Bert Birchfield, 65, of Titusville, Florida, formerly of Dwale, died Wednesday, July 12, in Florida.
Born on December 31, 1934, in Wilbur, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James and Ethel Grant Birchfield. He was a retired carpenter superintendent, an Army veteran of Korean conflict, and a member of the Brush Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Birchfield.
Other survivors include one son, James K. Birchfield of San Diego, California; two daughters, Bonnie J. Freni of Winter Springs, Florida, Sandra Rosche of Titusville, Florida; two brothers, Danni K. Birchfield of Lavergne, Tennessee, Phillip Birchfield of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one sister, Anne Daniels of Montgomery, Alabama; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 15, at noon, at the Brush Arbor Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida, with pastor Jerry Creel officiating.
Cremation was under the direction of Union Park Memorial Chapel.

James Marion Slone
James Marion Slone, 90, of Saint Mary's Ohio, formerly of Knott County, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 7, 1910, in Leburn, he was the son of the late William and Oma Slone. He retired as a factory worker for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in 1971, and was a member of the Mt. Olive Old Regular Baptist Church, Pippa Passes.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Allen Slone.
Other survivors include three sons, Glen Slone of Hollybush, Arthur Slone of Lexington, Charles Slone Fairchild of Raven; one daughter, Betty Slone of Saint Mary's Ohio; 38 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m., at the Mt. Olive Old Regular Baptist Church, Pippa Passes, with Keith Sparkman, Clyde Jacobs, and Emmit Slone officiating.
Burial will be in the Isom Slone Cemetery, Pippa Passes, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Peggy T. Harris Daniels
Peggy T. Harris Daniels, 72, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Born on September 15, 1927, at Emma, she was the daughter of the late Joe W. and Madge Burchett Harris. She was a retired production inspector with General Motors.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Warren of Ypsilanti, Michigan; one brother, Joe W. Harris of Prestonsburg; one sister, Betty Keathley of Prestonsburg, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Evangelist Bennie Blankenship officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.
Frank Tackett
Frank Tackett, 47, of Thealka, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
Born on February 13, 1953, in Johnson County, he was the son of Harvey Tackett and Emma Jean Vanhoose.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Smith Tackett, of Thealka.
Other survivors include one son, Frank Eugene Tackett of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Jessica Marie Tackett and Patricia Lynn Tackett, both of Thealka; one brother, Manuel Tackett of Oil Springs; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 11, at 11 a.m., at the Thelka Freewill Baptist Church, with George Conley and Don Fraley officiating.
Burial was in the Ratliff Cemetery, Paintsville, under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Hager Hill.
Garland Lee Rogers Sr.
Garland Lee Rogers Sr., 48, of Betsy Layne, died Sunday, August 27, 2000, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital emergency room, following an automobile accident.
Born on June 7, 1952, in Pikeville, he was the son of Tanie Spears Rogers of Harold, and the late Curtis Rogers. He was a disabled coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Betty Bradley Rogers.
Other survivors include one son, Gerald Rogers Jr. of Harold; two daughters Melissa DeBoard of Hurricane, Pat Kingsley of David; two step-daughters, Tanya Bradley and Patty Bennett, both of Harold; six brothers, Terry Rogers of Virgie, Larmen Rogers, Dale Rogers, Danny Rogers, Randy Rogers, and Timmy Rogers, all of Harold; two sisters, Bonnie Newsome and Sharon Rogers, both of Harold; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 30, at 2 p.m., at the Mothers Home Old Regular Baptist Church, at Harold, with Russell Jacobs and others officiating.
Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery, Toler Creek, Harold, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
James Ed Stambaugh
James Ed Stambaugh, 81, of Brush Creek, Hueysville, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at the Martin County Health Care Center, Inez.
He was born February 11, 1919, in Johnson County, the son of the late Phillip Stambaugh and Virginia Cordial Stambaugh. He was a retired employee of Inland Gas Company, and was a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Salyer Stambaugh.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Lafferty of Paintsville; one grandchild, one great-grandchild, and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 30, at 11 a.m., at the Hueysville Church of Christ, with Church of Christ ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Milton Prater Cemetery, at Hueysville, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of James Ed Stambaugh were Scott Lafferty, Jamie Shepherd, Bryan Lafferty, Danny O'Quinn, Bob Castle, Paul David Rice and Frank Reffett.
Josephine Ellis Howard
Josephine Ellis Howard, 84, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born on October 4, 1915, at Water Gap, she was the daughter of the late Parmer Tilden and Laura Belle Lafferty Ellis. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a deacon and elder for many years, a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Howard.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Ann Howard Carter of Prestonsburg; three sons, O.R. "Pete" Howard of Prestonsburg, Tim Howard of Auxier, Jim Howard of Prestonsburg; two sisters, June Gearheart and Isabell Spotte, both of Prestonsburg; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 29, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Prestonsburg, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Interment was in the Mayo Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers were Alan Carter Roberts, Peter Howard, James Howard II, James Carter III, Jonathan Goble, Ron Slone, Tommy Poe and Scott Kidd.
Honorary pallbearers were Orville Cooley, Jim Goble, Frank Heinze, Tim Jessen, Bob Hughes, Marvin Music Jr., Freddie Goble, Bob Perry, Will Kendrick and John Everly.
