Jewell D. Pratt
Jewell D. Pratt, 53, of South Whiley, Indiana, died Wednesday, November 22, 2000, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted on Tuesday. She had been in failing health for the past seven years.
She was born May 15, 1947, in Allen, the daughter of Tommie and Ola Hamilton Carr. She attended school in Allen and graduated from Betsy Layne High School. She was employed at Seamco Fiber Form and Stumps.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth R. Pratt.
Other survivors include two sons, Richard Chad Pratt and Rodney Pratt; one daughter, Jennifer Renee Krider; and two grandchildren, all of South Whitley.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 26, at 2 p.m., at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with Rev. Barry Faucett officiating.
Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery, under the direction of Smith and Sons Miller Chapel.

Norma Ratliff Reed
Norma Ratliff Reed, 77, of Elkhorn City died Friday, November 24, 2000 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was born October 23, 1923, in Pike County to Richard “Dick” Ratliff and Mary Bray Ratliff. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elkhorn City United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Reed.
Survivors include one son, Harold Mark Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Dale Ratliff of Elkhorn City; and four grandchildren, Olivia Ann Reed, Samuel Charles Reed, Caleb Mark Reed and William Harold Reed.
Visitation will take place Monday after 2 p.m. at the Elkhorn City United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, at the Elkhorn City United Methodist Church under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Park in Pikeville.
Charles V. Hughes Sr.
Charles V. Hughes Sr., 63, of Mt. Cory, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at his residence.
Born on July 1, 1937, in Prestonsburg, he was the son of the late Kelly and Rhoda (McQuire) Hughes. He was retired from Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Jean Miller.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles V. Hughes Jr. of Bluffton, Ohio, Chad Eugene Hughes of Mt. Cory, Ohio; three daughters, Juanita K. Fitzpatrick of Tomahawk, Emma Jean Hofferbert of Cridersville, Ohio, LouAnn Deitsch of Bluffton, Ohio; one sister, Emma Goodman of Prestonsburg; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 26, 2 p.m., at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, Ohio, with Rev. Mike VanDenEynde.
Burial will be in the Knollcrest Gardens, East of Findlay, Ohio, under the direction of Coldren-Crates Funeral Home.
Jerry Hall Mitchell
Jerry Hall Mitchell, 66, of Hi Hat, died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born on March 4, 1934, in Beaver, he was the son of the late Hillard and Dacie Hall Mitchell. He was a retired bus driver.
Survivors include two sons, Derek Mitchell of Belton, Texas, Billy Mitchell of Spokane, Washington; six brothers, Philman Mitchell of Hi Hat, Forrest Mitchell and Smitty Joe Mitchell, both of Pikeville, Roy Mitchell of Milan, Michigan, James Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio, Jackie Mitchell of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Alberta Hamilton of Hi Hat, Ida Mitchell of Dearborn, Michigan and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 27, at 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery, Bevinsville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Laura Martin
Laura Martin, 67, of Mousie, died Tuesday, November 20, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
Born on December 31, 1932 in Knott County, she was the daughter of Melvina Slone of Knott County and the late Dan Slone. She was a retired maintenance worker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Martin.
Survivors include one son, James Daniel Martin of Mousie; one daughter, Della Martin of Hindman; three brothers, Willie Slone of Tennessee, Carson Slone of Indiana and Ollie Slone of Ohio; three sisters, Nancy Childers and Lettie Sexton, both of Garner, Lauda Conley of Knott County and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 25, at 1 p.m., at the Mt. Olive Old Regular Baptist Church, Pippa Passes, with Clyde Jacobs and other ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Family Cemetery, at Garner, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Perlis D. Akers
Perlis D. Akers, 71, of Marion, North Carolina, formerly of Dana, died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at McDowell Hospital in Marion, North Carolina, following an extended illness.
Born on May 25, 1929, in Dana, he was the son of the late Emine Pearl Akers and Cynthia Jarrell Akers. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include three sons, Clayton Akers of Dana, Timothy Akers of New York, Ricky Akers of New York; three daughters, Marsha Akers of Banner, Charlene Bricker of Almont, Michigan, Charmae Akers of New York; two brothers, Clevert Akers of Dana, Thurman Akers of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Lettie Mae Osborne of Banner; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Audrey Frye
Audrey Frye, 74, of Lexington, formerly of Martin, died Saturday, November 18, 2000, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born on September 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Prater and Ann Prater Ousley Hall.
She is survived by her husband, Haskel Frye Jr.
Other survivors include one son, Buddy Frye of Nippa; one daughter, Tobye Frye Kelley of Lexington, and two grandchildren.

Bill Paige
Bill Paige, 84, of Beaver, died Friday, November 17, 2000, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born on October 16, 1916, in Knott County, he was the son of the late Doke and Alice Hall Paige. He was a retired coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ocie Tackett Paige.
Survivors include two sons, Kermit Paige of Hi Hat, Luther Paige of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Tilda Newsome of Loraine, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 20, at 1 p.m., at the Church of God of Prophecy, at Ligon, with Ralph Hall officiating.
Burial was in the Elliott Cemetery, Tackett Fork, at Beaver, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
