Norma Cook Martin
Norma Cook Martin, age 87, of Bevinsville, Ky., widow of Bill Martin, passed away, Monday, November 19, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky., following an extended illness.
She was born February 19, 1914, in Kite, Ky., the daughter of the late Bill Cook and Maggie Harris Cook. She was a retired postmaster at Halo, Ky., for 21 years, and was a member of the Little Rock Regular Baptist Church since June 17, 1964.
Survivors include one daughter, Gwendolyn Kaye Woods and her husband, Darwin Woods Jr. of Bevinsville, Ky.; three sisters, Veda Blankenship of Hi Hat, Ky., Sue Moore of Bevinsville, Ky., Herma Lee Combs of West Alexandria, Oh.; two grandchildren, Rodney Estill Woods of El Paso, Tx., Ramona Kay Moore of Bevinsville, Ky., and three great-grandchildren, Dakota Moore, Destiny Moore, and Jasmine Woods.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Lester Martin; one daughter, Hamel Johnson; three brothers, Barksdale Cook, Curtis Cook, Albert Slon;, and one sister, Dixie Bates.
Funeral services for Norma Cook Martin will be conducted Friday, November 23, 2001, at 10:00 a.m., at the Little Rock Regular Baptist Church, Bevinsville, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is after 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the church.
Pallbearers: Rodney Woods, Barry Moore, Keith Johnson, Donald Martin, Quincy Cook, Phillip Cook and Dakota Moore.

Martha Jean Hicks Prater
Martha Jean Hicks Prater, age 90, of Carroll, Oh., formerly of Hueysville and Morehead, Ky., wife of the late James “Jimmy” Prater, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2001, in the Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Oh.
She was born April 12, 1911, in Hippo, Ky., the daughter of the late Buck Elam Hicks and Julia Hale Hicks. She was a member of the Philadelphia Regular Baptist Church, Hippo, Ky., since 1939, was a reporter and writer for the senior citizens at the Morehead News.
Survivors include one son, James Ishmael Prater of Columbus, Oh.; one brother, Samuel Hicks of Cincinnati, Oh.; one sister, Maggie Stephenson of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Curtis Hicks, Frank Hicks, Leonard Hicks and Preston D. Hicks; and one sister, Marjorie Smith.
Funeral services for Martha Jean Hicks Prater will be conducted Wednesday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the elders, Ersel Huff and Roger Hicks, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery, (Brush Creek), Hueysville, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Marcella Slone
Marcella Slone, age 55, of Prestonsburg, Ky., wife of Phillip Slone, passed away Monday, November 19, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky., following an extended illness.
She was born July 6, 1946, in Dema, Ky., the daughter of Eula Mae Hall Jones of Dema, Ky., and the late Earl “Chip” Jones. She was a retired teacher for the Floyd County School System, a member of the Community Methodist Church, Prestons-burg, Ky., the FCA and the KEA.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Julie Slone and Kimberly Slone, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; three brothers, Glen Jones of Mt. Orb, Oh., William Jones of Cincinnati, Oh., Thomas Jones of London, Ky., and two sisters, Della Martin of Corbin, Ky., and Ida Parsons of Winchester, Ky.
Funeral services for Marcella Slone will be conducted Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Community Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, Ky., with the clergyman, Steve Pescosolido, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Whitt Martin Cemetery, Dema, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Gordon Lee Williamson
Gordon Lee Williamson, age 78, of Harold, Ky., husband of Jean Robinette Williamson, passed away Monday, November 19, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky., following a brief illness.
He was born September 29, 1923, in Floyd County, Ky., the son of the late Ferrell Williamson and Dovie Mills Williamson. He was a retired coal miner, a U.S. Army, World War II veteran, and a member of the Betsy Layne Chapter of the DAV.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Linda Salyor and husband, Laycel “Don” Saylor of Harold, Ky.; one brother, Howard Williamson of W.Va.; two sisters, Madonna Wallen of Pikeville, Ky., Earlena McGill of Michigan; one grandchild, Christopher Saylor, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Gordon Lee Williamson will be conducted Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Speaker Heiko Giese officiating.
Burial was in the Bush Cemetery, Harold, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Jessie Lee Johnson Eagle
Jessie Lee Johnson Eagle, 64, of Troy, Michigan, formerly of Kentucky, died Monday, November 19, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on March 18, 1937, at Wheelwright, Ky., she was raised by Bessie Johnson Adams of Troy, Michigan. She was a homemaker and member of the Clawson-Troy Elk Club.
She is survived by her husband, Roland Stanley Eagle.
Other survivors include one son, Brian (Elaine) Reece of Grand Blanc, Michigan; one daughter, Cindy Lee (Michael) Bower of Catlett, Va.; one sister, Edna (Junior) Turner of Geneva, Oh.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Louis Ferrari officiating.
Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery, Bevinsville, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation will be at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, after noon on Friday.

Toney Scott
Toney Scott, 63, of Hueysville, Ky., died Saturday, November 17, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on November 24, 1937, in Hueysville, Ky., he was the son of the late Elbert Scott and Mattie Hoover Scott. He was a disabled coal miner and member of the Church of Christ at Hueysville, Ky.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Sparkman Scott.
Other survivors include: two sons, Curtis Lee Scott and Kenny Wayne Scott of Hueysville, Ky.; two daughters, Kathy Prater and Karen Scott, both of Hueysville, Ky.; three brothers, Verlie Scott and Cecil Scott, both of Ohio, Odel Scott of Eastern, Ky.; two sisters, Clova Fuller of Hueysville, Ky., Dorain Sears of Covington, Ky.; one granddaughter he raised, Heather Jo Shepherd of Hueysville, Ky. and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 19, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Christ, at Hueysville, Ky., with Chester Varney and Clay Noble officiating.
Burial was in the Sparkman Cemetery, Salyers Branch, Hueysville, Ky.
Visitation was at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Ell Howard
Ell Howard, 76, of Hueysville, Ky., died Sunday, November 11, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born on January 21, 1925, in Magoffin County, he was the son of Tony Howard and Grace Hicks Howard. He was a member of Salt Lick Community United Baptist Church, former magistrate and road supervisor in Magoffin County, member of Disabled American Veterans, member of the V.F.W., Salyersville, Ky., and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Ovie Terry Howard.
Other survivors include eight sons, Graydon Howard, and Dayton Howard, both of Sturgis Mich., Tilden Howard of Blue River, Ky., Kenneth Combs, Elden Howard, Stanley Neil Howard, and Eric Shepherd, all of Hueysville, Ky., Hannon Howard of Staffordsville, Ky.; four daughters, Sharon Greenleaf of Sturgis Mich., Grace Shepherd of Gunlock, Ky., Tina Bailey of Martin, Ky., Glenna Slone of Hueysville, Ky.; two brothers, Edd Howard and Paul Howard, both of Garrett, Ind.; four sisters, Mavis Vanderpool, Glenna Rugman, Mary Iceman, all of Garrett, Ind., and Emelgie Dennis of Indianapolis, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Carlos Beverly, Lee Combs, and Simon Porter officiating.
Burial will be in the Howard Cemetery, at Gunlock, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
