Albert Richard James, 78, of Betsy Layne, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001.
Born April 10, 1922, in Vernal, Utah, he was the son of the late Cecil Millard James and Myrtle Anabell Johnson James. He was a self employed vendor and a W.W. II U.S. Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth James.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Jones of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville, with Archie Fugate officiating.
Burial was in the Marvin Sparks Cemetery, at Blaine.
Frank Layne Caldwell
Frank Layne Caldwell, 95, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Born in Floyd County, he was the son of the late James Caldwell and Virginia Layne Caldwell.
He was a retired grocery owner and was a member of Clermont First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Stanley Caldwell.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Clark of Bowling Green; one son, James Robert Caldwell of Tallahassee, Florida; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 10, at the J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, Bowling Green.
Burial was in the Oakhill Cemetery, Clermont, Florida.
Evan Tackett Jr.
Evan Tackett Jr., 57, of Printer, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg.
Born on August 18, 1943, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Evan and Beatrice Tackett. He was a disabled sawmill employee.
He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Maxie Meade Tackett.
Survivors include one brother, John Tackett of Printer.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 11, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Denver Meade officiatng.
Burial was in the Jeff Hunter Cemetery, at Printer.
Timothy Hunt
Timothy Hunt, 34, of Centre, Alabama, formerly of Floyd County, died Saturday, January 7, 2001, at Gadsden, Alabama, following an automobile accident.
Born on July 6, 1966, in Prestonsburg, he was the son of the late Lester Burgess Hunt and Donna Rita Branham Hunt. He was a mechanic.
Survivors include one brother, Michael Hunt of Dry Ridge.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 11, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Nathan Lafferty officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Chalmer Blevins
Chalmer Blevins, 77, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born August 11, 1923, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Smith Blevins and Clara Adams Blevins. He was a self-employed taxi owner and driver, and was a W.W. II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Blevins.
Other survivors include a daughter, Judy Jones of Ypsilanti, Michigan; one sister, Phyllis Jean Ford of Staffordsville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 12, at the Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church, at Nippa, with James Kelly Caudill and Larry Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park, at Staffordsville, under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
Freddie Williams
Freddie Williams, 67, of Prestonsburg, retired body shop owner, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, in the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
He was born May 4, 1933, in Martin, a son of the late W.B. Williams and Babe Dingus Graham. He was a graduate of Millersburg Military Institute, Betsy Layne High School, and was a Korean War army veteran.
He is survived by two sons, Shawn Williams of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jody Williams of Louisville; one daughter, Susie Williams Rakotz of Gastonia, North Carolina; one sister, Judy Williams Perry of Paintsville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 9, at 1 p.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Clergyman John Paul Salyer officiating.
Burial was in the Mandy Dingus Cemetery, at Martin.
Pallbearers were Jackie Rowe, Carl Blair, Mike Lowe, Steve Lowe, Tim Parks, Jamie Daniels, Jack Slone and Kent Rose.
Josephine Jervis
Josephine Jervis, 78, of Endicott, died Monday, January 8, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
She was born January 14, 1922, in Prestonsburg, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Clay Hatfield. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Jervis.
Other survivors include four sons, Freddie Jervis of Circleville, Ohio, Jeffery Jarvis and Johnny Jervis, both of Endicott, Stanley Jervis of Prestonsburg; six daughters, Maggie Damron of Tram, Lou Jane Hunter of Mansfield, Ohio, Shirley Jervis, Mary Ann Burchett, Rosetta Ward, and Roberta Burchett, all of Endicott; three sisters, Emogene Burchfield of Rochester, Michigan, Marie Jarvis of Pontiac, Michigan, Dolly Blevins of Tram; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 11, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Bennie Blankenship and Delmar Jervis officiating.
Burial will be in the Jervis Cemetery at Endicott.
Robert Lee Burchett
Robert Lee Burchett, 74, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital, in Lexington, after an extended illness.
He was born September 10, 1926, in Pike County, the son of the late Ermine and Ida Clark Burchett.
He was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Lowe Burchett.
Other survivors include two sons, Jimmy Burchett and Scott Burchett, both of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Brenda Burchett of Prestonsburg, Kathy Jarvis of Banner; one brother, Willie Burchett of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Garnet Ward of Columbus, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 9, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel in Prestonsburg.
Burial was in the Burchett Cemetery at Goble Branch Rd., Prestonsburg.
Roger Dale Cartmell
Roger Dale Cartmell, 51, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on July 5, 1949, in Pike County, he was the son of Bert and Nell Thompson Cartmell. He was a disabled laborer.
Survivors include one son, Nathan M. Cartmell of Lexington; one daughter, Racheal F.Cartmell of Lexington; one brother, Bert Douglas Cartmell of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Karen Lynn Warrix and Joan S. Hite, both of Prestonsburg; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 10, at 11a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Hillary Underwood of Zebulon Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will be in the Bent Ridge Cemetery, at Meta.
