Lucille Watkins Shepherd, 74, of Hueysville, died Friday, November 1, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born February 27, 1928, in Hueysville, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Polly Patrick Watkins.
She is survived by her husband, John Clayton Shepherd.
Other survivors include one son, Roger Gillispie of Ironton, Ohio; one brother, Donald Watkins of Wabash, Indiana; two sisters, Emma Sexton of Hueysville, and Beulah Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald “Josh” Watkins; and two sisters, Orcie Clevinger and Carol Stevens.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 4, at 1 p.m., at Brushy Fork Missionary Baptist Church at Gunlock, with Ollie Watts officiating.
Burial was in the Raleigh Shepherd Family Cemetery at Gunlock, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was Saturday after 4 p.m., at the funeral home; and Sunday, after 4 p.m., at the church.
Betty Louise Richardson Smith
Betty Louise Richardson Smith, age 63, of Prestonsburg, wife of Frank Smith, passed away Friday, November 1, 2002, in the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, following an extended illness.
She was born March 1, 1939, in Lynch, the daughter of the late Homer Howard Richardson and Eunice Sivils Richardson. She was a retired teacher of the Magoffin County school systems, a member of the Magoffin and Floyd counties Retired Teacher Association and Kentucky Retired Teacher Association.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, and one son, Randy Smith of Van Lear; one daughter, Karen Allen of Eastern; four sisters, Joanne Dyer and Shirley Wilkes, both of Johnson City, Tennessee, Mary Frances Barker of Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Laura Sue Kelly of Tazewell, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Tiffany Jo Smith, Homer Todd Smith, Victoria Lynn Blackburn Smith, and Alexandria Nicole Blackburn Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Frank Smith Jr.
Funeral services for Betty Louise Richardson Smith were conducted Monday, November 4, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with David Profitt officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Alan Curtis Duncan
Alan Curtis Duncan, 47, of Betsy Layne, died Monday, November 4, 2002, at his residence.
Born July 17, 1955, in Louisville, he was the son of Theodore and Martha Duncan of Louisville. He was a retired brick mason.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gayle Keathley Duncan.
Survivors, other than his parentsand his wfe, include two sons, Stephen Crawford Duncan and wife, Angela, of Georgetown, and Charles Alan Duncan of Betsy Layne; one daughter, Misty Dawn Duncan of Betsy Layne; five brothers, Teddy Duncan, Terry Duncan and Dewayne Duncan all of Louisville, Gary Duncan of Allen, and Mark Duncan of Clarksville, Indiana; three sisters, Janie, Debbie, and Tammy.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 8, at 1 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Sam Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Samuel May Leslie
Samuel May Leslie, 85, of Emma, died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born February 27, 1917, in Emma, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Leslie and Byrde May Leslie. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a United States veteran, and a member of the Emma United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Garret Leslie.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth and Wilma L. Leslie of Emma, Amos and Donna Leslie of Emma; one daughter, Muriel and Jerry Conway of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Leslie; and one sister, Ann Goble.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 4, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Paul Aikens, Jim Sherman, and Arnold Turner officiating.
Burial was in the Mayo Cemetery at Lancer, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Robert L. Collins Sr.
Robert L. Collins Sr., age 71, of Greenfield, Ohio, died Thursday, October 31, 2002, at Greenfield Area Medical Center.
Born February 15, 1931, at Estill, he was the son of the late James H. Collins and Virginia (Blankenship) Collins. He was a machine operator and quality control inspector for Timken Co., Columbus, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 4736, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Charter 92, Madison County. He was a member of the Greenfield Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie Lee Collins and James H. Collins; and one brother, James T. Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Jane (Mossbarger) Collins; three sons, Robert Collins Jr., of Mt. Sterling, and Danny R. Collins and Randy D. Collins, both of Washington, Court House; two daughters, April Lynn Collins and Tammy Jo Adkins, both of Greenfield; two step-sons, James Fabin, of Bloomingburg, and Jay Fabin, of Greenfield; one step-daughter, Jane Jones, of Clifton Mills; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 4, at 2 p.m., at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home, Greenfield. Pastor John Hays will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, with Veterans Appreciation Services to be held at 7:30 p.m.

Blanche Burchett Cox
Blanche (Burchett) Cox, age 69, of Prestonsburg, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born January 25, 1933, at Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Rebecca (Burchett) Burchett. She had worked for the Floyd County School System as a teacher’s aide. She was the wife of James W. Cox, of Louisville, formerly of Prestonsburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five brothers, Mr. Clyde Burchett, Mr. Ray Burchett, and Mr. Gayle Burchett, all of Prestonsburg, Mr. Bernard Burchett, of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Mr. Jack Burchett, of Lucasville, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Gearldine Cesco and Mrs. Virginia Wallace, both of Prestonsburg, and Mrs. Tommie Jean Richardson, of Columbus, Georgia.
Funeral services for Blanche Burchett Cox will be conducted Saturday, November 2, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Burke Funeral Home. Officiating minister will be Rev. Bobby Carpenter.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens Cemetery, at Ivel.

Charles E. Flannery Sr.
Charles E. Flannery Sr., age 81, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, in his home. He was born on June 27, 1921, in Martin, Kentucky, the son of William and Clarinda (Johnson) Flannery. He had lived and worked in the Jackson area for 65 years, retiring from the Jackson State Prison in 1977.
A member of the Church of Latter Day Saints of the Jackson Ward, Charlie was a National Champion Fiddle player, an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a song writer. He liked to collect and make knives.
On May 13, 1951, he married
Audrey Lennemann and they had six children. Suriviving are four children, Clarinda (Paul) Klawitter, John (Tonni) Flannery, all of Pleasant Lake; Patrick (Stephanie) Flannery, of Fort Polk, Louisana; and Mary (Kenneth) Winters, of Jackson. One sister, Susan (Roy) Hagg, of Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three wives, Audrey Lennemann, Margarethe Stone, and Pauline Hale; two sons, Charles E. Flannery Jr., and baby boy Flannery; six brothers and seven sisters. Funeral Services were Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge, with Bishop Vern Crawford officiating. Burial followed in at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Charles Flannery Musical Memorial Scholarship Fund. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, from 4-9 p.m.
Rodney D. Salisbury
Rodney D. Salisbury, age 72, of Southgate, Michigan, formerly of Martin, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2002, at his residence.
Born March 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Ted Salisbury and Lucy Casebolt Salisbury. He was a retired counselor at Brake Junior High School, in Taylor, Michigan. He was a member of the Golden Ark Masonic Lodge No. 595, Taylor, Michigan, and was a U.S. Army, Korean War veteran.
He was the beloved uncle of Clara (Ron) Marks, Jennifer Marks, Austin Marks, and Amanda Martin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Martin, and his beloved cousin, Charlene Bush.
Funeral services for Rodney D. Salisbury were conducted Monday, October 28, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin. Clergyman Gary Mitchell officiated.
Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Pallbearers for Rodney D. Salisbury were: Ed Amburgey, Shelly Amburgey, Jamie Bush, Austin Marks, Ron Marks, and Richard Salisbury.
Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Bush, Jobie Click Jr., Keith Hall, and Franklin “Sambo” Salisbury.
Visitation and Masonic services were held at the funeral home.
