Dean E. Mullins, 40, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, formerly of Floyd County, died Wednesday, November 15, 2000, in Wisconsin.
He was born October 31, 1960, in Floyd County, the son of the late Denver Ousley and Olabe Mullins Johnson. He was a mechanic for the Milwaukee Post Office working in the vehicle maintenance facility and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Karen H. Folzenloben Mullins.
Other survivors include two sons, Bryan Mullins and Christopher Mullins both of Waukesha, Wisconsin; one sister, Daisy Morrison of Auxier; two half-sisters, Denise May and Tammy Stanley both of Prestonsburg; two half-brothers, Hasadore Ousley of Lexington, and Denver Ousley of Martin.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 20, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the Rev. Johnnie E. Ross officiating.
Burial was in the Hale Cemetery, Martin, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Dwayne Mullins, Larry Mullins, Don King, Joshua Stanley, Richard Price and Denver Ousley.
Faye M. Ratliff Gilliam
Faye M. Ratliff Gilliam, 85, of Cowpen Road, died Sunday, November 19, 2000, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born in Pike County, December 6, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Alley Ratliff and James R. Ratliff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gilliam.
She was a member of the Vogel-Day United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Grace Mullins of Pikeville, Ernestine Borella of Silver Springs, Florida; two brothers, Bennie Ratliff of Rineyville, Tommy Ratliff of Southgate, Michigan; six sisters, Zenith Hamilton, Lois Kennard, Cresia Hamilton, and Elizabeth Jordan, all of Pikeville, Mary Jo Jerzakowski of South Bend and Alice Garrett of Harold; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 22, 1 p.m., at the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Ratliff Cemetery, Pikeville, under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home, with Dennis Love officiating.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Nichols, Dale Hamilton, Scott Mullins, Gregory Kennard, Charles Powell and Bob Hobson.
Harry Hall
Harry Hall, 83, of Betsy Layne, died Saturday, November 18, 2000, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born on October 1, 1917, at Honaker, Little Mud Creek, he was the son of the late Elijia and Mary Belle Harvey Hall. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Honaker Church of Christ.
His wife, Agnes Risner Hall preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Ted Hall of Monroe, Michigan, Terry Hall and Tommy Hall, both of Little Mud Creek; two daughters, Dottie Hall of Betsy Layne, and Arda Kidd of Honaker; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 21, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Junior Kidd officiating.
Burial was in the Hall and Risner Cemetery, Little Mud Creek, under direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Travis Hall, Adam Hall, Gregory Kidd, Kenny Hall, James Hall, Randy Hall, Barry Hall, Timothy Hall, Gary Bentley, Cody Hall and Bobby Carter.
John Melvin Hall
John Melvin (Little John) Hall Jr., 60, of Bypro, died Sunday, November 19, 2000, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born on June 1, 1940, in Wheelwright, he was the son of the late John Melvin and Connie Little Hall. He was a retired owner of Trojan Restaurant and Arcade.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqualine Branham Hall.
Survivors include one son, John M. Hall III of Wheelwright; two daughters, Kay Berger of Lexington of North Carolina, Deborah Thornsbury of Wheelwright; two brothers, Russell Lee Hall of Hurrican Creek, James Bailey Hall of Lexington; two sisters, Barbara Woods of Pikeville, Hazel Marlene Obroff of Ohio; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 22, at 11 a.m., at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Louis Ferrari and Jim Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Hall and Little Cemetery, Wheelwright, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Keith Alan Kassee
Keith Alan Kassee, 15, of Fisty, died Sunday, November 19, 2000, in Carrie, after a sudden illness.
Born on June 22, 1985, in Prestonsburg, he was the son of Keith and Tena Yeary Kassee. He was a tenth-grade student at Knott County Central High School. He was a member of the Knott County Patriots Football Team.
Survivors, other than his parents, include his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Sally Patrick Kassee of Emmalena; maternal grandparents, Earl D. Yeary of Vest, and the late Charlotte Smith Yeary; paternal great-grandmther, Rosa Smith of Carrie; maternal great-grandcmother, Myrtle Combs Smith of Hazard; one brother, Zachary Anderson Kassee of Fisty.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 22, at 11 a.m., at the Clear Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, at Fisty, with Jessie Hagans, Claren Williams and Silas Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Kassee Family Cemetery, at Fisty, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Kerry Gene “Jitter” Stumbo
Kerry Gene “Jitter” Stumbo, 54, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Betsy Layne, died Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at his residence, following a brief illness.
Born on August 23, 1946, in Betsy Layne, he was the son of the late Perry and Lela Stumbo and Dixie Stumbo May. He was a self-employed automobile dealer.
Survivors include one daughter, Kerry Deon Stumbo Rivera of Allen Park, Michigan; five brothers, Perry Stumbo Jr. of Snellville, Georgia, Carl Leo Stumbo of Pikeville, James Francis “Slugger” Stumbo of Belleville, Michigan, Charles Graham May of Allen, David May of Allen; one sister, Judy Stumbo Meade of Martin; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, November 25, at 6 p.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church, Betsy Layne, with Doug Lewis officiating.

Peggy J. Fife
Peggy J. Fife, 63, of Wabash, Indiana, died Sunday, November 19, 2000, at her residence.
Born on November 25, 1936, in Van Lear, she was the daughter of the late Taylor Blair and Minirva Lewis Blair. She was retired from Wabash County Hospital OB Department after 28 years. She is a 1955 graduate of Van Lear High School.
She is survived by her husband, Roger D. Fife.
Other survivors include one son, Christopher Fife of Huntington, Indiana; one daughter, Mrs. Kelli Stamper of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Aline Baer of Wabash, Indiana; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 22, at 11 a.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home Eddingfield Chapel, Wabash, Indiana, with Rev. John Denniston officiating.
Burial will be in the Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana, under direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
Vesta Ann Dobson Messer
Vesta Ann Dobson Messer, 38, of Wayland, died Saturday, November 18, 2000.
She was born in Hindman, on May 26, 1962, the daughter of Arlena Patrick Dobson of Vest, and the late Shelby Dobson.
Survivors other than her mother, include one son, Timmy Messer of Hindman; one daughter, Angie Messer of Hindman; paternal grandmother, Maggie Dobson of Vest; four brothers, Paul Dobson of Lexington;, Billy, Richard and Beckham Dobson, all of Vest; four sisters, Peggy Ratliff of Leburn, Anitra Burns and Pat Miller, both of Vest, and Pam Sparks of Greensburg, Indiana.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 21, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, with Ricky Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Dobson Cemetery at Vest, under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.
Gleanna Florene Deskins
Gleanna Florene Deskins, 63, of Nippa, died Thursday, November 16, 2000, at the home of her daughter at Sitka.
She was born February 22, 1937, in Johnson County, the daughter of the late Darvin and Vina Paige Webb. She had been employed by American Standard.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Deskins.
She is survived by four daughters, Eva Stacy of Prestonsburg, Lena Ramey and Carolyn Sue Ramey, both of Sitka, and Angela Campbell of East Point; six brothers, Estil Webb and Harlan Webb, both of Wabash, Indiana, Garlie Webb of Burkett, Indiana, and Bobby Webb, Delno Webb and David Webb, all of Prestonsburg; four sisters, Ruby Stone of Martin, Betty Daniels and Rita Faye Crum, both of Prestonsburg, and Kay Boyd of Harold; a half-sister, Juanita Stratton of Martin; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 19, at 1 p.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, with Larry Blair and Phillip Meade officiating. Burial will be in the Dwale Cemetery at Dwale.
Visitation is after 3 p.m., today, at the funeral home.
