Patricia (Strawberry) Slone Burke, 23, of Bevinsville, died Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia, following a sudden illness.
Born on December 23, 1976, in Martin, she was the daughter of Ellis Slone of Bevinsville and the late Iona Gilliam Slone.
Survivors include two daughters, Alesha Danielle Burke and Jessica Cheyenne Slone, both of Bevinsville; five brothers, Craig Slone and Gregory Slone, both of Wheelwright, Ricky Slone of Teaberry, Gary Slone and Larry Slone, both of Bevinsville; four sisters, Barbara Terry of Martin, Marcella Howell of McDowell, Angela Lemasters and Teresa Triplett, both of Prestonsburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, at 1 p.m., at the Little Nancy Old Regular Baptist Church, Hi Hat, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist officiating.
Burial will be in the Matthew Tackett Cemetery, Melvin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Rayce Lee Vanderpool
Rayce Lee Vanderpool, 81, of Powell, Tennessee, died Monday, October 16, 2000, at his home.
He was born December 17, 1918, in Floyd County, the son of the late John and Laura Hall Vanderpool. He retired in 1983 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems/ Y-12 where he was an electrician. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army, attended First Baptist Church of Powell, was a 48-year member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756, member of the OES No. 390, the IBEW and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hill Vanderpool.
Other survivors include one son, Royce D. Vanderpool of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Janice "Vandy" Shake of Olney, Illinois; two sisters, Mavis Kohler and Magia Carver and Shirley Emory, both of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic services were conducted Wednesday, October 18, at 8 p.m., at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, led by members of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, October 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Philip Jones officiating and military honors were provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial services may be made to the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37909.

Phinetta Jones Evans
Phinetta Jones Evans, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at McDowell Appalachian Hospital.
Born in Grethel, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Malinda Brown Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hatler Evans.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald Keith Evans of Hudson, North Carolina, Timmy Evans and Byron Ryan Hatler Evans, both of Grethel; three daughters, Sharon Kay Evans Lowe of Moravian Fall, North Carolina, Karen Ranena Short and Tammy Lynn Howell, both of Grethel; eight sisters, Elizabeth Tackett of Ivel, Octavia Hall of Craynor, Stella Stumbo of Harold, Golda Mae DeRossett and Cosetta Newsome, both of Grethel, Mary Alice Newsome of Pike County, Verlie Hall of Clyde, Ohio, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Evans Family Cemetery, Grethel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Winnie Martin Wolfe
Winnie Martin Wolfe, 86, of Flatwoods, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at the Stanton Nursing Center, Stanton, following a long illness.
She was born February 15, 1914, in Mousie, the daughter of the late Tom Martin and Hester Amburgey Martin.
Survivors include three brothers, Hawley Martin of Flatwoods, James Martin of Franklin, Ohio, Richard Martin of Stanton; three sisters, Geneva Smith of Flatwoods, June Howard of Kenton, Ohio and Peggy Byrd of Middletown, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, at 10 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Winnie Martin Wolfe, were Jamie Martin, Corey Hall, Tim Byrd, James Martin, Richard Byrd and Richard Martin.
Burial will be in the Cooley Cemetery, Eastern, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Bill Boatwright
Bill Boatwright, 74, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at his residence.
He was born October 3, 1926, at Loving, New Mexico, the son of the late Audie and Bertha Shultz Boatwright. He was a truck driver with East Kentucky Explosives and a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hatfield Boatwright.
Other survivors include one son, Mark Boatwright of Prestonsburg; one brother, Jesse Boatwright of Carlsbad, New Mexico; two sisters, Ann Killough of Texaco, New Mexico and Margie Smith of Loving, New Mexico; three grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Campbell and Brother Curtis Hatfield officiating.
Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery, at Prestonsburg, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Norma Spears Stepp
Norma Spears Stepp, 92, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, October 15, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an long illness.
Born on March 6, 1908, on Johns Creek, she was the daughter of the late John Walker Spears and Nina McGuire Spears. She was a former teacher of the Floyd County Public Schools.
She was a member of the John Graham Chapter/Daughters of the American Revolution, Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 31 and chartered member of the Floyd County Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonah G. Stepp.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia S. Goble of Prestonsburg; one granddaughter, Sabrena J. Stepp of Prestonsburg; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 19, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Pauline Akers
Pauline Akers, 81, of Banner, died Friday, October 13, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 24, 1918, in Banner, the daughter of the late Elva L. Akers and Susan Weddington Akers. She was a retired beautician.
She is survived by one nephew, Jay Akers of Louisville.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 15, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with clergyman Don Crisp officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Eddie Akers, Larry Akers, Tim Ryan, Chris Ryan, Tommy R. Ryan and Tommy A. Ryan.
Carlos Johnson
Carlos Johnson, 60, of Elkhart, Indiana, died Friday, October 13, 2000, following a brief illness.
Born on June 23, 1940, in Melvin, he was the son of the late Greenbury Johnson and Alice Thornsbury Johnson. He was a member of the Willowdale Church of Christ in Elkhart.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis C. Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Barry E. Johnson, all of Elkhart; one daughter, Carla Rayner of LaGrange, Indiana; three sisters, Barbara Caudill and Ruby Huffman, both of Elkhart, Carol Tucker of Otisville, Michigan; five brothers, Grover Johnson of Walkerton, Indiana, James Johnson of Elkhart, Delno Johnson of Cassopolis, Michigan, Virgil Johnson of Bristol, Indiana, Sylvester Johnson of Jones, Michigan, and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 16, at the Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart, with Ray Caudill of Central Church of Christ in Plymouth, Indiana, officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart.
Alvin Chester Music
Alvin Chester Music, 74, of Auxier, died Tuesday, October 10, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born February 20, 1926, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late George W. Music and Elizabeth Rice Music. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Emogene Webb Music.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenny Music of Ashland, Gary Music of East Point; one daughter, Jeannie Maggard of Hager Hill; one brother, Jack Music of Auxier; three sisters, Clara Robinson of Auxier, Irene Kruchko of Casey City, Michigan, and Brenda Joyce Gilber of Fairborn, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 13, at 11 a.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dave Flanery officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
