Virginia C. Hicks, 75, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
She was born November 27, 1925, at Martin, the daughter of the late Whits and Alva Ousley Click.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Hicks.
Other survivors include one son, Jeffrey Hicks of Prestonsburg; three daughters, Judith Crager of Flatwoods, Brenda Porter of Stanville, and Janet Hicks of Prestonsburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 25, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Pallbearers were Terry Sizemore, David Reffitt, John Martin Porter, John Richard Porter, Kelly Justice, Brian Nelson and Paul Reffitt.
Clellon Herbert Mullins
Clellon Herbert Mullins, 72, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 15, 1929, at Pikeville, the son of the late George Ed and Gustavia Smith Mullins. He was a retired plumber with Mullins Plumbing of Prestonsburg, a World War II veteran, and a member of Zebulon Lodge No. 273, F&AM.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Harris Mullins.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Mullins and Kevin Herbert Mullins, both of Prestonsburg; one brother, Jack Mullins of Columbus, Ohio; one half-brother, Bobby Dale Kinney of Pikeville; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 27, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with United Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Charlie Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Effie Mae George Cook
Effie Mae George Cook, 90, of East Point, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Born on September 1, 1910, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas George and Edith Stevens George.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Cook.
Survivors include one son, Thomas H. Cook Sr. of East Point; one daughter, Kathrine Mathis of Moorsville, North Carolina; two sisters, Thelma Thomas of South Shore, Mildred Branham of Prestonsburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 27, 1 p.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, Paintsville, with Dave Flanery officiating.
Burial was in the George Family Cemetery, at East Point.
Eston Sexton
Eston Sexton, 56, of Hindman, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born on June 22, 1944, at Omaha, he was the son of the late Robert Sexton and Haley Perry Sexton. He was self employed in the cooling and heating business.
He is survived by his wife, Nannie Belle Huff Sexton.
Other survivors include one son, Eston Donovan Sexton of Hindman; three daughters, Angela Lynn Hall of Litt Carr, April Sexton and Shawna Moore, both of Hindman; two sisters, Clara Hall and Cathy King, both of Wolcottville, Indiana; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 28, at 1 p.m., at the Hindman United Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the Calvin Huff Cemetery, at Hindman, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Everette McClanahan
Everette McClanahan, 78, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his residence.
Born on April 14, 1922, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Floyd McClanahan and Ella Spears McClanahan.
He retired from the engineering department with CSX Railway and was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Louisville, a member of Oleika Shrine Temple, Knights Templar, Hiram Council No. 70 R&SM, Louisville DeMolay, and Lyndon Masonic Lodge in Louisville. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Collins McClanahan.
Other survivors include one son, Phil D. McClanahan of Scottsdale, Arizona; one brother, Thelmer McClanahan of Pikeville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 29, 11 a.m., at the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home, with J. Edward Gayhart officiating.
Burial will be in the Johnson Memorial Park, at Staffordsville.
Active pallbearers will be Keith McCoil, Bruce Collins, Randy Collins, Hubert Spears, C. P. Mims, Charlie Collins, and Ruey Collins.
Otto Adams
Otto Adams, 74, of Monitor, Washington, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born December 5, 1926, the son of Daniel and Cynthia Manuel Adams at Prestonsburg. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Islands, and Korea, he was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and a member of the VFW Post 902. He was past commander of the American Legion and VFW. He was Chef de Gare of the Forty & Eight Voiture Locale No. 90, and board member of the Apple Valley T.V. Association, a volunteer for the V.A. medical bus, and an American Legion field service volunteer.
He owned an orchard in Monitor.
He is survived by his wife, Vina Shepherd Adams.
Other survivors include one son, Dan Adams of Monitor; one daughter, Joanne Palmer of East Wenatchee; one sister, Alma Rice of Walkerton, Indiana; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 29, 10 a.m., at Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, at Monitor, with chaplain Jim Uecker officiating.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Forty & Eight nurses scholarship fund.
Moses “Pete” Moore
Moses “Pete” Moore, 61, of Minnie, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the McDowell ARH.
He was born October 26, 1939, in McDowell, the son of the late Miles and Alvania Williams Moore. He was a construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra Rose Moore.
Other survivors include one daughter, Sharon Rose Moore of Pikeville; three brothers, Dennis Moore of San Natio, California, Eugene Moore of Cordes Lakes, Arizona, and Earl Moore of Glasgow; three sisters, Alice Lawson of McDowell, Norma Lambert of Kingsport, Tennessee, Josephine Lambert of Rittman, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 25, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Ted Shannon officiating.
Burial was in the Moore Family Cemetery, at McDowell.
Serving as pallbearers were Dwayne Lambert, John Gregory, Randall Howard, Rodney Sparkman, Barry D. Martin and Alan Howell.
Honorary pallbearers were Chris Moore, Dale Howell, Clifford Lambert, Stanley Allen and Scottie Allen, and all of his present and past co-workers.
Henry H. Meade
Henry H. Meade, 67, of Printer, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his residence, followng an extended illness.
Born on January 27, 1933, at Printer, he was the son of the late Robert and Bertha Alice Hamilton Meade.
He was a retired General Motors employee, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the Church of Christ, Prestonsburg.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois J. Hughes Meade.
He is survived by his wife, Mable Miller Meade.
Other survivors include four sons, Darrell Meade of Taylor, Michigan, Thomas Meade of Adrian, Michigan, Danny Miller and Reece Miller both of Martin; three daughters, Linda Keathley and Regina Miller, both of Martin, Etta Swope of Minnie; three brothers, James Meade and Ike Meade, both of Printer, Robert Meade Jr. of Stanville; eight sisters, Josephine Yates, Shirley Ann McKinney, Ethel Meade, and Gladys Harmon, all of Printer, Delsie Adams of Viper, Wanda Lee Riley of Harold, Irene Conn of Martin, Pauline Conn of Morehead, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 29, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, at Martin, with Thomas Meade, Ronnie Samons and Bruce Coleman officiating.
Burial will be in the Jeff Hunter Cemetery, at Printer.
