Hayes Dye, 78, of McDowell, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on May 27, 1922, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Allie Gearheart Dye. He was a disabled coal miner, a deacon and member of the Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church at Price.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Moore Dye.
Other survivors include one son, Hubert Dye of McDowell; five daughters, Dina Ellen Dye of Columbus, Ohio, Valerie Kidd of Lebanon, Ohio, Nesba Keethler and Vanessa Neff, both of Columbus, Ohio, Elizabeth Meek of Boons Camp; two brothers, Woodrow Dye of Printer, Kelly Dye of McDowell; one sister, Julie Caudill of Ashtabula, Oho, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 9, at 10 a.m., at the Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church at Price, with ministers of Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Orkney Cemetery, at McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation will be at the church after 6 p.m., Wednesday.
Billy Joe Stanley
Billy Joe Stanley, 59, of Harold, died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on March 12, 1941, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Morgan and Rebecca Riley Stanley. He was a disabled supervisor of Kelsey Hayes and Company, and was a member of the Lower Toler Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Lee Stanley.
Other survivors include one son, William Stanley of Harold; four step-sons, Jason Byers of Freemont, Ohio, Chad Byers and Adam Byers, both of Clyde, Ohio, Jeremy Byers of Green Springs, Ohio; three daughters, Tammy Shaver and Kim Heabler, both of Clyde, Ohio, Shawnda Shue of Freemont, Ohio; one step-daughter, Danielle Byers of Harold; four brothers, Bobby Stanley and Donald Stanley both of Clyde, Ohio, Paul Stanley of Harold, Herbert Stanley of Winchester; five grandchildren, and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 6, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Church of Christ ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
James E. Howell
James E. Howell, 72, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at his residence, as the result of a house fire.
He was born May 22, 1928, at Prestonsburg, the son of the late Fred K. and Minerva Jane Adams Howell. He was a retired B.F. Goodrich employee, a member of the Fitzpatrick Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Perry Howell.
Other survivors include two daughters, Diane Jane Whitt of West Liberty and Sondra Clifton of Prestonsburg; one brother, Kenneth Howell of Louisville; two sisters, Ruby Hall of East Point and Marlene Blevins of Prestonsburg, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 7, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Heater Jr., officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
Ricky L. Bryant
Ricky L. Bryant, 42, of Weeksbury, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born on November 2, 1958, in Floyd County, he was the son of Molly Johnson Bryant of Weeksbury, and the late Charles Bryant. He was a former coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Ann Little Bryant.
Other survivors include four daughters, Amanda Bryant, Ashley Bryant, Courtney Bryant, and Tara Bryant, all of Weeksbury; one brother, Darrell Bryant of Weeksbury; two sisters, Rhonda Hall and Connie Hall, both of Weeksbury.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 7, at noon at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church, at Melvin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Henry Tackett Cemetery, at Melvin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Joan Olah
Joan Olah, 49, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Drift, died Monday, February 5, 2001. She was a member of the Victory Chapel.
She is survived by her husband, James Olah.
She was the daughter of the late Curtis Carroll and Mollie Arnold.
Other survivors include one son, Johnny Martin of Pikeville; four sisters, Shirley Parsons, Pearlie Jackson, Ruby Wells and Rosetta Hale; two grandchildren, four stepchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 9, 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Pastor Robert Webb officiating.
Burial will be in the Drift Cemetery.
Cleopatra Howell
Cleopatra Howell, 49, of Wayland, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, following a brief illness.
Born on July 4, 1951, in Davao City, the Phillipines, she was the daughter of the late Eugenio and Dolores Bongcawil Buelis.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin Howell.
Survivors include one son, Ulysses A. Buelis of Nicholasville; one daughter, Teresalyne (Dimples) Brewer of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Perpetou Buelis and Maxludy Buelis, both of the Phillipines; four sisters, Dulcie B. Ibanez and Filipinas B. Buelis, both of the Phillipines, Liza B. Mein and Leticia B. Austin, both of Australia, one grandson and one step-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 5, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Lavonne Lafferty and others, officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Margaret S. Lockwood
Margaret S. Lockwood, 79, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Thursday, February 1, 2000, in Jewish Hospital, Louisville.
Born on August 20, 1921, in Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Betty Stephens. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Pancake Realty. She was a member of Tucker Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, H. Lee “Buck” Lockwood.
Other survivors include one son, Andrew Lockwood of Huntington; one daughter, Jenka Hubbard of Lexington; one sister, Virginia Beldon of Huntington; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 4, 2 p.m., at the Reger Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Quentin Lockwood and Pastor David Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, at Louisa.
Octavia Newsome
Octavia Newsome, 71, of Ligon, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on March 27, 1929, in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Hairm and Nervie Hall Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Newsome.
Survivors include two sons, Elbert Newsome of Ligon, Worley Hamilton of Galveston; one daughter, Naomi Slone of Wheelwright; two brothers, Frank Johnson of Beaver, John C. Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, May Hall of Beaver; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 3, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church at Teaberry, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Newsome Cemetery, at Ligon, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m., Thursday.
