Jimmie Edward Lawson
Jimmie Edward Lawson, 66, of McDowell, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Pikeville, following a long illness.
He was born January 11, 1935, in Drift, the son of Dixie Cornett Lawson, McDowell, and the late Dewey Morgan Lawson. He was a retired supervisor for Magnetek Industries, and U.S. Air Force, Korean War veteran.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one step-son, Bill McCoy of Columbia, City, Indiana; one daughter, Vicky Jennings of Martin; two brothers, Fred H. Lawson of Pikeville, Dewey D. Lawson of West Liberty; three sisters, Anna Rae Ward and Patricia Cieslak, both of McDowell, Glenda Lawson of High Point, North Carolina, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 26, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman officiating.
Burial was in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Timothy Buckley
Timothy Buckley, 50, of Lackey, died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was born in Covington, on June 18, 1950, a son of William and Rita Brossart Buckley.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Viola.
Funeral services were Thursday, January 18, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, with Milburn Slone officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Carrie.

Albert James
Albert James, 78, of Betsy Layne, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001.
Born on April 10, 1922, in Vernal, Utah, he was the son of the late Cecil Millard and Myrtle Anabell Johnson James. He was a self-employed vendor and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth James.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 11, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Archie Fugate officiating.
Burial was in Marvin Sparks Cemetery at Blaine.

Claude Bentley
Claude Bentley, 63, of Grethel, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born October 28, 1937, in Ligon, the son of the late Tim Bentley and Mary Elizabeth Henson Bentley. He was a retired coal miner and a Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Jones.
Other survivors include three daughters, Denise Stewart of Prestonsburg, Lucia Ann Hamilton and Stefanie Lynn Kidd, both of Stanville; one sister, Draxie Newsome of Ligon; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 19, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Louis Frenoy officiating.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Claude Bentley were Jay Dye, Stacy Hall, Mark Daugherty, Jim Kidwell, Brian Jones and Dean Hamilton.
Honorary pallbearers were Garry Newsome and Darrell Daugherty.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.

Eloise Adkins
Eloise Adkins, 61, of Harold, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on July 5, 1939, in Dana, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Della Boyd Kidd. She was a member of the Sammy Clark Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Adkins.
Survivors include one daughter, Lee Ann Adkins of Harold; five brothers, Hershell Kidd, Harold Kidd, and James Kidd, all of Dana, Lee Kidd Jr. and Bobby Kidd, both of Ivel; four sisters, Offie Jarrells of Dana, Agnes Davis of David, Phyllis Newsome of Frankfort, Gail Harvey of Honaker; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 19, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Bobby Joe Spencer and Jody Spencer officiating.
Burial will be in the Boyd Cemetery, at Dana.

Juanita Harrington Conn
Juanita Harrington Conn, 64, of Honaker, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on June 3, 1936, in Harold, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Caroline Marshall Harrington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B. R. Conn.
Survivors include one son, Danny Ray Conn of Honaker; one sister, Cora Taylor of Constantine, Michigan, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 19, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Woody Crum officiating.
Burial was in the Martin Cemetery.

Olive Mullins
Olive Mullins, 56, of Hi Hat, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on March 21, 1944, in McDowell, she was the daughter of the late Calaway and Aggie Osborne Paige. She was a custodian for McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital and was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church at Hi Hat.
She is survived by her husband, Claude H. Mullins.
Survivors include two sons, Rodney Mosley of McDowell, Keith Mosley of Springfield, Pennsylvania; one stepson, Claude H. Mullins Jr. of Louisville; one daughter, Linda Sue Hall of Topmost; three brothers, James Paige, Denver Paige and Delmer Paige, all of McDowell; one sister, Bonnie Hamilton of Cave Run; five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 20, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, at Martin, with Harry Hargis and Don Fraley Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery, at McDowell.

Richard Franklin “Frankie” Spencer
Richard Franklin “Frankie” Spencer, 48, of Paintsville, died Monday, January 15, 2001, at his residence.
Born on September 24, 1952, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late George Spencer and Mildred Davis Spencer.
Survivors include six sons, Jeffery Spencer of Wabash, Indiana, Kalen Spencer, Casey Spencer, Corey Spencer, all of Paintsville, Shane Spencer of Prestonsburg, and Carlos Morgan of Royalton; three brothers, Ed Spencer of Paintsville, David Spencer of Martin, Steve Spencer of Auxier; four sisters, Penny Fairchild, Beatrice Sergent and Janice Houston, all of Paintsville, and Diana Barnes of Winchester.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 18, at 11 a.m., in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel, Paintsville, with Ted Shannon officiating.
Burial was in the Spencer Family Cemetery, Paintsville.

Loretta Mullins Stephens
Loretta Mullins Stephens, 53, of State Road Fork, Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, January 17, at Highlands Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.
Born September 30, 1947, in Garrett, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Prater and Lula Prater. She was a member of the Faith Independent Freewill Baptist Church, Prestonsburg, and was a volunteer fire fighter with the Middle Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar (Ed) Stephens.
Other survivors include one daughter, Angela S. DeRossett of Prestonsburg; one son, Dewey E. Stephens of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Patty Sue Prater of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Lillian Joseph of Salyersville; two brothers, Arthur Prater Jr. of Lorain, Ohio, Charlie Prater and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 20, at 11 a.m., at the Faith Independent Freewill Baptist Church, with Buddy Jones officiating.
Burial will be in the Ousley Family Cemetery, at Martin, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
