Cecil Sanders
Cecil Sanders, 77, of Betsy Layne, Ky., died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Pikeville Health Care Center, Pikeville, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on February 18, 1924, at Lackey, Ky., he was the son of the late William Sherman Sanders and Mary Belle Clark Sanders. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of U.M.W.A.
He is survived by his wife, Kathern Watkins Sanders.
Other survivors include two sons, Johnny Sanders and Robert Wayne Sanders, both of Betsy Layne, Ky.; one daughter, Eunice Lawson of Betsy Layne, Ky.; four sisters, Evelyn Sanders, Betty Chill, Billie Shortridge, and Jill Hamilton, all of Lebanon, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Randy Lawson, Timmy Sanders, Johnny Cecil Sanders, Sherman Lee Sanders, Trish Mizer, and Sammy Kyle Sanders; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Sanders.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Sonny Ray Boyd officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Pallbearers: Robert Sanders, Randy Lawson, Timmy Sanders, Johnny Cecil Sanders, Ryan Lawson, Sherman Lee Sanders, and Justin Lawson.
Honorary pallbearers: Sammy Kyle Sanders and Shawn Case.
Visitation was at the Funeral Home.

Franklin (Gabby) Woods
Franklin (Gabby) Woods, 53, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Cow Creek, Ky., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born on February 21, 1948, in Floyd County, Ky., he was the son of the late Frankie Woods and Rosie Endicott Woods. He was a carpenter.
Survivors include two sisters, Irene Burkett of Lexington, Ky., and Evelyn Mays of Columbus, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William (Bill) Woods, James Everett Woods, Henry Clayton Woods; and one sister, Lula Mae Goodman.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Brother Dave Garrett and Jim Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Woods Cemetery, Cow Creek, Prestonsburg, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Pallbearers: Billy Joe Hunter, Richard May, Paul Mays, Phil Rowe, Don Garven, and John Robinson.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Rex Gearheart
Rex Gearheart, 85, of Hi Hat, Ky., died Monday, July 30, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on October 28, 1915, at Gearheart, Ky., he was the son of the late Andy Jackson Gearheart and Sally Moore Gearheart.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the 106th Cavalry; he was a member of Chapter No. 128, D.A.V., at Garrett; was a past master of Wheelwright Masonic Lodge No. 889; was a charter member of the Left Beaver Rescue Squad; and a member of CCC. He was a retired coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Allen Gearheart.
Survivors include two sons, Rexford Orris Gearheart of Hi Hat, Ky., Wesley Andrew Gearheart of Price, Ky.; two daughters, Judy Reed and Jane Gross, both of Price, Ky.; one sister, Helen Gearheart Hall of Hi Hat, Ky., and five grandchildren, James, Lisa, Tanya, Onette, and Bryan; four great-grandchildren, Rachael, Mor-gan, Jeremy, and Destiny.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Gearheart, Fred Gearheart, and Rush Gearheart; and one sister, May Gearheart.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 2, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Harry Hargis and others officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Cemetery, Price, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
DAV funeral will be conducted by Chapter 128 at Garrett, Ky., and Masonic funeral services, Wednesday, at 7 p.m., by Wheelwright Lodge No. 889.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Bertha Mae Cooksey Brown
Bertha Mae Cooksey Brown, age 67, of Prestonburg, Ky., died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Highlands Re-gional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born January 16, 1934, at Potter, Ky., the oldest child of Bennie Ray and Elizabeth Emogene McGuire Cooksey. She was a graduate of Meade Memorial High School in Johnson County, Ky. and Ashland Business College, Ashland, Ky.
On May 8, 1953, she married George Cecil Brown, at the home of her parents, in Prestonsburg.
Mae worked at Brown Produce Company in Prestonsburg, and later at Brown Foodservice in Louisa, Ky., her husband’s family’s business. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg.
Mae is survived by identical twin sons, Larry Dean (Terri Rae Spradlin), and Gary Douglas (Dawn Michelle Musser), both of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Georganne (Donald Wayne, Jr.) Taylor of Prestonsburg, who was born on the twins’ seventh birthday; two sisters, Jean Rae (Howard) Moore of Ashland, and Frances Marie (Don) Sorrell, of Ashland; two brothers, Johnny Mack (Diane Warrix) Cooksey of Lexington, and Tommy Dan (Patricia Musser) Cooksey of Ashland; three grandsons, Jordan Chase Brown, Andrew Tyler Brown, and Garrett Woodson McGuire Brown, all of Prestonsburg; one granddaughter, Lindsey Michelle Brown, of Prestonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, George Cecil, preceded her in death in May 2000.
Like her father, brothers and husband, Mae took an interest in flying, and receive her pilot’s license in 1982. She loved her family and friends, music, animals, books and travel.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 29, 2001, with the Rev. Wayne Sayre officiating.
Entombment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa, Ky., under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Pallbearers: Robert Sorrell, Wayne Brown, Dan Cooksey, Ben Cooksey, Mark Moore, and Matthew Moore.

Judy Rabin
Judy (Aunt Judy) Rabin, of Wilmington, Ohio, died, 11:40 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Dayton Heart Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.
She was born September 11, 1913, in Dwale, Ky., the daughter of the late John C. and Lou Ellen Lafferty Branham.
Her husband, Harry Rabin, preceded her in death in April 1991.
Mrs. Rabin is survived by her loving family: Bennie (Christine) Branham of Circleville, Ohio, Judy Branham of Wilmington, Ohio, Susie Branham Gregory of Wilmington, Ohio, Cheryl Branham (Jerry) Webb of Wilmington, Ohio, Yolonda Branham Kraner of Martinsville, Ohio, Jonna Branham Briggs of Leesburg, Ohio, Stephanie Evans (Keith) Addington of Hillsboro, Ohio, Rosie (James) Clark of Flatwoods, Ky.; grandchildren, Kicole Branham Chisman, Danica Branham (Tony) Sharrock, Eric Franz, Alisha Briggs, Megan Hayslip, Kristen Gregory, Stephenie Gregory, Dr. Chad (Jennifer) Webb, Jeremiah Webb, Benjamin Webb, Evan Webb, Levi Kraner, Tiffany Kraner; great-grandson, Tyler Chisman; special friend, Agnes Cummings of Wilmington, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rabin was preceded in death by four brothers, William “Bill” Branham, Claude Branham, Arthur Branham, and Bennie Branham; and four sisters, Nancy Johnson, Margaret Clark, Artie Kincaid, and Nell Broyles.
Mrs. Rabin retired from Twin Fair Department Store. She was a member of the Highland County Senior Citizen’s Center. Judy gave her entire life caring for others. She also loved cooking, quilting, and sewing.
Services will be held, 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio, with Rev. Tim Clark officiating.
A graveside service will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Cincinnati, Ohio, at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2001.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Senior Citizen’s Center, 185 Muntz Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.

Orbie Prater Vaughan
Orbie Prater Vaughan, 94, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Riverview Health Care Center.
Born at Risner, Ky., (Floyd County), she was the daughter of the late Columbus (Lum) Prater and Caroline Johnson Prater. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, and a life member of Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 31, Prestonsburg.
She was also a member of the Independent Christian Women’s Fellowship and was named Mother of the Year in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David (Dove) J. Vaughan, January 25, 1984.
Survivors include three sons, John E. Vaughan of 5707 Laurel Ridge Rd., Chattanooga, Tn., Dr. Ronald E. Vaughan of 4221 Broadway St., South Salem, Oh., Joe L. Vaughan of 425 Severn Way, Lexington, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Martin L. Vaughan, and one brother, Taylor Prater.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Community United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Steven Pescosolido officiating.
Burial will be in the Mayo Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky., under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Rhoda Magrum
Rhoda Magrum, 79, of Albion, Mich., passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Trillium Hospital, Albion.
She was born January 12, 1922, in Floyd County, Ky., the daughter of Jeff and Pearlie (Combs) Frasure. Rhoda had been employed at the Holiday Inn in Albion, Lynn Farms in Homer, and Alice’s Donut Factory. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, cooking, watching TV, and visiting with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Earl Wallen (1964) and Richard Magrum (2000).
Survivors include nine daughters, Delois Smith of Ky., Birdie Howard of Oh., Wilma Patrick of Homer, Mi., Marcella Kopp of Port Huron, Mi., Faye Smith of Jonesville, Mi.; and Jean Combs, Janice Goble, Gay Haywood and Wanda Zaremba, all of Albion, Mi.; three sons, Glidden Wallen of Oh., Carlos Wallen of Coldwater, Mi., Harlos Wallen of Albion, Mi.; five step-children, John Magrum and Joseph Magrum, both of Florida, Patricia Pollman of Albion, Mi., Kathryn Murray and Michelle Patterson, both of Florida; two sisters, Dollie McKee of Ohio and Willadean Scott of Ky.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Christine.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 1, at 1 p.m., at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Reverend Earl Martin and Ham Trusty officiating.
Interment will follow at Albion Memory Gardens.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Mrs. Magrum’s family.
