Linda Sue Duff
Linda Sue Duff, age 56, of Langley, wife of Willie Duff, passed away Friday, May 16, 2003, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born May 12, 1947, in Garrett, the daughter of the late Lacy Shepherd and Stella Hicks Shepherd. She was a former employee of the First Commonwealth Bank, and a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Willa Anita Joan Lykens of Langley; three brothers, Don Shepherd of Allen, and Danny Wayne Shepherd and Jimmy Shepherd, both of Garrett; four sisters, Lola Click of Langley, Wava Turner of Garrett, Bonnie Smith of Hazard, and Brenda Martin of Hueysville; two grandchildren, Breanna Michelle Duff and Conner Wade Lykens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Ray Shepherd, and one sister, Clara Shepherd.
Funeral services for Linda Sue Duff were conducted Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Chester Ray Varney officiating.
Burial was in the Shepherd Family Cemetery, (Rockfork) Garrett, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Mark Wedding, Tim Lykens, Kevin Thacker, Mark Wallace, Tim Shepherd, Wesley Moore, Harvey Martin, and William Smith.
Honorary: Sterlin Turner, Danny Shepherd, Donald Shepherd, Cordis Smith, Jimmy Shepherd, and Teddy Click.

Thomas N. Kuss Sr.
Thomas N. Kuss Sr., 82, of Prestonsburg, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at his daughter’s residence in Lexington.
Born January 25, 1921, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Mehron Nercesian and Ellen Emily Baker Kuss; and a step-son to the late William Thomas Kuss.
He retired from the National Aeronotics Space Administra-tion in Langley, Virginia, as head of Failure Analysis and Development; a veteran of the U.S. Army, Marines, Air Force, and World War II; a life member of the 32nd degree Masons; Zebulon Lodge No. 273, in Prestonsburg; Robert Circle Lodge in Lexington; an Oleika Temple Shriner; and a member of the Odd Fellows.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Banks Kuss.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas N. Kuss II, and Ed Kuss (wife, Becky), both of Prestonsburg; a daughter, Jana Floyd Spalding of Lexington; a sister, Joan Kuss Scott of Florida; five grandchildren, Rachel Swift (Tim), Thomas Floyd, Heather Adkins (Jim), Eddybanks Kuss and Elisha Kuss (Cameron), and three great-grandchildren, Brittany Adkins, Ben Swift and Cameron Michael Powell.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 20, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Rev. Tommy Nelson and Tom Thacker officiating. DAV Chapter 128 of Garrett, conducted the military service.
Burial was in the Banks Family Cemetery at Water Gap, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m., at the funeral home, with Scottish Right ceremony being performed, Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
Active pallbearers: Eddy-banks Kuss, Thomas Floyd, Tim Swift, Jim Adkins, Lawrence Smith, Gary Wright, Ron Wright, and Anthony Swiger.

Martha Nelson
Martha Nelson, 79, of Wabash, Indiana, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at her residence.
Born July 7, 1923, in Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Rose and Lulu Slone Rose. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Nelson Jr., in 1974.
Survivors include six sons, Martin Nelson (Linda), Ballard Nelson (Sandy), Rick Nelson (Barbara), Ralph Nelson, Freddy Nelson and Billy Cloud, all of Wabash, Indiana; five daughters, Mrs. Imo Jean Milligan, Mrs. Dave (Sue) McKernan, Mrs. Chuck (Deborah) Hein, Mrs. Phillip (Barbara Jean) Sadler, and Mrs. Shane (Jayne) Ridenour, all of Wabash, Indiana; one brother, Ballard Ross of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Mrs. Henry (Maggie) Shoemaker of Wabash, Indiana; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter; two brothers; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 22, at 10 a.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home Eddingfield Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana, with Danny Honeycutt officiating.
Burial will be in the Falls Cemetery, in Wabash, Indiana.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Sina Thornton
Sina Thornton, 67, of Flat Gap, died Wednesday, May 14, at the Med Central Medical Center in Shelby, Ohio.
Born April 23, 1936, in Dema, she was the daughter of the late Anthony (Tony) and Liza Meade Hall. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover F. Thornton.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Thornton and Bill Thornton, both of Flat Gap, and Brad Thornton of Tracy, California; four brothers, Ervin Hall of Bevinsville, Olvin Hall of Chicago, Illinois, Tony Hall Jr. of McDowell, and Tommy Hall of Decoy; four sisters, Martha Sparkman of Topmost, Mary Triplett of Bevinsville, Vivian Gayheart of LaGrange, Indiana, and Freda Hayes of Hindman; two grandchildren, Hope and Garrett Thornton of San Diego, California; and a fiance, Richard Moore.
In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John M. Hall and Clifford Hall; and a sister, Opal Hall Steele.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 18, at 11 a.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Louis Ferrari officating.
Burial will be in the Lucy Hall Cemetery at McDowell, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers: Laryl Branham, Mike Smith, Stewart Osborne, Eugene Sparkman, Jerry Sparkman, Rob Hoffman, Greg Haney and Harold Landoll.

Glenn Alexander
Glenn Alexander, 78, of Wayland, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born November 8, 1924, in Auxier, he was the son of the late Louis Edward and Lucinda Ward Alexander. He was a disabled coal miner, a member of the House of Prayer at Wayland, a dispatcher for the Wayland Fire Department, and a member of the fire department since 1972.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Paige Alexander.
Survivors include four daughters, Loretta Cline, Sue Rhoads, and Vickie Jones, all of Wayland; and Willa Goodman of Kendallville, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Alvin Alexander; two sisters, Lois Bolen and Loretta Watkins; and two half-sisters, Edna King and Margie Goble.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 18, at 1 p.m., at the House of Prayer at Shop Fork in Wayland, with Donnie Burke officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the church.

Agnes Jean (Sissy) Davis
Agnes Jean (Sissy) Davis, 56, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at her residence.
Born November 9, 1946, in Pikeville, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Della Boyd Kidd. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sammy Clark Freewill Baptist Church at Dana.
Survivors include a son, Johnny R. Kidd of Harold; a daughter, Lisa Stumbo of Harold; five brothers, Harold Kidd, James Kidd, Bobby Kidd, Hershel Kidd and Lee Kidd Jr., all of Harold; three sisters, Offie Jarrell of Harold, Phyllis Newsome of Frankfort, and Gail Harvey of Honaker; and two grandchildren, Drew W. Stumbo and Brooke McCoy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Kidd; and a sister, Eloise Adkins.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 17, at 5 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Robert Shane Powers officiating.
Burial will be in the Boyd-Kidd Cemetery at Dana, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gordon Brent Burke
Gordon Brent Burke, 25, of McDowell, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the North Star Mine at Printer.
Born October 16, 1977, in Floyd County, he was the son of Gordon Burke of Wheelwright and the late Beverly Childers Burke. He was a coal miner and a member of the Little Rock Regular Baptist Church at Jacks Creek.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Bentley Burke of McDowell.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a half-brother, Leslie Burke of Somerset; a step-brother, Keith Davis of Wheelwright; a half-sister, Carrie Childers of Florida; and a step-sister, Kim Isaac of Wheelwright.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m., at the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church at McDowell, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery at Frasures Creek, in McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.

Glennis Ivory Hall
Glennis Ivory Hall, age 72, of Melvin, husband of Rosemary Kendrick Hall, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, New Hampshire.
He was born September 25, 1930, in Melvin, the son of the late McClelland Hall and Mary Hall. He was a retired mine safety and health administration employee, a graduate of Wheelwright High School, attended Caney (Alice Lloyd) College, was a member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge No. 889, and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. He worked at Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Michigan, and Inland Steel and Island Creek Coal, Wheelwright, prior to MSHA, where he was an electrical inspector and EEOC officer. He was also active in the Melvin PTA and other community organizations prior to his illness.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; one son, Glenn Robert (Dawn) Hall of Louisville; five daughters, Cecelia (Darrell) Parks of Prestonsburg, Debra (Adrian) Engle of Richmond, Laura (Scott) Nelson of Concord, New Hampshire, Lisa (Karl) Hansen of Amherst, New Hampshire, Bethe (Bill) Kludt of Miamisburg, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Leslie Engle, Samantha Jo, Ivory Rose, and Zane Robert Hall, Christopher, Mark, Adam, and Alyssa Brooke Hansen, Bethany Kludt, and Wesley Nelson; one brother, Edward Hall; sister-in-law, Parilee (Charles) Hall of Bevinsville; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for Glennis Ivory Hall will be conducted Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Martin, with Bishop Ken Carriere and Karl Hansen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery, at Melvin, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. til 10 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m., Saturday.
