Terry Lynn Howell, 41, of Wayland, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at the U.K. Medical Center, Lexington.
Born June 25, 1961, at Ft. Campbell, she was the daughter of Jerald Ashley of Massena, New York, and Angelin Pomeroy Custer of Clarksville, Tennessee; her step-father is Jerry Custer of Clarksville, Tennessee.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Howell.
Survivors, other than her husband, parents and step-father, include one son, Virgil Wayne Howell of Martin; one daughter, Amber Ashley of Wayland; two brothers, Jerry Ashley of Massena, New York, and Anthony Foster of Colorado; two sisters, Rebecca Hendeson of Moira, New York, and Janie Russell of Bushton, New York; three grandchildren, Zachary Jervis, Aleah Moore, and Sierra Howell.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 1, 11 a.m., at the Martin Branch Freewill Baptist Church at Estill, with ministers of the Freewill Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Boyd Cemetery, at Price, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is at the church.
Stella (Kirk) Copley
Stella (Kirk) Copley, age 83, of Prestonsburg, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, after an extended illness.
She was born June 11, 1919, at Pilgrim, a daughter of the late Clay and Maggie (Underwood) Kirk. She worked for the Davis’ Market as a grocery clerk.
She was married
to Raymond Copley who preceded her in death. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Prestonsburg; a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 24, and Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 31, in Prestonsburg.
She is survived by two sons, Forrest Copley of Shreiveport, Louisiana, and Glenn M. (Shorty) Copley of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Margaret Blair of Glasgow; one brother, Russell Kirk of Lovely; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 29, at 11 a.m., from the Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Martin Tackett officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
All arrangements under the direction of Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Liza Flanary
Liza Flanary, age 92, of Beaver, widow of Alvin Flanary, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1910, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Pharaoh Bryant and Betty Bryant.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Gail Tackett of Beaver; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Eugene Flanary; and Leon Flanary; two daughters, Christine Hall and Daphine Flanary; and three sisters.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday, November 29, at 1 p.m., at the Newsome Cemetery, Little Robinson Creek, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Dennis Ray Lafferty Jr.
Dennis Ray Lafferty Jr., 53, of Allen, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born April 23, 1949, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Dennis and Angie Fannin Lafferty Blackburn.
Survivors include one daughter, Liz Keller of Prestonsburg; five brothers, Bradis Lafferty of Dwale; Lester Blackburn, Adrian Blackburn, Paul Blackburn and Ellis Blackburn, all of Prestonsburg; four sisters, Launa (Carol) Slone and Martha Hall, both of Prestonsburg, Marlene Carroll of Harold; and Janet Blackburn of Louisville; and one grandson, Aaron Ousley of Prestonsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Lafferty; one sister, Nellie Blackburn; and his step-father, Adrian Blackburn.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 29, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Gordon Fitch officiating.
Burial will be in the Lafferty Cemetery at Sitka, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at 6 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Alice Mae Conley
Alice Mae Conley, 77, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Price, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Nature Trail Healthcare in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Born April 28, 1925, at Price, she was the daughter of the late Burgess and Rhoda Moore Compton.
She is survived by her husband, James Estil (Red) Conley.
Other survivors include one son, Jimmy Michael Conley of Benton, Illinois; one brother, Omery D. Compton (wife, Juanita) of Price; one sister, Gertrude Rose (husband, Orville Vernon) of Price; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Eileen Conley of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Joanna Michelle Flota (husband, Michael) of Davis, California; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ashland “Pete” Compton.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 29, at 11 a.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Orville Vernon Rose and Woodrow Dye officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Cemetery at Price, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the funeral.
Lacie Howell Pratt
Lacie Howell Pratt, 77, of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Daysprings Care Center.
She was born November 2, 1925, in McDowell, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Hobert and Tildy (Osborn) Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Pratt.
She is survived by a son, Claude Pratt of Spanaway, Washington; a daughter, Deloris Kelley of Enon, Ohio; three brothers, Edward Howell of Detroit, Michigan, Crit Howell of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Billy Howell of Burnside, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Craig Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, Karen Kelley, Tammy Kelley and Jay Kelley; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Kelley and Josh, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Reed and Claude Howell; and two sisters, Georgia Hampton and Ruby Howell.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 2, at 10 a.m., at Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, Ohio, with Dr. Stewart Snow officiating.
Burial will be in Byron Cemetery, under the direction of Burcham Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.
Bill Bailey Hall
Bill Bailey Hall, age 49, of Printer, husband of Norce Conn Hall passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
He was born April 9, 1953, in Honaker, the son of Shirley Case Hall of Printer, and the late Azzie B. Hall. He was a former coal miner and a member of the Church of Christ for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, and mother; two sons, Christopher Thomas Hall of Ivel, and Billy Ray Hall of Pikeville; five brothers, Mike Hall, Terry Hall, Earl Hall, and Azzie B. Hall Jr. all of Printer, and Dewey Hall of Honaker; two sisters, Joan Kidd of West Liberty, and Rosie Hall of Grethel; and two grandchildren.
In addition of his father he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Ann Hall.
Funeral services for Bill Bailey Hall will be conducted Saturday, November 30, at 1 p.m., at the Spurlock Church of Christ of Printer, with the clergymen, Bruce Coleman and Richard Bowens, officiating.
Burial will be in the Conn Cemetery, at Printer, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is Wednesday, after 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Tannie Jones
Tannie Jones, 94, of Allen, died November 22, 2002, at her residence.
Born March 11, 1908, in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Phil May and Jane Conn May. She was a retired store owner for Mary Carter Paints, and was a member of Pikeville Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was first married
to Birl Akers, who preceded her in death, and later to Paul Jones, who survives her.
Other survivors include one daughter, Betty Jane Shepherd of Allen; one grandson, Randall C. (Sherry) Shepherd of Allen; great-grandsons, Michael and Austin Shepherd, both of Allen.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Noah May, Harvey May, Jeff May, Dan May, and Bennie May; three sisters; one infant sister, Dolly Sturgill and Della Brewer.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 25, at 1 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Edgar McKinney officiating.
Burial was in the Johnson Memorial Park, at Pikeville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
