Bill (Buck) Jarrell, age 28 of Prestonsburg, Ky. died Friday, October 6, 2000, at Daniels Creek. He was born on September 4, 1972, in Pikeville, Ky. He was the son of Billy Ray Jarrell of Paintsville and Glaida Park Erickson of Indiana. He was a self-employeed construction worker.
Survivors included wife Amanda Kaye Hall Jarrell; two brothers, Anthony Ray Jarrell of Paintsville and John Courtney Jarrell of Indiana; four sisters, Lora Baker of Indiana, Donna McQueen of Indiana, Mary Lynn Jarrell of Indiana and Melissa Jarrell of Indiana.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 9, at 12 noon at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home with Tracy Patton officiating. Burial will be in the Jarrell Family Cemetery at Cow Creek.
Visitation will be at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home after 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2000.
Ellis V. Martin
Ellis V. Martin, age 102, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, husband of the late Virda Martin, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
He was born December 28, 1897, in Dema, Kentucky, the son of the late Marion Martin and Evelyn Hall Martin. Mr. Martin held various jobs. He was a merchant, and then he worked in the coal business for Starr Elkhorn and Edgemont Fuel in the McDowell-Minnie area. He taught in Knott County for a short time, was elected in 1949 for two consecutive terms as magistrate representing Left Beaver. He served as trial commissioner for Judge Harold Stumbo in Floyd County District Court. He was an Honorary Colonel of the State Police, a State Mine Inspector, a heavy weight truck limit inspector, and a member of the Allen Baptist Church, Allen, Kentucky.
Survivors include one son, Wendell L. Martin and his wife, Sue Martin of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Christine Stewart and her husband Revella Stewart of McDowell, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, Larry Stewart, Dean Stewart, Judy LeMaster, Sharon Blair, Patricia Childers, Stevie Martin, Sherry Wells, Benjie Stewart, Dr. David Martin and Tim Martin, 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ellis Martin Jr., Johnny Martin; one daughter, Anna Rose Little, and one grandson, Duane Little.
Funeral services for Ellis V. Martin will be conducted Friday, October 6, 2000, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Kentucky, with the clergymen Arnold Turner Jr., Ted Shannon and Woody Pack, Woodrow Dye, Ersel Huff, and Clifford Williams officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Ellis V. Martin were Tim Martin, Dr. David Martin, Benjie Stewart, Truman Blair, Wally Cook and Nathan Wright.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Stewart, Dean Stewart, Stevie Martin, Wendell Childers, Ricky Stewart, Jeff Little, Shaun Little, Shane Blair, Revella Stewart and Milton Little.
Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, Kentucky, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
Deleary Waddles Bryant
Deleary Waddles Bryant, age 89, of Martin, Kentucky, widow of Hillard L. Bryant, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at her residence in Martin, Kentucky, following a long illness.
She was born April 21, 1911, in Kite, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Thomas "Babe" Waddles and Lula Beverly Waddles. Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker and a member of the Little Nancy Regular Baptist Church, Hi Hat, Kentucky.
Survivors include four sons, Ed Bryant of Martin, Kentucky, Charles Bryant of Albion, Michigan, Bill Bryant and Michael Keith Bryant, both of Kendallville, Indiana; two daughters, Jeanette Hall of Martin, Kentucky, Geneva Mosley of Kendallville, Indiana; one brother, Tom Waddles of Topmost, Kentucky; 32 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Raymond Bryant, Fred Bryant, Earl Bryant, and Sidney Thomas Bryant
Funeral services for Deleary Waddles Bryant were conducted Saturday, September 23, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. at the Little Nancy Regular Baptist Church at Hi Hat, Kentucky, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial followed in the Newman Cemetery, Hi Hat, Kentucky, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, at the funeral home and after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
Pallbearers: Byron Coburn, Dale Bryant, Michael Bryant, Allen Bryant, Tony Bryant, Todd Bryant, Brandon Bryant, James Bryant, Paul Bryant, and Gary Bryant.
Linda Gail Brown
Linda Gail Brown, 54, of Ligon, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on February 7, 1946, in Ligon, she was the daughter of the late Ballard and Dessie May Horn. She was a member of the Ligon Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Brown.
Survivors include one step-son, Christopher Todd Brown of Litchfield, Michigan; one daughter, Heather Michelle Brown of Beaver; two brothers, Earl Allen Horn of Wayne, Michigan, Larry Horn of Elkton, Virginia; three sisters, Bonnie Young of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda Slone of Ligon, Rehea Rowe of Richmond and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 7, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery, Ligon, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Dr. Ralph Hall
Dr. Ralph Hall, 86, of Mount Dora, Florida, formerly of Floyd County, died Tuesday, October 3, 2000, in Florida.
He was born July 7, 1914, in Beaver Creek, the son of the late Charles Edgerton Allen and Maggie Webb Allen. He was a former physician in Pikeville, a member of the First Baptist Church, Mount Dora, Florida, and was a World War II Veteran, U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gelnia Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Bales Allen; one son, Ralph Hughes Allen of Winter Springs, Florida; one daughter, Susan Pope of Altamonte Springs, Florida; two brothers, William Allen of Lexington, Robert Allen of Mt. Vermon, Illinois, and several step-children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were conducted at the Allen Family Cemetery, Eastern, with clergyman Dan Heintzelman officiating, under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Walter Cecil Webster
Walter Cecil Webster, 69, of Owenton, died Thursday, September 21, 2000, at his residence.
Born on January 14, 1931, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Archie Webster and Adele Lusby Webster. He was a farm worker.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Woodyard Webster.
Other survivors include two sons, Roy Lawrence Webster of Owenton and Ricky Allen Webster of Warsaw; one daughter, Shirley Marie Brumback of Owenton; three sisters, Hannah Hammonds of Owenton, Sylvia Woodward of Covington, Linda Carol Jefferson of Prestonsburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 25, at 11 a.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton, with Rev. David Wotier officiating.
Burial was in the Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of McDonald Funeral Homes Inc.
Avanell R. Miller
Avanell R. Miller, 64, of Hindman, died Saturday, September 30, 2000, at the Hazard Nursing Home.
Born on August 11, 1936, in Knott County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Ramey and Lorene Terry Ramey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hensley Miller.
She is survived by her stepmother, Elsie Ramey.
Other survivors include one son, Donnie Miller of Illinois; three sisters, Elveta Peneschi of Auxier, Pauline Ray of Mississippi and Alma Campbell of Williamsburg; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 2, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, with Darrell Short officiating.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Chicago, Illinois, under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.
Ralph Graham Reynolds
Ralph Graham Reynolds, 76, of Martin, died Friday, September 29, 2000, in the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, followng an extended illness.
Born on February 11, 1924, in Martin, he was the son of the late William J. Reynolds and Rebecca Mayo Reynolds. He was a retired Columbia Gas Transmission employee, a member of the Church of Christ, at Martin, and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Billy and Jim Reynolds, both of Martin; five daughters, Peggy Thompson of Flatwoods, Becky Green, Nancy Mayo and Mickey Dingus, all of Martin, Alice Clark of Ashland; one sister, Alice Allen of Prestonsburg, 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 2, at noon, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Randolph Crisp, officiating.
Burial was in the Osborne Cemetery, Martin, under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bobby Dingus, Ricky "Sam" Green, Jim Reynolds II, Shannon Rogers, Nick Jackson, Jamie Spurlock and Charlie Justice.
Honorary pallbearers were Steven Jenkins, Jim Recktenwald, Rick Green, James Thompson, Dennis Mayo and Dave Clark.
Hallie Justice Hager
Hallie Justice Hager, 90, of David, died Monday, October 2, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born on June 6, 1910, at Crown, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Lester Justice. She was a member of the Middle Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Day Hager.
She is survived by three sons, Charles E. Hager of David, James E. Hager of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Ronald L. Hager of Prestonsburg; four daughters, Catherine Prater of Bradenton, Florida, Shirlee Ann Branham of Prestonsburg, Clara Jean Hager of Lexington and Rose Ellen Wells of Mount Orab, Ohio; one brother, Cecil Justice of Greenville, West Virginia, 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 5, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with the Rev. Vernon Slone officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
