June Porter, of Red Bird Lane, Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 28, 2001, at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Porter, and son, Paul Brian Porter.
Survivors are her daughter, Debby Salvato of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, (husband, Al Salvato), son, Jimmy Porter of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, (wife Debby), and son, John Mark Porter, of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky (wife Jeannie); eight grandchildren, Alix, Angel, Daniel, Kristi, Matthew, Joe, Bethany and Chris; and two great-grandchildren, Dallin and Isabella.
June was a lifelong resident of Boldman, Kentucky. She was a graduate of Pikeville High School and Pikeville College. She was employed by the Pike County Board of Education for the Head Start Program as a supervising teacher for many years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many positions throughout her life, including serving a mission for the church at the Atlanta, Georgia, Temple. She also volunteered at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Visitation was at the J.W. Call Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 30th. The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 31st, at J.W. Call Funeral Home.
Burial followed at the Porter Family Cemetery at Boldman, Kentucky.
Leona Mable Prater
Leona Mable Prater, age 83, of Edgewater, Florida, formerly of Hueysville, Ky., widow of James “Jim” Prater, passed away Friday, May 25, 2001, at her residence in Edgewater, Fl.
She was born July 10, 1917, in Hueysville, Ky., the daughter of the late Willie Hayes and Melcina Allen Hayes. Mrs. Prater was a homemaker, a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ, Hueysville, Ky., and attended the New Smyrna Beach Christian Church, New Smyrna Beach, Fl.
Survivors include four sons, James Prater and John Prater, both of Edgewater, Fl., Richard Prater, Ocala, Fl., Don Prater, Westland, Mi.; two daughters, Dianne Hall, Edgewater, Fl., Sally Moore, Westland, Mi.; two brothers, Joe Hayes, Hueysville, Ky., Clarence Hayes, Betsy Layne, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Leona Mable Prater were conducted Monday, May 28, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Clergyman Jeff Prater officiating.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: Ed Hall Jr., Jimmy Prater, David Prater, Jamie Prater, David Hayes, Randy Hayes, Orris Hayes and Josh Hayes.
Daniel E. Gardner
Daniel E. Gardner, 72, of Stratton Branch, near Prestonsburg, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born on April 8, 1928, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Ed and Matilda Ball Gardner. He was a retired coal miner with Rebel Coal in Martin County, a member of the UMWA Local 1468, District 30, and was a former Pike County deputy sheriff.
He is survived by his wife, Reba Hatfield Gardner.
Other survivors include two sons, Rodney Gardner and Eddy Gardner, both of Prestonsburg and one grandson.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 29, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tom Biddle officiating.
Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery in Prestonsburg, under the direction of the Floyd Funeral Home of Prestonsburg.
Serving as pallbearers were Carl Crisp, Todd Crisp, James Bell, Easel Hatfield, Jason White and Hiram R. Hatfield.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Joseph, Jacob Gardner, Steve Price and Dylan Crisp.
Daniel R. Hamilton
Daniel R. Hamilton, 46, of Lexington, formerly of Hi Hat, died Monday, February 26, 2001, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, following an extended illness.
Born on September 29, 1954, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he was the son of Alberta Mitchell Hamilton of Hi Hat, and the late Hershel Hamilton. He was a lab technician and a member of the Southland Christian Church in Lexington.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy May Hamilton.
Other survivors include one daughter, Whitney Rae Hamilton of Lexington; one brother, Eddie Hamilton of Hi Hat; two sisters, Janet Vance and Brenda Howell, both of Hi Hat.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 1, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with the minister of Southland Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Hamilton Family Cemetery, at Hi Hat.
Chester D. Bailey
Chester D. Bailey, 68, of Pikeville, died Sunday, February 25, at his residence.
Born on October 5, 1932, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Maggie Conley Bailey and Lacy Bailey. He was an educator and member of the First Baptist Church, Pikeville, and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia West Bailey.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert A. Bailey of Lexington, Chester D. Bailey II of Pikeville; two daughters, Glenda B. Adkins and Sherry L. Lane, both of Pikeville; two brothers, Frank A. Bailey of Pikeville, Robert L. Bailey of Fairborn, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 28, at 1 p.m., at the Alumni Auditorium on the campus of Pikeville High School.
Burial will be in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, at Shelbiana, under the direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home.
Clifford Hamilton
Clifford Hamilton, 66, of Teaberry, died Friday, February 23, 2001, at his residence.
He was born January 19, 1935, at Teaberry, the son of the late John W. and Mindy Newsome Hamilton. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie Newsome Hamilton.
Other survivors include two sons, Donahue Hamilton and Clifford Hamilton Jr., both of Teaberry; one daughter, Margie Roberts of Teaberry; one brother, Kenis Hamilton of Mims, Florida; one sister, Sarah Hamilton of Teaberry, four grandchildren, and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 26, at the Samaria Regular Baptist Church, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Hamilton Family Cemetery, at Teaberry, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Pallbearers were Jeff Hamilton, Billy Joe Hamilton, A. J. Hamilton, Brian Roberts, Casey Rowe, Ralph Akers, Lundy Mullins and Bobby Hamilton Jr.

Jerry Anthony Rowe
Jerry Anthony Rowe, 43, of Langley, died Friday, February 23, 2001, at his residence.
Born on August 14, 1957, in McDowell, he was the son of Joyce Ann Williams Rowe of Langley, and the late Virgil Rowe. He was a disabled butcher.
He is survived by his wife Kimberly Belcher Rowe.
Other survivors include one son, Darrin Spencer of Indiana; two step-sons, Jody Spriggs and Justin Spriggs both of Drift; one step-daughter, Kelli Jo Spriggs of Drift; and one brother, Terry Rowe of Lexington.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 27, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Ted Shannon and Rodney Scott officiating.
Burial was in the Stewart Cemetery, at Langley.
Ellis Gerald Spurlock
Ellis Gerald Spurlock, 51, of Printer, died Sunday, February 25, 2001, in Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
He was born July 7, 1949, in Martin, the son of Hobert Spurlock of Printer, and the late Goldie McKinney Spurlock. He was a member and elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at Martin, and also an employee of the Floyd County School System.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Bentley Spurlock.
Other survivors include one son Kevin G. Spurlock of Langley; two daughters, Lorabeth Danielle Spurlock and Amanda Jolene Spurlock, both of Lexington; five brothers, Dale McKinney of Prestonsburg, Ricky D. Spurlock of Ivel, Dana Terry Spurlock of Printer, Lamarr Spurlock of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Barry Spurlock of Allen; two sisters, Cheryl Lynn Kinslow of Printer and Katie Doris Isom of Harrodsburg; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 27, at 1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Martin, with the elder, Ken Carriere, officiating.
Entombment followed in the Lakeview Cemetery, Staffordsville, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Pallbearers were Hobert Spurlock, Dale McKinney, Dana Spurlock, Ricky Spurlock, Lamarr Spurlock and Barry Spurlock.
Honorary pallbearers were his nephews.
