Opal Lee Goble, 87, of Auxier, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
Born on March 6, 1913, in Auxier, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Goble and Nola Crider Goble.
Her husband, Fred C. Goble, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Freddie L. Goble of Prestonsburg; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 26, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park, at Staffordsville.
Serving as active pallbearers for the funeral of Opal Lee Goble were Harry Hopkins, Joseph Crider, Frank Hyden, Thomas Brose Buskirk, Victor Goble and Danny McKenzie.
Honorary pallbearers were Darwin Patton, Robert Castle, Frank Buskirk, Lloyd Wells, Virgil “Babe” Isaac, Donald Patton, Woodridge Wells, James Mollette, Willard “Chick” McKenzie and Jimmy Goble.
Dorthula “Buddy” Farley Patton Spurlock
Dorthula “Buddy” Farley Patton Spurlock, 60, of Conway, Arkansas, formerly of Knott County, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Conway Memorial Hospital in Conway, Arkansas, following an extended illness.
Born on May 12, 1940, in Logan County, West, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Melvin and Mintie Hicks Farley. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Spurlock.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Patton, Elmer Patton, and Billy Patton all of Marion, Ohio, and Nathaniel Patton of Conway, Arkansas; five daughters, Freda Patton, Lovenda Patton, Sarah Patton, Betty Patton, and Bobby Joe Patton, all of Marion, Ohio; four brothers, Harold “Buddy” Farley and Tommy Farley, both of Hollybush, James Fraley Jr. of Eastern, Jackie Farley of Decoy; seven sisters, Carol Jean Orick of Edgerton, Ohio, Sylvia Patton of Garrett, Mavis Hicks of Corona, Indiana, Alice Triplett of Plymouth, Ohio, Lillie Slone of Hollybush, Billie Jack of Angola, Ohio, Christine Hutchinson of Montpelier, Ohio; 39 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and 19 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Sterlin and Bethel Bolen and Willie Collins officiating.
Burial will be in the Chaffins Cemetery, at Mousie.
Charles Nathaneal Akers
Charles Nathaneal Akers, 82, of East Point, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at his residence.
Born September 27, 1918, in Floyd County, he was a son of the late George and Mary Hughes Akers. He had been a coal miner and was a US Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Lorane Stanley Akers.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Akers of Seville, Ohio, and Roger Akers of East Point; three daughters, Beulah Ann Greene, Scarlet Shepherd and Cindy Estepp, all of East Point; a sister, Belva Howell of Prestonsburg; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 24, at 11 a.m., at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, with J.M. Sloce officiating. Burial will be in the Akers Family Cemetery at East Point.
James Milford Fitzpatrick
James Milford Fitzpatrick, 38, of Lackey, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at his residence, after a sudden illness.
He was born November 11, 1962, in Hindman, and was a son of the late James and Corine Stanley Fitzpatrick. He was a disabled factory worker.
Survivors include two daughters, Carey Nicole Conley of Hindman and Kristie Fitzpatrick of Martin; a sister, Sue Hall of Lackey; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, January 22, at 11 a.m., at the Lackey Freewill Baptist Church, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin. Burial was in the Lackey Cemetery.
Tinsley “Slim” Manns
Tinsley “Slim” Manns, 94, of Wayland, died Sunday, January 14, 2001, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital at Martin.
Born in Guage on December 18, 1906, he was a son of the late Tinsley Manns and Polly Hoskins Manns Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie Bolen Manns, caregiver, Ethel Coburn, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 17, at the Hindman Funeral Service Chapel, with Mike Caudill and Thomas Caudill officiating. Burial was in the Green Bolen Cemetery at Leburn.
Don Michael Riffe
Don Michael Riffe, 31, of Paintsville, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at his residence.
He was born June 13, 1969, in Williamson, West Virginia, a son of Lou Riffe Tackett and the late Don Cassady Riffe. He was a technician with Fannin’s Plumbing.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Brandi Maynard Riffe, a daughter, Cassidy Michaela Riffe, both of Paintsville, and his stepfather, Dicky Tackett.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 23, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, with Jerry Fannin officiating. Burial was in the Cline Cemetery at Inez.
Trylbia Hicks Osborne
Trylbia Hicks Osborne, 78, of Payne, Ohio, died Sunday, January 7, 2001.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Pyramid, the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Coburn Hicks. Her husband, Ezra Osborne, died in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Larry Osborne of Benton; one daughter, Challis Jean Lee of Paulding Ohio; three brothers, Bertral Hicks of Payne, Ohio, Delmer Hicks of Portsmouth; Garrett Keith Hicks of Convoy, Ohio; three sisters, Sylvia Raines of Grundy, Virginia, Katherine Onley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pearl Shannon Fulk of Antwerp, Ohio.
Burial was Wednesday, January 10, in Lehman Cemetery, Payne, Ohio.
Dora Shepherd Sizemore
Dora Shepherd Sizemore, 86, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born on December 6, 1914, in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Shepherd and Islant Shepherd.
Her husband, Dave Sizemore, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Lyda S. Caudill of Prestonsburg; one son Carl Sizemore of Morehead; two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 25, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Ted Shannon officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Dora S. Sizemore were David Sizemore, Adam Sizemore, Jeremy Caudill, Jerry Caudill, Cleve Shepherd, Ron Cooley and Jim Hammond.
Burial will be in the Reynolds-Sizemore Cemetery, Prestonsburg.
Orville Hall
Orville Hall, 87, of Hindman, died Monday, January 15, 2001, at the Knott County Nursing Home in Hindman.
He was born in Knott County, on April 8, 1913, a son of the late Walter and Louetta Watts Hall. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Slone Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Frankie Hall; two sons, Clyde Hall of McArthur, Ohio, and Woody Hall of Shalimar, Florida; two daughters, Wilma Huffman of Pickerington, Ohio, and Alma Blimes of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; three stepsons, Edward, Dennis and Leroy Handshoe, all of Hueysville; one stepdaughter, Tina Bolen of Hueysville; four brothers, Orbin Hall of Leburn, Clarence Hall of Garner, Harold Hall of Ohio, and Bill Hall; five sisters, Olive Elliott of Florida, Ida Pritchard of Dwale, Gracie Slone of Garner, Vina Slone of Wayland, and Marie Thacker of Leburn; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, January 18, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, with Milburn Slone, Ronnie Robinson and Danny Amburgey officiating. Burial was in the Slone Cemetery at Garner.
Johnnie Clatworthy
Johnnie Clatworthy, 64, of Estill, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born June 29, 1935, in Wayland, the son of the late John Charles Clatworthy and Oralee Yates Clatworthy. He was a retired coal miner, a member of UMWA Local No. 176, and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Jean Bradley Clatworthy.
Other survivors include three sons, John Charles Clatworthy of Tram, Clinton Ray Clatworthy of Wayland, Kevin Clatworthy of McDowell; four daughters, Dianna Lee Clatworthy of Dema, Lisa Jane Howell of Raven, Linda Jean Shepherd of Hueysville, Elizabeth Ann Clatworthy of Richmond; one brother, Willard H. Clatworthy of Williamsville, New Jersey; two sisters, Ora Lee Ratliff and Betty Jane Moore, both of Canton, Ohio; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 25, at 1 p.m., at the Martin Branch Freewill Baptist Church, at Estill, with Clergymen Red Morris and Jimmy Hall officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Johnnie Clatworthy were Charlie Clatworthy, Ray Bob Clatworthy, Kevin Clatworthy, B.J. Prater, Tommy Miller and Garrett Shepherd.
Burial will be in the Bradley Cemetery, at Wilson Creek, Langley, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
