Barbara J. Goble, age 64, of Cardington, Ohio, died Sunday evening, July 1, 2001, after a long, brave fight with cancer.
Barbara was born March 7, 1937, at Mare Creek, Kentucky, to John and Elouise (Stratton) Spradlin. She was married
to Jack D. Goble in Betsy Layne, KY, on June 15, 1955. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a loving mother of four, as well as grandmother to four. She is survived by two sons, Donald J. Goble of Cardington, and Randall Goble of Hamilton; two daughters, Darlene Hacker of Oxford, and Jean Powelson of Cardington; as well as grandchildren, Amanda Goble, Chad Goble, Megan Goble and Trevor Hacker.
She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Rhodes of Wellington, and Margaret Lewis of Marion, and three brothers, Wilburn Spradlin of Vinemont, Alabama, Hurley Spradlin of Marion, and Walter Spradlin of Stanville, Kentucky.
Barbara was a faithful member of Edison Enterprise Baptist Church in Edison. She had worked at Waco Industries in Cardington and at Woodside Village Care Center in Mt. Gilead.
Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington, on Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., in the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating.
Burial will follow in the Glendale Cemetery in Cardington.

Ralph D. Spencer
Ralph D. Spencer, age 85, of Eastern, Kentucky, husband of Eugenia “Jean” Marie Horner Spencer, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
Pallbearers were Ron Spencer, Shawn Spencer, John Hunt, Larry Hodge, Melvin Allen, Jim Berger, Tony Spencer, and Tom Horner.
Honorary Pallbearers: Everett Gilde, Paul Blevins, Clifford Spencer, Paul Bailey, Jim Spencer, Phil Spencer, Denver Adkins, Prock Conley, and Gary Bailey.
Glema Kathleen Roberts
Glema Kathleen Roberts, 69, of Virgie, Ky., died Monday, June 25, 2001.
Born on October 12, 1931, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Billie Hall and Myrtle Bentley Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Roberts Sr.
Other survivors include one son, Paul Edward Roberts of Virgie, Ky.; one daughter, Carolyn Risner of Canon, Georgia; one stepson, Russell Roberts Jr., of Meta, Ky.; two brothers, Noble Hall of Indianapolis, Ind., Glenn Hall of Elyria, Oh.; one sister, Irene Looney of Elyria, Oh.; nine grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Good.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 28, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, with Sonny Miracle officiating.
Burial was in the Roberts Cemetery, Jonancy, Ky., under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 26, 2001 after 6 p.m., and nightly services at 7 p.m.
Ballard J. Hackworth
Ballard J. Hackworth, 79, of 1108 E. Clark St., Warsaw, Ind., died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at the Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Ind.
Born on November 17, 1921, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of the late Harry and Della (Stephens) Hackworth. He had lived in Kosciusko Co., Ind., since 1938, and worked for Warsaw Plating Works for more than 40 years, retiring as a group leader; he was also a self-employed farmer, and was a U.S. Navy WWII Atlantic/Mediterranean Theater, Gunnery Mate, USS Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Conley Hackworth, in 1993.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, six brothers and one half brother.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer (Mrs. Doug) Brumfield of Warsaw, Ind.; one son, Michael Hackworth of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry Hackworth of Prestonsburg, Ky., Gordon Hackworth of Mentone, Ind., six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 30, 2001, at 10 a.m., at the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Ind., with Ron Roetman officiating.
Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, Ind.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, or the American Heart Association.
Charles Bennett “Ben” Lake
Charles Bennett “Ben” Lake, 41, of Lexington, formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001.
Born in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Edward and Dee Bennett Lake. He was a project manager for Ashland Inc.; a graduate of Russell High School; Transylvania Univers-ity; and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Wells Lake, a Floyd County native.
Survivors, other than his wife and parents, include one son, Drew Lake; two daughters Alli and Emily Lake, all of Lexington; a sister, Laurie Lake of Texas; one brother, Peter Lake of Virginia Beach, Va.; and three nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 29, 11:30 a.m., at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland, Lexington, with Rev. Robert Shaw officiating.
Interment will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Maralene Diederich Miller
Maralene Diederich Miller, age 69, of Martin, Ky., formerly of Kendallville, Ind., widow of Alvin E. Miller, passed away, June 26, 2001, at her daughter’s residence at Martin, Ky.
She was born January 13, 1932, in Indiana, the daughter of the late August Diederich and Vesta Barber Diederich. She was a retired nurses aide.
Survivors include two daughters, Tina Collins of Martin, Ky., Sara Brown of Wayland, Ky.; two brothers, David Diederich and Irvin Diederich, both of Indiana; three sisters, Nancy Hazelton of Florida, Evelyn Baughman and Wanda Elliott, both of Indiana; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
All funeral arrangements will be conducted in Indiana. Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., is caring for local arrangements.
Anna Elliott Meade
Anna Elliott Meade, 83, of Harold, Ky., died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Pikeville Health Care Center, Pikeville, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on December 10, 1917, in Floyd County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Green and Tona Margaret Yates Elliott. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ at Harold, Ky., for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Meade, in December 1975.
Survivors include four sons, Durad Meade of Betsy Layne, Ky., Wendell Meade of Lancer, Ky., Gary L. Meade and Hubert Meade, both of Harold, Ky.; two daughters, Sharon Gearheart and Collene Meade, both of Harold, Ky.; two brothers, Garland Elliott of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Charlie Elliott of Printer, Ky.; one sister, Phyllis Lawson of Dana, Ky.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Doyle G. Meade, Warren G. Meade, Herbert Meade and David Meade; one daughter, Billie Sue Meade; three brothers, Berlin Elliott, John Elliott and Richard Elliott; two sisters, Mary Alice Lawson, and Draxie Kidd; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Lower Toler Church of Christ, Harold, Ky., with Church of Christ ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Meade Cemetery, at Printer, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was in the Lower Toler Church of Christ.
Brandon Gene Hall
Brandon Gene Hall, 14, of Galveston, Ky., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, Ky., following a sudden illness.
Born on June 12, 1987, at Pikeville, Ky., he was the son of Billy Gene Hall and Sandra L. Huhn Hall of Galveston, Ky.
Other survivors include two brothers, Benjamin Hall and Joshua Hall, both of Galveston, Ky.; and aunts and uncles, Charles and Betty Hall, and Kenis and Christine Hall.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, America and Charlie Hall, and Alvin and Norma Huhn.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church at Grethel, Ky., with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Hall Family Cemetery, Pigeon Roost Br., Galveston, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
