Nell Lemaster Hughes, 75, of Prestonsburg, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born September 20, 1927, in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late William Herbert LeMaster and Beulah Blanton Lemaster. She was a homemaker and attended Long Fork United Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Larry Hughes (Vicki) and one brother, Paul Lemaster, all of Prestonsburg; two grandsons, Alex Hughes of Pikeville, and Larry Hughes II, of Forest Hills; one granddaughter, Victoria Lauren Hughes of Prestonsburg; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 12, at 2 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder John Pelphrey and Elder Press Hughes officiating.
Interment was in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
The Carter Funeral Home served the Hughes family.
Pallbearers: Alex Hughes, Larry Hughes II, Bobby Wells Jr., Keith Hughes, Pete Lemaster, David Lemaster, and Herbert Lemaster.
Maggie Arnett Dotson
Maggie Arnett Dotson, 88, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, October 21, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born July 29, 1914, in MaGoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Mort Arnett and Bessie Shepherd Arnett. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dotson, who died January 30, 1972.
Survivors include three sons, Willard Dotson and Bob Dotson, both of Prestonsburg, Greely Dotson of Grove City, Ohio; four sisters, Charity Wireman of Salyersville, Sarah Davis and Bonnie Davis, both of David; and Grace Wireman of Chelsea, Michigan; two brothers, Clark Arnett of Torrance, California and Claude Arnett of Chelsea, Michigan; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 24, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Dotson Pentecostal Church, with Rev. Larry Adams officiating.
Interment will be in the Dotson Family Cemetery, Ruff and Tuff Branch, Prestonsburg.
Visitation is 2 p.m., until 9 p.m., Wednesday.
Dona Tackett
Dona Tackett, age 84, of McDowell, widow of Lawrence Tackett Jr., passed away Saturday, October 19, 2002, in the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born November 10, 1917, in Teaberry, and was the daughter of the late Monroe Newsome and Pricy Hamilton Newsome. She was a member of the Little Rosa Regular Baptist Church of New Salem Association, McDowell, and she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirleen Elliott and Vivani Akers, both of McDowell, Thelma Dye of Price; five brothers, Reo Newsome and Leo Newsome, both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Kelzo Newsome of Belleville, Michigan, Lloyd Newsome and Boyd Newsome, both of Huntington, Indiana; one step-brother, Floyd Johnson of Wheelwright; four sisters, Goldie Jordan of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Wilma Plaktus of Huntington, Indiana, Anilene Fleenor of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Beulah Bieber of Hoopston, Illinois; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charled Edward Tackett; two brothers, Ola and Alvin Newsom; two sisters, Lona Greiser and Thelma Mitchell.
Funeral services for Dona Tackett were conducted Tuesday, October 22, at 11 a.m., in the Little Salem Regular Baptist Church of New Salem Association, McDowell, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Tackett Family Cemetery, Bill Hall Branch, McDowell, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.

Dewey Kidd
Dewey Kidd, age 61, of Butler, Indiana, formerly of Martin, passed away Wednes-day, October 16, 2002, at Dekalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn, Indiana.
He was born May 18, 1941, in Martin, and was the son of the late John Kidd and Victoria Mullins Kidd. He was a tire builder for B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn, Indiana for 10 years and worked at Win Schulers Restaurant in Marshall, Michigan.
Survivors include his former wife of 20 years and caregiver, Barbara Kidd Mason of Edon, Ohio; three brothers, John Mullins of Prestonsburg, Edgar Kidd of Martin, Andy Kidd of Battle Creek, Michigan; four sisters, Ethel Hall of Martin, Edna Greer of Printer, Rosemary Gross of Marshall, Michigan, Lylis Mullins of Staffordsville, and a special nephew, Doyle Greer of Battle Creek, Michigan, who frequently assisted Dewey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick Kidd and Carl Kidd.
Funeral services for Dewey Kidd were conducted Saturday, October 19, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the Church of Christ ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Jeff Hunter Cemetery, Printer, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Frasure Hall
Elizabeth Frasure Hall, 79, of McDowell, died Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at her residence.
Born June 1, 1923, in Dona, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Margaret Reynolds Frasure. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hall.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Hall of McDowell; two daughters, Deloris Stumbo and Maxine Kinney, both of McDowell; one brother, Mose Frasure of McDowell; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Eddie Dean Hall, Burchell Hall, and Clinton Hall; four brothers, Earl Frasure, Wade Frasure, Ray Frasure and Ted Frasure.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 17, at noon, at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Ted Shannon officiating.
Burial was in the Frasures Creek Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Mary Florence Rowe Ford
Services for Mary Florence Rowe Ford, born on Bucks Branch in Martin, Floyd County, were held on Saturday, October 12, 2002, in Benton, Marshall Co., at 1 p.m., at the Collier Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Joseph, and Rev. Bill Franklin officiating.
Burial was in the Calvert City Cemetery. Mary Florence was 71 years old. She died Wednesday, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, following a sudden illness.
She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Ethel Flanery Rowe of Calvert City. The family moved to Calvert City in 1952. She was the eldest grandchild of the late Aaron Burr and Mary Mayo Flanery of Martin.
Mary Florence was a graduate of Martin High School and Morehead College. She was a retired teacher, having taught for 23 years at Calvert City Elementary School. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Calvert City United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Ford; a daughter, Marilyn Metzger; two grandsons, Evan O’Neal and Sean O’Neal; and one brother, James Aaron Rowe, all of Calvert City.
Mary Florence and Bill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 27, 2002.

Oma Jean Hall
Oma Jean Hall, age 74, of Martin, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born January 4, 1928, in Eastern, the daughter of the late Jake Turner and Amanda (Mandy) Preston Turner.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Calhoun (Warren Larry) of Lake City, Florida, and Terri McCoy (Gary) of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Bonnie Dingus of Walton Beach, Florida, and Olivia May of Langley; two grandchildren, William Craig Campbell and Cody Garrett McCoy; two great-grandchildren, McCally Craig Campbell and Sean Chase Campbell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky L. Hall and Gerald D. Hall.
Funeral services for Oma Jean Hall will be conducted Friday, October 18, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Louis Ferrari officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Opal Brown Hayes
Opal Brown Hayes, age 87, of Ligon, widow of Claude Hayes, passed away Friday, October 11, 2002, at her daughter’s residence in New Boston, Michigan.
She was born October 21, 1914, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Newberry Brown and Liza Little Brown. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, at Hi Hat, and a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Roger Hayes of Ligon, Arley Glenn Hayes of Evarts, Morris Hayes of Harrodsburg, and Tony Hayes of Edgewood; two daughters, Claudette Hall of Hi Hat, and Delores Tackett of New Boston, Michigan; two sisters, Hester Cook of Tucson, Arizona, and Irene White of Bristol, Virginia; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Buster, Ellis, and Joe Brown; and two sisters, Nannie Mullins and Pauline Homeschek.
Funeral services for Opal Brown Hayes were conducted Tuesday, October 15, at 11 a.m., at the Church of God of Prophecy, Hi Hat, with Clergymen Tony and Glenn Hayes officiating.
Burial was in the Newman Cemetery, Hi Hat, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.
