum" Akers, 45, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, following an automobile accident.
Born on March 12, 1955, in Martin, he was the son of Rudolph and Marjorie Webb Akers of Martin. He was a disabled coal miner and a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include one son, Billy Joe Akers of Lexington; one step-son, David Cline of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Jamie Lynn Ray of Lexington; one step-daughter, Gina Cline of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Larry Akers and Terry Lee Akers, both of Martin; one sister, Jennifer Dove of Silver Lake, Indiana, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 27, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Randy Osborne and Graden Howard officiating.
Burial will be in the Akers Family Cemetery, Cracker Bottom Road, Martin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Osa Neeley
Osa Neeley, 75, of Columbia City, Indiana, formerly of Garrett, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on July 14, 1925, in Garrett, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Minnie Stamper Cox. She was a retired LPN.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roland Grigsby, and her second husband, Kernie Neeley.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Grigsby of Butler, Indiana, Joe Neeley of Syracuse, Indiana; one daughter, Ola Howard of Eastern, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 28, at 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with James Blair officiating.
Burial will be in the Chaffins Cemetery, Garrett, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Tivis J. Lyon Jr.
Tivis J. Lyon Jr., 63, of Staffordsville, died Monday, October 23, 2000, at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland.
Born on June 9, 1937, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Tivis Lyon and Inez Ross Lyon. He was a regstered nurse and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Little Lyon.
Other survivors include one son, Daniel T. Lyon of Staffordsville; three daughters, Debra Jain Rogers of Robinson Creek, Ethena Kay Lyon of Ashland, Lora E. Wells of Prestonsburg; three brothers, Joe Lyon of Lexington, Michael Lyon of Purlear, North Carolina, Russell Lyon of Barboursville, West Virginia; one sister, Cara Lynn Hall of Allen; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 26, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel, with Joe McCoy, Gary Shepard and Don Grulich officiating.
