Walker Tackett, 75, of Teaberry, died Thursday, February 22, 2001, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born on October 11, 1925, in Craynor, he was the son of the late Andy Tackett and Martha White Tackett. He was a disabled coal miner, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Mud Creek Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Mearl Frasure Tackett.
Other survivors include three sons, Hershel Tackett of Grethel, Glen Tackett, and Paul David Tackett, both of Teaberry; one daughter, Rosella Newsome of Teaberry; one sister, Fanny Martin of Craynor, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 25, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Tackett Family Cemetery, at Teaberry, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Pallbearers are Toby Newsome, Bryan Tackett, Kevin Tackett, Brent Tackett, Adam Tackett, and Jonathan Tackett.
Honorary pallbearers are Colby Hayes, Chris Tackett, Hunter Bailey, Andrey Bailey, Dustin Hinkle, and Grant Tackett.
Dora Bell Mitchell
Dora Bell Mitchell, 93, of Wheelwright, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born June 24, 1907, in Wise, Virginia, the daughter of the late William Roberts and Susie Roberts. She was a retired businesswoman and a member of the Joppa Regular Baptist Church, at Melvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan W. Mitchell.
Survivors include one son, Bill Mitchell of Estill, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 24, at 1 p.m., at the Joppa Regular Baptist Church, at Melvin, with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is after 1 p.m., Friday at the funeral home, and after 10 a.m., Saturday, at the church.
Carlos Cea Evans
Carlos Cea Evans, 77, of Thelma, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born on January 7, 1924, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Carlos Amburgy and Bertle Preston Amburgy.
She is survived by her husband, Elzie Franklin Evans.
Other survivors include three sons, David L. Evans of Van Lear, James Franklin Evans of Thelma and Johnny Evans of Lick Fork; two daughters, Deloris Patrick of Prestonsburg, Phyllis Jean Price of Nippa; two brothers, Fletcher Amburgy of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Elmer Amburgy of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Helen Powell of Thelma, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services was conducted Thursday, February 22, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel, with Roger Hill officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
Donna Gaye Hall
Donna Gaye Hall, 67, of Kite, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at the residence of her granddaughter in Hindman.
She was born January 20, 1934, in Wheelwright, she was the daughter of the late Harry Benner and Shirley Benner. She was a retired school teacher, formerly employed at the Knott County School System.
She is survived by her husband, Claude Hall Sr.
Other survivors include one son, Claude Hall Jr. of Kite; three daughters, Quindore Elizabeth Hall of Cullman, Alabama, Transy Lee Hall of Kite, Jami Lynn Hall of Cincinnati, Ohio, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 25, at 10 a.m., at the Rebecca Regular Baptist Church at Kite, with the clergymen, Roger Dale Hicks and Curtie Hall, officiating.
Burial will be in the Bob Strange Cemetery, at Kite, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Donna Gaye Hall were Scottie Triplett, Randall Mullins, Robert Griffith, Jason Hall, Paul Jameson, Dennis Trogden and Brandon Caudill.
John W. Branham
John W. Branham, 77, of Wheelwright, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on August 21, in Boons Camp, he was the son of the late Jessie James and Minnie Lackey Branham. He was a retired veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a member of the VFW, and was a Past Master and member of Masonic Lodge No. 899 F&AM at Wheelwright.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hall Branham.
Other survivors include two sons, James B. Branham of Wheelwright, John (Donnie) Branham of Neon; one daughter, Melissa J. Branham of Wheelwright; one brother, David Branham of Michigan; two sisters, Jeanette Quigg of Michigan, Betty Jo Hall of Bevinsville; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m., at the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church at Bevinsville, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Wiley Burke Cemetery, Bevinsville, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Lula Hall Ratliff
Lula Hall Ratliff, 84, of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center.
Born on August 9, 1916, in Clintwood, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Sanka Hall and Susie Gilbert Hall. She was a member of the Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ratliff.
Survivors include two sons, Basil Ray Ratliff of Cadiz, Jerry Dean Ratliff of Martin; three daughters, Theda A. Chambliss of Lake City, Florida, Marietta S. Harrod of Mansfield, Ohio, Patsy Sexton of Cadiz; four brothers, Carl Hall of Idaho, Elmer Hall of Macon, Georgia, Everett Hall and Earl Hall, both of Crystal River, Florida; two sisters, Ethel Hayes of Dayton, Tennessee, Mae Moore of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 23, at the Goodwin Funeral Home, at Cadiz.
Burial will be in the East End Cemetery, Cadiz.
Opal Bentley
Opal Bentley, 56, of Detroit, Michigan, formerly of Beaver, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at Harper Hospital in Detroit, following a brief illness.
Born on April 15, 1944, in Beaver, she was the daughter of Jettie Mitchell Bentley of Beaver, and the late Andy Bentley.
Survivors include four sons, Carl Reynolds of Beaver, Hugh Reynolds of Virgie, Barry Reynolds of Paintsville, Thomas Bentley of Detroit, Michigan; six brothers, Andy Bentley Jr. of Tennessee, Joe Bentley and Mose Bentley, both of Michigan, Troy Bentley, Charlie Bentley and Arnold (Jam Up) Bentley, all of Beaver; two sisters, Marie Osborne of Grethel, Ruby Adkins of Michigan; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 25, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Bentley Family Cemetery at Beaver.
Visitation will be Friday evening.
Darwin Patton
Darwin Patton, 78, of Auxier, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Born on August 8, 1922, he was the son of late Alex L. Patton and Mary Goble Patton. He was former manager of Floyd Federal Savings and Loan Association, Prestonsburg, and former assistant cashier for the First National Bank, Prestonsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Moran Patton.
Other survivors include one son, Darwin Moran Patton of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin; two daughters, Ruth Ann Fairchild of Auxier, Mary Lee Colston of Spring, Texas; one brother, Donald Patton of Langley; two sisters, Margaret Beaven of Rancho Cordova, California, Florence Hall of Belleville, Michigan, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 23, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Dave Flanery officiating.
Burial will be in the Moran Family Cemetery, Auxier.
Active pallbearers for the funeral of Darwin Patton were Brian George, Christopher Colston, Roger Akers, Bob Hall, Robbie Hall, Ty Christopher Martin, Tyrone Martin and Ben Trimble.
