Clyde Scott
Clyde Scott, 51, of Somerset, Ky., formerly of Floyd County, died Thursday, August 16, 2001, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on November 28, 1949, in Floyd County, Ky., he was the son of Zienetia Powers Scott of Somerset, Ky., and the late Posey Scott. He was a disabled G.M. employee.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Young Scott.
Other survivors include one step-son, Christopher Batey of Ypsilanti, Michigan; three daughters, Sheree Scott of Lexington, Ky., Jamilla Scott of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Cheyenne Scott of Somerset, Ky.; four brothers, Ronald Scott of Somerset, Ky., Donald Scott of Bypro, Ky., Bobby Scott of Somerset, Ky., Frankie Scott of Weeksbury, Ky.; two sisters, Bonida Scott of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Kaye Bates of Centre, Alabama; two special nephews, Danie Young and Alexander Lillie.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 19, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, Wheelwright, Ky., with Danny Duncan and Louis Ferrari officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Somerset, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church.

Richard Ruiel Hicks Sr.
Richard Ruiel Hicks Sr., 72, of Lynchburg, Va., died Satur-day, August 18, 2001, in the Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Rosemary Feild Hicks.
Born August 21, 1928, in Garrett, Ky., he was a son of the late Richard and Stella Sword Hicks. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Korean War veteran, a graduate of Lynchburg College, and a retired agent with Horace Mann Insurance Company. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard Ruiel Hicks Jr.; and one daughter, Elizabeth H. Barnes; one brother, Eddie S. Hicks; one grandson, Matthew J. Barnes, all of Lynchburg.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Randall S. Hicks.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, Lynchburg, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth B. Bryan officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Shirley Marie Martin
Shirley Marie Martin, age 85, of Minnie, Ky., wife of the late Edward S. Martin, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2001, in the Jenkins Community Hospital, Jenkins, Ky.
She was born February 16, 1916, in Louisa, Ky., the daughter of the late Tom McCown and Hattie Thompson McCown. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis V. “Jim” Martin, and Edward Keith Martin, both of Minnie, Ky., Marvin “Popeye” Rhea Martin, of Langley, Ky.; two daughters, Joyce Ann Collins of Mansfield, Oh., Jamie Lynn Martin of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Elsie Sue Lawson of Drift, Ky., 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Shirley Marie Martin were conducted, Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial followed in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: David Martin, Brad Martin, Frankie Martin, Jeremy Karimian, Ken Damron, Mike Arnett and Mason Glenn Tackett.
Honorary: Enayat Karimian, Willis Newsome, Tommy Lawson, Teddy Lawson, John Lawson and Eddie Lawson.

Rosalie Smith
Rosalie Smith, died on Thursday, August 16, 2001, at McDowell Regional Hospital.
Rosalie was born on January 26, 1946, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Cordelia Watts and Frank Blickenstaff, both of whom preceded her in death, along with one sibling.
Rosalie married McCoy Smith, January 13, 1967, who passed away July 30, 2001.
Rosalie is survived by two daughters, Vicki Bennett of Lawrenceburg, In., and Rita Gayle Reverman of Versailles, In.; two sons, McCoy David Smith of Versailles, In., and Shane Smith of Milan, In.; three brothers, David Combs of Lackey, Ky.; Donnie Combs of Hindman, Ky., Jerry Combs of Hindman, Ky.; two sisters, Sue Short of Lackey, Ky.; and Lovella Slone of Hindman, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at Pilgrim Home Church, Stumpke’s Corner, Milan, In., with pastors Zee Holbrook and Robert Brigmon officiating.
Rosalie Smith will be buried at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Stumpke’s Corner, In.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Gilla Blanton
Gilla Blanton, age 90, of Langley, Ky., widow of Millard Blanton, passed away, Wednes-day, August 15, 2001, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was born, August 1, 1911, the daughter of the late John and Isabella Elam Burchwell. She was a retired store owner, and a member of the Clear Creek United Baptist Church, Hi Hat, Ky., and the Little Union United Baptist Church, Stone Coal, Ky.
Survivors include one son, Clifford Douglas Blanton of Langley, Ky.; two daughters, Flo Caudill and Loretta Middleton of Sidney, Oh.; one brother, Willard Burchwell of Hillsboro, Oh.; four sisters, Dollie Stuas of Ripley, Oh., Gladys Williams of Springfield, Oh., Thelma Sparks of Mason, Oh., Dorothy Horn of Cincinnati, Oh.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Wendell Clyde Blanton; one sister, Delorse Flainders; six brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services for Gilla Blanton will be conducted, Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with the Elder Denver Caudill and others officiating.
Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery, Hi Hat, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Birdie Collins
Birdie Collins, 65, of McDowell, Ky., died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on January 31, 1936, at McDowell, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Greenberry Howell and Minnie L. Osborne Howell. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Terry Collins of McDowell, Ky; and two grandchildren, Terry Dwayne Collins and Krystal Walters.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Howell and L.B. Howell; two sisters, Gertie Debord and Mertie Gayheart.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with the clergyman, Denver Meade, officiating.
Burial will be in the Elliott Cemetery, Frazier Creek, McDowell, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation will be at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Tokie Gayheart Hendricks
Tokie Gayheart Hendricks, age 94, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Floyd County, wife of the late J.J. Hendricks, passed away, Saturday, August 11, 2001, at the Lexington Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Lexington, Ky.
She was born August 25, 1906, the daughter of the late George Gayheart and Cathrine Martin Gayheart. She had numerous occupations, as well as being a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Fred C. Hendricks of Fishers, In., and Barkley D. Hendricks of Gauthier, Ms.; one brother, Lafayette Gayheart of Eastern, Ky., and one sister, Clova Collins of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; five sisters, Norma Martin, Opal Shields, Amy Cox, Lester Coburn and Goldie Osborn; two brothers, Crit Gayheart and Taylor Gayheart.
Funeral services for Tokie Gayheart Hendricks were conducted Monday, August 13, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Benny Blankenship officiating.
Burial followed in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Lay Gayheart, Lowell Conley, Bobby Gayheart, Fred Hendricks, John Turnley, and Charles Des Rosier.

Alfred Lee Goble
Alfred Lee Goble, age 68, of Sullivan, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, August 12, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born January 9, 1933, in Emma, Ky., son of the late High and Daisy (Scalf) Goble. He was a tree trimmer for 14 years for Elwoods Tree Service in Forest, Ohio. Then he went to work for the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain, Ohio, for 26 years, until his retirement in 1993. He loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Goble in 1993, and a brother, Denver Goble.
He is survived by two daughters, Marie Frye of Elyria, Ohio, and Donna Mullins of Huntington, Ohio; four sons, Alfred D. Goble of New London, Charles Goble of Lorain, Danny Goble of Topmost, Ky., and Albert Goble of Sullivan; five sisters and two brothers; six step-children, Faye Summers of West Salem, Ohio, Teresa Howell of New London, Edna Lower of Sullivan, Judy Doran of Harold, Ky., Pam Watson of Nashville, Tenn., and Steve Stewart of South Point, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, at Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Burial will follow at Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, Ky.
Visitation was held Monday, August 13, at the Eastman Funeral Home, New London, Ohio.
Memorials, if desired, may be given to Hospice of North Central Ohio Inc., 1605 County Rd. 1095, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
Hall Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
