Margie Sue Scott Osborne, 65, of Eastern, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at her residence.
She was born December 4, 1935, in Garrett, the daughter of the late Hawley Scott and Effie Hicks Scott. She was a member of the Eastern Star No. 573, at Wayland.
Her husband, Billy J. Osborne, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Stanton Osborne, Larry Douglas Osborne, and Gary D. “Burr” Osborne, all of Eastern; two brothers, Ralph Scott of Garrett, Charles E. Scott of London; three half-brothers, Hawley David Scott of Inez, Thomas Scott and Harold L. Scott, both of Garrett; four sisters, Buretta Moore of Garrett, Betty Hopper and Shirley D. Jenkins, both of Hanging Rock, Ohio, Brenda Lawson of Eastern; one half-sister, Joanell Martin of Garrett; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 22, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Red Morris, officiating.
Burial will be in the Osborne Cemetery, at Eastern.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Margie Sue Scott Osborne were Joseph Scott, Jeff Lawson, J.R. Osborne, Steve Lafferty, Randy Moore, Ralph Scott Jr., David Scott, Kirk Blevins and Keith Scott.
Thelma R. Patton
Thelma R. Patton, 75, of McDowell, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born February 3, 1926, at McDowell, the daughter of the late Jim and Frankie Jane Slone Reynolds. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of the Regular Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Van Patton of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and Gary Patton of McDowell; one daughter, Patricia Stumbo of Minnie; one brother, Frank Reynolds of Printer; one sister, Velma Matthews of Hopkinsville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 21, 11 a.m., at the Little Rosa Regular Baptist Church, at McDowell, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Thelma R. Patton were Chris Strathmann, Herbie Matthews and Jason Reynolds.
Regene Smallwood Hunter
Regene Smallwood Hunter, 68, of Topmost, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on October 19, 1932, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Mary Keens Smallwood. She was a member of the United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clovis Hunter.
Other survivors include three sons, Daniel Hunter and Randall Hunter, both of Topmost, Ernie Hunter of Paintsville; five daughters, Iva Dale Osborne of Wayland, Kathy Hicks of Eastern, Polly Sexton, Teresa Osborne and Sharon Amburgey, all of Topmost; four sisters, Sadie K. Huff and Norma Jean Slone, both of Indiana, Nell Thornsberry of Morgan County, Cenellis Hampton of Hindman, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 19, at 10 a.m., at the Millcreek United Baptist Church at Wayland, with Clester Hall, Tommy Collett and Earnest Keens officiating.
Burial was in the Farris Moore Cemetery, at Topmost, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Marion Hurd Jr.
Marion Hurd Jr., 65, of Flat Lick, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born on February 3, 1936, in Knox County, he was the son of the late Marion Hurd Sr., and Bertie Warren Hurd. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Bell County. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Scott Hurd.
Other survivors include two sons, Jackie Hurd of Michigan, James McCoy of Richmond; five daughters, Rhonda Hurd Tackett, and Janice Hurd, both of Betsy Layne, Kathy Hurd Williams, of Ivel, Kathy Simmons of Sophia, North Carolina, Teresa Swaney of Ashboro, North Carolina; two sisters, Louise Sowders of Flat Lick and Deanna Messer of Corbin; one brother, Denver Hurd of Richmond; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Victory Baptist Church, Monday, February 19, at 11 a.m., with Rev. James Pauley, Rev. Larry Sowders and Rev. Larry Sowders Jr. officiating.
Graveside services were in the Stratton Cemetery in Stanville, Monday, February 19, at 4 p.m., with Rev. Arnold Turner Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers were Jamie Sowders, Scott Williams, Richard Tackett, Aaron Williams, Jason Hall, James McCoy, Ford Brook and Eugene Asher.
Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Hinkle, Rev. Denvil Taylor, Bill McCowan, B.J. Lundy, S.B. Gambrel, Bill Scott, David Asher, Jesse Simpson, Gary Mills and Derrick Poff.

Noble Burke
Noble Burke, 72, of Bevinsville, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following a brief illness.
Born on June 24, 1928, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Silas Burke and Goldie Johnson Burke. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Johnson Burke.
Other survivors include three daughters, Edna Lou Bates and Jane Ellen Tackett, both of Morehead, Lorraine Isaac of Bevinsville; three brothers, Hobert Burke, Homer Burke, and Silas Burke Jr., all of Bevinsville; one sister, Virble Spears of Bevinsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 20, at 11 a.m., at the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church at Bevinsville, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Silas Burke Cemetery, at Bevinsville, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Active pallbearers were his grandchildren: Terry Dwayne Bates, Bobby Bates, Danny Tackitt, Terry Isaac, Michael Mullins and Billy Reeves.
Herbert Wesley Whitaker
Herbert Wesley Whitaker, 17, of East Point, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at his residence.
Born September 10, 1983, in Floyd County, he was the son of Herbert Whitaker and Delorse Kaye Whitaker.
Survivors, other than his parents, include his maternal grandmother, Elsie Dotson and paternal grandparents, John and Mildred Whitaker, and one sister, Rebecca Kaye Whitaker of East Point.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 17, at 1 p.m., at the Whitaker Free Will Baptist Church, East Point, with Rev. Hubert Slone and Rev. Richard Greene officiating.
Burial was in the Whitaker Family Cemetery, East Point, under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
Phil (Dicktoe) Jones
Phil (Dicktoe) Jones, 34, of Bypro, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on July 17, 1966, in Sturgis, Michigan, he was the son of Elder Billy Ray Jones and Sarah Hall Jones of Bypro. He was a disabled laborer.
Survivors include two daughters, Tawana Jones, and Brionna Jones both of Allen; one brother, Bill Jones of Eastern; two sisters, Debbie Bakay of Bypro, and Shirley Hamilton of McDowell.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 16, at noon, at the Upper Burton Pentecostal Church, at Bypro, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery, at Bevinsville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Lena Allen
Lena Allen, 90, of Eastern, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at her residence.
She was born January 7, 1911, at Dema, the daughter of the late Miles and Ollie Mae Slone Jones. She was a member of the Caney Fork Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Allen.
She is survived by one son, Lee Edward Allen of Allen; two brothers, Curtis Jones of Glendale, Michigan and Herbert Jones of Wayne, Michigan; three sisters, Luna Combs of Prestonsburg, Verna Hall of Madison Heights, Michigan and Versa Addis of McDowell.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 18, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Turner Cemetery at Dema.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Lena Allen, were Gary Gibson, Robbie Allen, Larry Addis, and Dustin Addis.
