Cora Hamilton, 85, of Teaberry, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on August 14, 1914, in Teaberry, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Liza Jane Reynolds Hamilton. She was retired from Hamilton's Grocery which she owned and operated for years.
She was a member of the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mackie Hamilton.
Survivors include one son, Charles Edward Hamilton of Teaberry; one daughter, Wilma Hall of Teaberry; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, Teaberry, with ministers of Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Thomas Hamilton Cemetery, at Teaberry, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
John D. "Poppy" Hamilton
John D. "Poppy" Hamilton, 91, of Teaberry, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born on February 14, 1909, in Teaberry, he was the son of the late Thomas Hamilton and Lizza Jane Reynolds Hamilton. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Hamilton.
Other survivors include seven sons, Alford Hamilton of Elkton Maryland, Ira B. Hamilton of Dayton, Ohio, Andy Lee Hamilton, Glenn Hamilton, and Rexal Hamilton, all of Teaberry, Thomas Hamilton of Craynor, Carter Hamilton of Frankfort; four daughters, Alpha Donnellan and Rosie Brown, both of Teaberry, Eva Voshell and Dixie Slone, both of Elkton, Maryland, 36 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m., at the Samaria Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of John D. "Poppy" Hamilton were Don Hamilton, Darrell Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Nathan Slone, Victor Voshell, Brandon Blake, Ed Lofthouse and Earl Lofthouse.
Burial will be in the Thomas Hamilton Cemetery, at Teaberry, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Ty Samuel Blankenship
Ty Samuel Blankenship, 20, of Melvin, died Friday, July 7, at his residence.
Born on December 25, 1979 in Martin, he was the son of Sandea Tackett of Elsmere and the late Carlos Blankenship. He was a college student.
Other than his mother, he is survived by one sister, Tanesha Enjoli Blankenship, of Elsmere; maternal grandparents, Lester and Audrey Newsome Tackett of Melvin.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 10, at noon at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church.
Entombment was in the Hensley Cemetery, at Melvin.
Mae Shepherd
Mae Shepherd, 90, of Garrett, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Riverview Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Born on February 4, 1910, in Garett, she was the daughter of the late Woots and Rousie Howard Coburn. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Shepherd.
Survivors include three sons, Clyde Shepherd of Gunlock, Vernal Shepherd of Salyersville, Truman Shepherd of Prestonsburg; one brother, Frank Coburn of Garrett; three sisters, Polly Howard and Margaret Conley, both of Garrett, Myrtle Chaffins of Prestonsburg; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m., at the Stone Coal Old Regular Baptist Church, Garrett, with Elders Roger Hicks, Kermit Newsome, and Raymond Lawson officiating.
Burial will be in the Coburn Cemetery, at Garrett, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Howard B. "Sonny" Hicks
Howard B. "Sonny" Hicks, 59, of Kendallville, Indiana, formerly of Hueysville, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Extendacare Nursing Home, Kendallville.
Born on July 26, 1940, in Hippo, he was the son of the late Oscar Hicks and Emma Faulkner. He was a factory worker at International Harvester, a former owner of Gold Mines Jewelry Store, Prestonsburg, and a member of the Community Baptist Church of Wolcottville.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Hicks.
Other survivors include three sisters, Faye Fraley of Eastern, Virginia Hughes of Hueysville, Pearl Hicks of Floyd County; four brothers, Charlie Hicks, Johnny Hicks, and Paul Faulkner, all of Hippo and Bill Hicks of Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 11, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Red Morris officiating.
Burial was in the Hicks Cemetery, at Hippo, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Wallace, Brian Wallace, Michael Faulkner, Kenny Wallace, Ritchie Fraley and Cletis Crager.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Wallace, Paul Faulkner, Harold Fraley, Frank Wallace, Harry Wallace, Eddie Fraley and Bill Brown.
Green Hall Jr.
Green Hall Jr., 53, of Galveston, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in Betsy Layne.
Born on November 22, 1946, in Galveston, he was the son of the late George Hall and Ruth Rogers Hall. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra Faye Watson Hall.
Other survivors include two daughters, Lenora Hall of Galveston, Jena Rayna Hall of Lexington; one brother, James Arthur Hall of Galveston; one sister, Leadene Cocanougher of Lexington; five half-brothers, Carter Hall of Pikeville, William Lynn Hall, Joe Hall, Bob Hall and Kenny Hall, all of Galveston; five half-sisters, Jackie Hall, Faye Hall, Loretta Hall, Wanda Hall and Eloise Hall, all of Galveston; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 10, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Dwayne Jarrell officiating.
Burial was in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery, at Galveston, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were Garnett Cocanougher, Jimmy Hammond, Eddie Hall, Ricky Newsome, Alan Hill, and Scottie Watson.
Charles Edward Blankenship
Charles Edward Blankenship, 71, of Pikeville, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born on December 14, 1928, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ella Roxie Fife and Ernest Blankenship. He was a miner and was affiliated with the Church of Christ, and was a WWII veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Lowe Blankenship.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Blake Blankenship of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Charles Jeffrey Blankenship of Raccoon; one brother, Duran Blankenship of Joe's Creek; one sister, Betty King of Millers Creek; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 13, at 1 p.m., at the J.W. Call Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home.
Lona Hicks Duff
Lona Hicks Duff, 86, of Eastern, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born February 17, 1914, at Hippo, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Mary Ellen Bailey Hicks. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Duff.
Survivors include a son, Carl E. Duff of Eastern, a sister, Susanna Hall of Atlanta, Georgia; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are today, Sunday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Jerry Manns, Bethel Bolen, Wilson Slone and Buddy Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Hicks Cemetery at Hippo.
Andrew J. Wright
Andrew J. Wright, 86, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
A son of the late Roy and Hariett Burchett Wright, he was born August 9, 1913, at Water Gap. He was a retired inspector for Bethlehem Steel Company and a former school teacher with the Floyd County School System. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine McGinness Wright; six daughters, Iris Jean Shaw and Charlotte Rose Nye, both of Prestonsburg, Andrea Leah Twele of Crownsville, Maryland, Pamelia Louise Decker of Eastern Shore, Maryland, Teresa Marlene Hogan of Arlington, Texas, and Janna Carmen Burkhardt of Eldersburg, Maryland.
Also surviving are three half-brothers, Bud Wright of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Wade Wright and John Wright, both also of Ohio; three half-sisters, Nora Smith and Juanita Fresch, both of Sandusky, Ohio, Garnet Mauk of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 8, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Tackett officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnson County.
