German Salisbury, 86, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, October 23, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center at Prestonsburg.
He was born January 24, 1914, at Hunter, the son of the late Milton and Ora Stumbo Salisbury. He was a retired coal miner and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Allie Joseph Salisbury.
Other survivors include his sister, Vina Nuckles of Prestonsburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 26, at 2 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Clifton (Buddy) Jones officiating.
Burial will be in the Joseph Cemetery, at Prestonsburg, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Arizona Cole Tackett
Arizona Cole Tackett, 71, of Melvin, died Friday, October 20, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born February 27, 1929, in Melvin, the daughter of the late Elbert Cole and Sarah Jane Caudill Cole.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Acie Tackett.
Survivors include three sons, Dale Tackett of Prestonsburg, Erick Tackett of Melvin, Jimmy Tackett of Clay City; five daughters, Charlene Dudek of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Alene Roof of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, Tyann Castle of Melvin, Glenda Shepherd of David, Teresa Turpin of Hudson, North Carolina; three brothers, Russell Cole and William McKinley Cole, both of Garrison, Estill Cole of Melvin; four sisters, Justeen Bentley and Vada Tackett, both of Garrison, Ada Thornsbury of Auxier, Naomi Braden of Monroe, Michigan; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 22, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Painter Harve Cemetery, Melvin, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Erick Tackett, Adam Tackett, Jeremy Shepherd, Chuck Bentley, Teddy Tackett, Butch Ward and Scott Cole.
Adam Thomas Burchett
Adam Thomas Burchett, 20, of Winchester, was fatally injured in an automobile accident, Sunday, October 22, 2000, in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he was a junior at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia, and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winchester.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Thomas and Cindra McNally Burchett.
Other survivors include one brother, Chase Burchett of Winchester; two sisters, Carlye Ann Burchett of Louisville, and Mary Elise Burchett of Winchester; maternal grandparents, Charles J. and Dordena McNally; paternal grandparents, Clyde and Eileen Burchett, all of Prestonsburg; maternal great-grandmother, Viola Black of London.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 26, 1 p.m., at the Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Lexington, with Rev. Ken Weibel, pastor of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Lexington, under the direction of Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester.
Pallbearers will be John, Mark and Andrew Burchett, Paul Weckman, Baxter Lee, David French, Laura Rompf and Tom Radcliffe; honorary, members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Washington & Lee University.
Delbert Rufus Rose
Delbert Rufus Rose, 79, of Garrett, died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at his residence.
He was born on August 10, 1921 in Freemont, Virginia, the son of the late John C. Rose and Eckie Kiser Rose. He was a retired electrician for Bailey Mining Company, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the United Mine Workers Local No. 9845.
Survivors include two sons, Roger J. Rose of Garrett, Rodney M. Rose of Langley; one daughter, Delana Rose of Prestonsburg; one brother, Jack Rose of Coeburn, Virginia; two sisters, Avanell Blevins of Coeburn, Virginia, Virgia Benachamp of Indiana; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 22, at 1 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Denzil Sexton officiating.
Burial was in the Elswick Cemetery, Pikeville, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were Cainer Hall, Robert Hall, David Hall, Larry Hall, R. B. Conn, Jeff Gibson, Lee Howard, Rodney Rose, Jason Baker, Byron Ring and Chuck Clark.
Alex Owsley
Alex Owsley, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Catlettsburg, died Monday, October 23, 2000, in Columbus.
Born on July 12, 1908, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ben and Betty Shepherd Owsley. He was a retired coal miner and attended the Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laudie Howard Owsley and his second wife, Ethel Sellards Owsley.
Survivors include one son, James H. Branham of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Elma Kendrick of Blue River; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 26, 1 p.m., at Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home, Catlettsburg, with Rev. Randy Doyle officiating.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland.
Larry Rowe
Larry Rowe, 52, of Weeksbury, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born on June 16, 1948, in Weeksbury, he was the son of Ruby Coleman Rowe of Melvin, and the late Auta Rowe. He was a disabled heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Gail Turner Rowe.
Other survivors include one son, Tommy Rowe of Melvin; three sisters, Merwonne Childers and Patricia Evanoff, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Dicy Kay Thornsberry of Melvin.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 21, at 2 p.m., at the Lonesome Pine Cemetery, at Weeksbury, with Pastor Roy Cosby officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Augestine Reynolds Cooper
Augestine Reynolds Cooper, of Ohio, formerly of Floyd County has died.
She was a member of the Forest Hill Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Beaumont, Laura McGuire, Gena Cooper-Klein; four sisters, Ella Ruth Hall, Billy Faye Finnitzer, Paulene Newsome, Loretta Hamilton; six brothers, Charles Reynolds, Wyndell Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, Ronny Reynolds, Glen Reynolds, Donny Reynolds; stepmother, Edith Reynolds and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, 12:30 p.m., at Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home, S. Euclid.
Interment was in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Ronnie (Fats) Crum
Ronnie (Fats) Crum, 54, of Martin, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, following an extended illness.
Born on February 25, 1946, in Martin, he was the son of the late James Bud Crum and Arebelle Prater Crum. He was a disabled laborer.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie James Crum of Coalinga, California; two daughters, Tonya Crum and Janelle Crum, both of Coalinga, California; five brothers, Glen Rose of Mishawaka, Indiana, Don Crum of Cannon, Georgia, Charles Crum of Banner, Russell Crum of Norwalk, Ohio, Larry Crum of Martin; one sister, Ola Jean Bartlett of Athens, Georgia; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 26, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Woodrow Crum and Bobby Dean Crum officiating.
Burial will be in the Samons Cemetery, Arkansas Creek, Martin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Stella Salsbury
Stella Salsbury, 70, of Harold, died Saturday, October 21, 2000, at Flatwoods.
Born on December 24, 1929, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Hall Akers and Robert Akers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Salsbury.
Survivors include two sons, James Franklin Salsbury of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jesse R. Salsbury of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one daughter, Dora Lee Kirk of Flatwoods; one stepdaughter, Sara Bell Stevens of Lorain, Ohio; three brothers, Jake Akers of Branham Creek, Curtis Akers of Betsy Layne, Roby Akers of Harold; one sister, Carly Sturgill of Harold; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 24, at 2 p.m., at the Boldman Freewill Baptist, with Arnold Belmont Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Bush Cemetery, Harold, under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.
