John David “Dee” Case, age 51, of Garrett, Ky., husband of Wanda Joyce Hall Case, passed away Monday, December 3, 2001, at his residence.
He was born February 13, 1950, in Martin, Ky., the son of Johnnie Case and Anna Jewell Prichard Case of Garrett, Ky. He was owner and operator of Case Auto Sales, Garrett, Ky.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Shawn David and Christopher Douglas Case, both of Garrett, Ky.; two brothers, James Martin Case and Jerry Thomas Case, both of Garrett, Ky.; and one sister, Joyce Ann Gore of Lackey, Ky.
Funeral services for John David Case will be conducted Thursday, December 6, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Garrett First Baptist Church, Garrett, Ky., with Clergyman Randy Osborne officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is after 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home and after 12:00 noon, Thursday, at the church.
Ronnie D. Leslie
Ronnie D. Leslie, 68, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Born on April 2, 1933, at Emma, Ky., he was the son of Ballard and Molly Leslie. He was the youngest son of seven brothers and sisters. They have all preceded him in death, except John Lee Leslie of Gladwin, Michigan, who is the only survivor.
Ronnie grew up and attended school in Floyd County. He moved to Michigan 35 years ago, and worked for Ford Motor Company until retirement. He will be returned to Saline Michigan, to the Robison-Bahmyiller Funeral Home. His body will be cremated and his ashes will be returned to his only surviving brother.
We, his family, who are scattered in different states, feel a special grief for our beloved Ronnie. He lived far away from us, but he was always close to our hearts and our thoughts. We loved him dearly, and he will be greatly missed by all of his family.
Sylvia Pillersdorf
Sylvia Pillersdorf of Nanuet, New York; formerly of Lower Johns Creek died of natural causes on November 26, 2001. She was eighty-four years old, having been born on September 21, 1917 in New York City. Sylvia Pillersdorf was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a Wave. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Pillersdorf, who was also a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army, and was a former American prisoner of war in Germany.
Sylvia Pillersdorf is survived by her daughters Nan Rabinowitz of Brookline, Massachusetts; Frances Pillersdorf of New York City; her son Ned Pillersdorf of Lower Johns Creek; and her daughter-in-law Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Janet L. Stumbo. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Kate Rabinowitz of Hoboken, New Jersey; Noah Rabinowitz of Seattle, Washington and Sarah Pillersdorf, Nancee Pillersdorf and Samantha Pillersdorf of Lower Johns Creek.
Sylvia Pillersdorf was laid to rest on November 28, 2001 at Washington Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Floyd Bar Association Food Pantry Fund; or to the Piarist School or David School.
Phoebe Merritt
Phoebe Merritt, 76, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at her residence in Alger, Ohio.
Born January 28, 1925, in Bonanza, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sara (Anderson) Manuel. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at North Electric in Kenton, Ohio; also worked at Findlay Industries and in elderly home care. She was a member of the High Street Freewill Baptist Church on Reservoir Road, Lafayette, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Ben Merritt.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Brenda) Merritt of Alger, Ohio, Bennie (Janice) Merritt, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; one sister, Angie Bays of Prestonsburg; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 26, 2001, 1 p.m., at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, Ohio, with Rev. James Webb officiating.
Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery, Alger, Ohio, under the direction of Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.
Garry Douglas Newman
Garry Douglas Newman, 60 years old, born July 18, 1941, in Hi Hat, Ky., the son of Mr. Henton and Loreena (Ross/Parker) Newman and Andrew Parker and Marcettia (Hall) Newman.
Garry had been living in Michigan, since 1955. He was a veteran of the US Army Company A 17th SIG BN APO 164 Ranger Battalion armed forces and National Guards in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, Mi.
Garry was employed at GM in Ypsi as a Forman and computer painter, and also in Arlington, Tx. He retired in 1993. He was a member of the Whitmore Lake Rod and Gun Club and the American Rifle Association; a past member of the Moose Lodge in Hamburg, Mi. He enjoyed flying planes, being a ham operator, and loved NASCAR and stock car races. He was a frequent visitor of the race tracks in Michigan.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, a loving wife of 36 years, Patricia L. (Jones) Newman, daughter, Kim Loraine Hollister and husband Kevin, and granddaughter, Cheyenne, of Munith, Mi.; son, Kevin Douglas Newman and wife Dawn (Weston) Newman, and grandsons, Richard and baby Kenneth Newman, from Gregory Mi.; and sisters, Barbara Lou Hayden and Ellen Mae Akers, of Ky.; sister-in-law, Sue Newman of Ky.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Fouchey (Robert) from Brighton, Mi., and brother-in-law, Thomas Jones (Mary Kay) from Grand Blanc, Mi.; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Fritz and Keith Ditmore.
Garry was a special papa to all the little ones who loved to be with him.
Garry was preceded in death by his father, Henton Newman; step-father, Andrew Parker; mother, Loreena Parker, and brother, Edgar Newman.
Garry has taught us to live for today, for tomorrow never comes, and the past is history we can learn from. Garry will awake in Heaven’s courtyard, free from pain within; the angels will gather around him and take his hand... he is finally at home.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to his doctors and the staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
A celebration of Garry’s life was held on Monday, July 23rd, at 11:00 a.m., at Bell-Borek Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel, with Rev. Carl F. Welser officiating.
Burial was at Washtenong Memorial Park. The family received friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday, from 12-6 p.m.

Myrtle Martin Jacobs
Myrtle Martin Jacobs, 81, of Garrett, Ky., passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the St. Joseph-Hospice Care in Lexington, Ky.
Being one of seven children, Myrtle was born June 20, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Amanda Martin; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Columbus Jacobs.
The wedding vow, “Till Death Do Us Part, ” was a steadfast oath that lasted 56 years. This unity brought forth two sons, Jimmy Jacobs of Lexington, Ky., and Bobby Jacobs of Wilmore, Ky.; five grandchildren, Kim Garrett, Jennifer Palmer, Timothy Jacobs, Lisa Jacobs, and Jeff Jacobs; and six great-grandchildren, Kristina Garrett, Brittany Garrett, Corey Jacobs, Madison Hines, Jacob Palmer and Shyanne Garrett, who also survive her.
Myrtle was a member of The Salt Lick United Baptist Church, a member of Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Kentucky Education Association and The National Teachers Association. She taught in The Floyd County School System for 41 years.
Funeral services were conducted, 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergymen, Jerry Manns, Chester Lucas, and Sterlin Bolen officiating.
Burial was in the Tom Martin Cemetery, Garrett, Ky.
Visitation was after 1:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home, with church services at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of The Bluegrass, One St. Joseph Drive, Lexington, Ky., 40504.

Andrew Jackson “Jack” Jervis
Andrew Jackson “Jack” Jervis, 87, of Endicott, the widower of Josephine Jervis, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born December 9, 1913, at Endicott, the son of the late William Kennis and Josie (Sherman) Jervis. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the Church of Christ at Prestonsburg.
He is survived by four sons, Freddie Jervis of Circleville, Oh., Stanley Jervis of West Prestonsburg, and Jeffrey and Johnny Jervis, both of Endicott; six daughters, Maggie Damron of Tram, Lou Jane Hunter of Mansfield, Ohio, and Shirley Jervis, Mary Ann Burchett, Rosetta Ward and Roberta Burchett, all of Endicott; one brother, L.J. “Jake” Jervis, of Pontiac, Mi.; one sister, Judy Jervis of Louisa; 24 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with Evangelist Bennie Blankenship officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jervis Cemetery at Endicott.
Visitation began on Monday, July 23rd, at 2 p.m., at the new location of the Floyd Funeral Home, and continued after 10 a.m., on Tuesday.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Floyd Funeral Home of Prestonsburg.
Katherine Virginia Henry Osborne
Katherine Virginia Henry Osborne, age 73, of Martin, Ky., widow of James Ralph Osborne, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky.
She was born February 11, 1928, at Drift, Ky., the daughter of the late Charlie Henry and Maggie Robinson Henry. Mrs. Osborne was a homemaker, and attended the Drift Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Grant T. Osborne of Columbus, Oh., Gary Osborne of Martin, Ky.; two brothers, Roe Henry of Waverly, Ohio, Mark Henry of Cleveland, Oh.; two sisters, Helen J. Daniels of Hudson, N.C., Ruth Rotenbury of Delanco, N.J.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Henry, Bill Henry and Charles Henry; and one sister, Mae Daniels.
Funeral services for Katherine Virgnia Osborne will be conducted Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergyman, Ted Shannon, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.
Visitation is after 5 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
