Helen Maria Jarrell, 34, of Slick Rock, Prestonsburg, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Cow Creek, following a sudden illness.
Born on November 19, 1965, in Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of Woodrow and Janie Crum Jarrell of Prestonsburg. She was self-employed at Lawn Maid Yard Service.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Jarrell.
Other survivors include one son, Daniel Ray Jarrell of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Kellie Nichole Jarrell of Prestonsburg; four brothers, James Edward Jarrell, Woodrow Jarrell Jr., Ercel Jarrell and Jackie Lee Jarrell, all of Prestonsburg; four sisters, JoAnn Goble, Linnie McKinney and Crystal Lynn Jarrell, all of Prestonsburg, and Janie Ann Blanton of Morgan County.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 22, at 1 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Bill Collins and Gordon Fitch officiating.
Burial will be in the Jarrell Family Cemetery, at Slick Rock, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Eugene Jarrell
Eugene Jarrell, 78, of Clair, Michigan, formerly of Cow Creek, Prestonsburg, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born on June 18, 1922, in Cow Creek, Prestonsburg, he was the son of the late Bill "Willie" and Victoria Riddle Jarrell. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Martin House of Worship.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Jarrell.
Survivors include one son, Grady Jarrell of Albion, Michigan; two daugthers, Lucy Conn of Clair, Michigan, Charity Rice of Auxier; two brothers, Lonnie Jarrell of Slick Rock, Prestonsburg, Adrian Jarrell of Dwale; two sisters, Louella Branham of Ashland, Lola Boyd of Slick Rock, Prestonsburg; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 31, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Mark Milloni officiating.
Burial is in the Jarrell Cemetery, Slick Rock, Prestonsburg, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Delbert Glen Salyers
Delbert Glen Salyers, 55, of LaPorte, Texas, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his residence.
He was born on October 2, 1944, at Martin. He graduated from Maytown High School in 1963 and from Mayo Vocational School in 1965. He was also a long time resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was employed by Olin, Thurston Truck Lines, Southwest Motor Freight, and Mason Dixon.
He moved to the Houston area in 1978 with Mason Dixon and was employed by Air Liquide (formerly Big 3) since the early 1980s.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Salyers.
Other survivors include his mother, Goldie Salyers of Eastern; three sisters, Reba McClanan of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brenda Newman of Derby, England, and Velinda Salyers of Pasadena, Texas; three brothers, Keith Salyers, Colby Salyers and Bruce Salyers, all of Eastern.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 7, in LaPorte, Texas.
Rebecca Porter
Rebecca Porter, 74, of Dwale, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born on August 18, 1925, at Allen, she was the daughter of the late Jeff and Susie Robinson Crisp. She was a retired nurse, formerly employed by the Beaver Valley Hospital at Martin, and was a member of the United Methodist Church at Allen.
She is survived by five sons, William Norris and Chris Porter, both of Prestonsburg, Ronald Lee Porter of Sugar Loaf, John Porter of Dwale and Billy Darrell Porter of Lexington; one daughter, Palma Sue Porter of Prestonsburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 28, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Howard officiating.
Burial will be in the Old Dwale Cemetery, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Lizzie Watkins Ross
Lizzie Watkins Ross, 88, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on February 19, 1912, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie Perkins Watkins.
She attended the Pentecostal Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie Ross.
Survivors include two sisters, Rosanna Collins Rinker and Margarine Watkins, both of Prestonsburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 29, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Kelly Prater, Ellis Stephens and Taulbee Goodman officiating.
Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Middle Creek, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Sadie Blankenship
Sadie Blankenship, 87, of Taylor, Michigan, formerly of Floyd County, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Heritage Hospital, Taylor, Michigan, following an extended illness.
Born on February 10, 1913, in Teaberry, she was the daughter of the late German and Mindy Newsome Hamilton. She was a member of the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Blankenship.
Survivors include two sons, Foster Blankenship of Teaberry, Roger Lee Blankenship of Taylor, Michigan; one daughter, Fannie Story of Taylor, Michigan; three brothers, John Hamilton and Clifford Hamilton, both of Teaberry, and Kenis Hamilton of Florida; one sister, Sarah Hamilton of Teaberry, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 31, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be at the church, after 2 p.m., Saturday.
Burial will be in the Hamilton Cemetery, at Teaberry, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Charles Evans Centers
Charles Evans Centers, 61, of Hueysville, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, in the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center, Lexington.
Born on May 10, 1939, in Hueysville, he was the son of the late Burnie Centers and Effie Allen Centers. He was a retired coal mine safety inspector for National Mines Corporation, a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 128, Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Davis Centers.
Survivors include one son, Charles E. Centers Jr. of Hueysville; one brother, Robert Gerald Centers of Chillicothe, Ohio; three sisters, Patricia Hacker of Waverly, Ohio, Brenda Rice of Price and Donna Cole of Lexington.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 25, at 11 a.m., at the Hueysville Church of Christ, with the clergyman, Chester Ray Varney, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Charles Centers were Paul David Centers, Brandon Click, Russell Cole, Charles Ratliff, Ermil Reffitt, Frank Reffett, Jerry Rice and Jeff Rice.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Centers, Don Hacker, Wayne Hacker, Fausto O'Larte, Jimmy Turner, Tony Scott, Doug Rice, Steve Layne and Corey Click.
Burial was in the Centers Family Cemetery, Hueysville, under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Ballard Fannin
Ballard Fannin, 50, of Cow Creek, Allen, died Monday, July 24, at VA Medical Center, Lexington, following an extended illness.
Born on June 11, 1950, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late John and Virgie Burchett Fannin. He was a disabled miner and mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Woods Fannin.
Other survivors include one son, Ronnie J. Fannin of Allen; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Frasure of Hueysville; two brothers, Charles Fannin and Grover Fannin, both of Prestonsburg; eight sisters, Mary Rose, Linda Alice Jarvis, and Hattie Jarrell, all of Prestonsburg, Edna Faye Farmer of Homer, Michigan, Dorothy McCloud, Lou Ellen Strait, and Sarah Endicott all of Jackson, Michigan, Jean Pruitt of Arkansas; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 25, at 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with George David Garrett and Gordon Fitch officiating.
Julius Little
Julius Little, 57, of River Rouge, Michigan, formerly of Bypro, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Wyandotte, Michigan.
Born on April 22, 1943, in Bypro, he was the son of the late Crit Little and Bertha McCown Little Thompson. He was a forklift operator.
Survivors include one daughter, Penny Little of New York; three brothers, Elmer Hall of Martin, William L. Hall of Ashland, Roy Little of Ironton, Ohio; three sisters, Georgene Bartlett of Penacook, New Hampshire, Mary Kay Holmes of Concord, New Hampshire, and Marie Daiver of Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 27, at noon, at the Joppa Regular Baptist Church, at Melvin, with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Matthew Tacket Cemetery, at Melvin, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
