Betsy Lou Mullins
Betsy Lou Mullins, 52, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Sunday, October 7, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on September 28, 1949, in Letcher County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Wilburn Collier and Cora McCray Collier.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Mullins.
Other survivors include three sons, James W. Collier of Timberville, Va., David W. Collier of Warsaw, Ind., Michael Collier of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Sherry Mullins of Warsaw, Ind., Amanda Collier of Timberville, Va.; six brothers, Ben Collier of Ohio, Eugene Collier, and Wilb Collier Jr., both of Portsmouth, Ohio, Tony Collier of Ky., Shorty Collier of Michigan, Ark Willis Collier of Tennessee; six sisters, Leona Cooper and Emma Rose Townsend of Elizabethtown, Ky., Oma Champion of London, Ky., Cora Mae Smith of Ind., Ivel Champion of Tenn., Violet Dyer of Portsmouth, Oh.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Adam Collier; one brother, Ervin Collier; three sisters, Amanda Howard, Zelma Lee Champion, Nanetta Maynard; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the D.W. Davis Funeral Home, in South Webster, Ohio.
Burial will be in the Collier Family Cemetery, Scioto Furance, Ohio.
Visitation was at the Drift Pentecostal Church on Monday, with a service on Tuesday, at 10 a.m.
Visitation was in Ohio, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Tuesday.
Local arrangements were in charge of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Oliver Marshall
Oliver Marshall, 82, of Langley, Ky., died Friday, October 5, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on June 30, 1919, in Floyd County, Ky., he was the son of the late Robert Marshall and Martha Warrens Marshall. He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Baptist Church, and UMWA, of Martin, Ky.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Belcher Marshall.
Other survivors include one son, Oliver Marshall Jr. of Claypool, Indiana; three daughters, Pamela Hines of Prestonsburg, Ky., Carol Bentley of Langley, Ky., Debbie Newsome of Harold, Ky.; two brothers, Arthur Marshall of Trinity, Tex., Bobby Marshall of Warsaw, Ind.; two sisters, Cindy Marie of Ohio, Rosa Lee of Florida, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Marshall; one brother, Albert Marshall; and two sisters, Girvie Marshall and Ellen Meadows.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 8, 2001, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Burial was in the Family Cemetery, Langley, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Raymond “Bascom” Samons
Raymond “Bascom” Samons, age 59, of Dearborn Heights, Mi., died on Thursday, Septem-ber 27, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on December 16, 1941, in Hi Hat, Ky., he was the son of the late George and Frances Martin Samons.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elva “Tootie” King Samons; one son, Edward Samons of Richmond, Ky.; two daughters, Sherry Linnert of Tayor, Mi., April Blackburn of Newan, Ga.; two brothers, Walter Samons and James Samons; seven sisters, Verlie Newnan, Mary North, Martha Combs, Evelyn Love, Velva Todd, Jean Hamilton, and Sylvia Rogers; and eight grandchildren, Justin, Kenneth and Brianna Samons, Daryl Ray and Ben Blackburn, Ashley, Jonathan, and Amanda Linnert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Leda Osborne.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Howe Peterson Funeral Home, Taylor, Mi.
Burial was in the Michigan Memorial Cemetery, Flat Rock, Mi.

Rupert (Rudy) Vernon Samons Jr.
Rupert (Rudy) Vernon Samons Jr., husband of Thelma Crum Samons, passed away Monday, October 8, 2001, at his residence.
He was born February 17, 1943, in Martin, Ky., the son of Katy Crum Samons of Martin, Ky., and the late Rupert Vernon Samons Sr. He was a certified electrician for Mine Power Products, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, and a member of the House of Prayer in Dwale, Ky.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, April Michelle Samons of Martin, Ky.; four sisters, Janis Newman, Sandra Crisp, Sari Slone, and Jerri Smith, all of Martin, Ky.; one grandchild, Cailtin Danielle Slone.
Funeral services for Rupert Samons Jr., will be conducted Thursday, October 11, 2001, at 12:00 noon, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergymen, Woodrow Crum and Elmer Davis, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Arvil Crum Memorial Cemetery, Martin, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Evelyn Marcella Ward
Evelyn Marcella Ward, 83, of Martin, Ky., died Monday, October 8, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky., following a brief illness.
Born on April 3, 1918, in Dinwood, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Earl Layne and Alma Dingus Layne. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Martin, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Ward.
Survivors include one son, Buddy B. Ward of Dinwood, Ky.; one daughter, Billie Jean Ward, of Lexington, Ky.; and one brother, Henry Layne of Dinwood, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Bob Ward.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 11, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church at Martin, Ky.
Burial will be in the Dingus Cemetery, Ward Section, Dinwood, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Pallbearers: Timmy Ward, Tommie Ward, Todd Ward, Trenton Ward, Chuck Ward, Bobby Ward, Brad Ward, and Chip Ward.
Visitation is at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Paul Dean Dotson
Paul Dean Dotson, 49, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Monday, October 8, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born September 5, 1952, in West Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of Dolle Stout Dotson and the late Paul Thurman Dotson. He was disabled.
Survivors, other than his mother, Dolle Stout Dotson, include one brother, Steve Edward (Sandy) Dotson of Indian Harbor Beach, Fl.; five sisters, Paula (Jay) Calhoun of Indianapolis, Ind., Doris (Randall) Francis of Georgetown, Ky., Rosalee Dotson of Lexington, Ky., Jean (Ron) LeMaster of Prestonsburg, Ky., Janet (Lewis) White of Prestonsburg, Ky.; several loving nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 10, at 1:00 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Floyd Price officiating.
Burial will be in the family cemetery, Ky. Rt. 114, Prestonsburg, Ky., under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky.
Pallbearers: Casey Jones, Randy Howell, Lewis K. White, Randall Francis, Daniel Evans, Jason LeMaster, Joseph LeMaster, Ron LeMaster, Jon Hale and Chad Shepherd.

Alice Reynolds Allen
Alice Reynolds Allen, age 86, of Prestonsburg, wife of John Allen for 65 years, died Wednesday, October 3, at her residence.
She was born June 12, 1915, in Martin, a daughter of the late William James and Rebecca Mayo Reynolds. Alice was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, John Allen Jr., Robert R. Allen, (Sally Burchett) and David D. Allen, (Barbara Dotson), all of Prestonsburg, and Stephen R. Allen, (Terri Hyden), Peyton, Co.; two daughters, Judith Colvin McCreary, (Bob) of Lexington, Mary Alice Leslie, (D. Richard) of Prestonsburg; She was affectionately called “Mommie Allen” by her 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Alice Reynolds Allen will be conducted Friday, October 5, at 1:00 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Dr. Wayne Sayre, and Dr. Floyd Price officiating.
Burial will follow in the John Allen Cemetery, (Sugar Loaf) Prestonsburg, with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Big Sandy, Box 277, Hager Hill, Ky. 41222.
Pallbearers: David D. Allen II, Robert R. Allen II, James D. Allen, Charles Michael Harris, John Wayne White, Michael Douglass and Roger Brian White.
