Bernard A. Burchwell, age 74, of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Maytown, Langley, husband of Dorthy “Dottie” Godby Burchwell, and former husband of Lillian “Lee” Howard Grant, passed away April 16, 2003, at the Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born October 10, 1928, at Hi Hat, the son of the late Con Burchwell and Roxie Meade Burchwell. He was a truck driver for Matlack Inc. for 31 years, and retired in 1991. He was a graduate of Maytown High School, and enjoyed attending their school reunions.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Charlotte (Ron) Lee of Zenia, Ohio, Debby (Pat) Doherty of Dayton, Ohio, Sandra Sue (Mark) Hackenwerth of Missouri; one son, Roy David Burchwell of California; two step-children, Sharon Kosick and Gerald Godby; one brother, Elmer “Bozo” Burchwell of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Barbara Daniels of Lexington, Joyce Stumbo of McDowell, and Verna “Teeny” Hayes of Hunter; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Bernard A. Burchwell were conducted April 19, at Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester, Ohio.
Burial followed in the West Chester Township Cemetery, West Chester, Ohio.

Esta Marie Newsom
Esta Marie Newsom, 81, of Auxier, formerly of Beefhide, in Pike County, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, in Prestonsburg.
Born August 11, 1921, in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Hattler and Rosie Little Addington. She was a homemaker and a member of the Chloe Old Regular Baptist Church in Pikeville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmon Newsom.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Ann and Harold Yates of Auxier; two brothers, Virgil Addington of Jenkins; and Everett Addington of Oak Hill, Ohio; three sisters, Flora Ray of Jenkins, and Nora Johnson and Myra Newsom, both of Myra; a granddaughter, Karen Ward of Prestonsburg; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Deshea Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Addington, and an infant brother; one infant sister; and a granddaughter, Teresa Diane Yates.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 5, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Danny Belcher, and others, officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Mildred “Sissy” Hall Osborne
Mildred “Sissy” Hall Osborne, age 75, of Beaver, widow of Victor “Buster” Osborne, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born December 27, 1927, in Beaver, the daughter of the late Milford and Lilllie Mae Bentley Hall.
Survivors include five sons, Willard (Peggy) Osborne, and Carson (Brenda) Osborne, both of Teaberry, Leonard (Lois) Osborne of Grethel, Larry (Kathy) Osborne and Glenn Dale (Angie) Osborne, both of Beaver; five daughters, Priscilla (Kermit) Newsome, Kathy (C.B.) Bentley, and Glenda (Jimmy) Newsome, all of Teaberry, Sylvia (Ronald) Martin of Dema, and Brenda (Mike) Newsome, of Beaver; five brothers, Hillard Hall of Harold, Okey Hall, Doley Hall, and Palmer Hall, all of Beaver, and Tivis Hall of Dema; three sisters, Donna Flannery, Opal Johnson and Juanita Tackett, all of Beaver; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Tony Osborne; one daughter, Irene Osborne; and one brother, Oley Hall.
Funeral services for Mildred Osborne were conducted Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Hall Cemetery (Tackett Fork), Beaver, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.

Woodrow Wilson Pack
Elder Woodrow Wilson Pack, age 75, of McDowell, husband of Margaret Mae Stumbo Pack, passed away Monday, May 5, 2003, at his residence.
He was born January 4, 1928, in Martin County, the son of the late Elder Aaron Pack and Nova Crisp Pack. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church for 36 years, and served as assistant moderator. He served as moderator at Spurlock Regular Baptist Church for 20 years, was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the U.M.W.A., and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Randy Lee (Cindy) Pack of Wayland; one daughter, Betty Jane (James) Tackett of Drift; one grandson, Robert Kyle Tackett; one step-grandson, Aaron Thorpe; daughters of the heart, Sue Carolyn Stumbo Pack, and husband, Franklin; and sons, Ricky, Dale and families; daughter of the heart, Phyliss Jean Stumbo Pettis, husband, Paul; her children, Gregory, Tammy, Pamela, Samantha, Mandy and families; four brothers, Johnny Pack of Drift, and Allan Pack and Sherman Pack, aboth of Summitt Station, Ohio, Eugene Pack of Circleville, Ohio; three sisters, Eva Mullins of Calabash, North Carolina, Ann Robinson of Columbus, Ohio, and Rebecca Hamilton of Drift; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Elder Woodrow Pack will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, at noon, at the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church, at Minnie, with Clergymen Clifford Williams, Clyde Lewis, Carl Addington, and Jack Adkins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Virgie Jones
Virgie Jones, age 84, of Shiloh, Ohio, formerly of Hueysville, widow of Alonzo Jones, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Willard Health Care Center, Willard, Ohio.
She was born November 17, 1918, in Knott County, the daughter of the late Harrison Lovely and Lula Conley Lovely.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Jones of Harpster, Ohio, James Jones of Cardington, Ohio, and Larry Jones of Albion, Indiana; four daughters, Elouise Martin of Clearwater, Florida, Clara Vanderpool of Shiloh, Ohio, Irene Hale of Salyersville, and Claudia Martin of Pataskla, Ohio, 26 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Combs.
Funeral services for Virgie Jones were conducted Monday, May 5, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Joe Ratliff officiating.

Lee Hamilton
Lee Hamilton, age 73, of Prestonsburg, husband of Noralene Tackett Hamilton, passed away Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
He was born June 29, 1929, in Teaberry, the son of the late Harvey Hamilton and Judy Belle Hamilton. He was a disabled coal miner, and a member of the UMWA.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Wanda Lee Sexton, Debbie Johnson, and Janet Salisbury, all of Prestonsburg; one brother, Luther Hamilton of Teaberry; five grandchildren, Leanna Newsome, Ginger Scott, Jason Johnson, Rachel Salisbury, and Sarah Salisbury; four great-grandchildren, Patrick Johnson, Derek Newsome, Megan Scott, and Alex Scott.
In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Garland Johnson.
Funeral services for Lee Hamilton were conducted Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at the Zion Regular Baptist Church, at Grethel, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Martin Cemetery, Martin, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Leslie Kendrick “Pud” Crager
Leslie Kendrick “Pud” Crager, age 30, of Versailles, formerly of Knott County, husband of Trisha Bolen Crager, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Beaver Dam.
He was born December 14, 1972, in Newark, Ohio, the son of Norman Crager of Hueysville, and Patty Chaffins Moss of Garrett. He was an engineer technician with Fuller and Mossberger, Scott and May Engineering Company, and was a member of the Yellow Mountain Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his wife, father and mother; one brother, Larry Crager of Garrett; two nieces, Lakyn Bolen and Carrie Crager; three nephews, Chisum Crager, Levi Bolen, and Luke Bolen.
Funeral services for Leslie Kendrick Crager were conducted Monday, May 5, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Earl Miller officiating.
Burial was in the Chaffins Family Cemetery, at Garrett, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.

Mary Prater
Mary Prater, 92, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Prestonsburg, passed away Friday, May 2, 2003, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center Hospital in Lima, Ohio, following an extended illness.
She was born January 15, 1911, a daughter of the late Solon and Parrott (England) Waddle. She was married
to Elzie Prater, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven daughters and five sons, Mary Edith Rachlin, and Wanda Link, both of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Polly McCoy of Elida, Ohio, Alice Fay Grimm of Meally, Diania Compton of Corbin, Sewoma “Susie” Roberts and Sharon Swint, both of Lima, Ohio; Paul T. Prater of Prestonsburg, Lonnie Prater of Rochester, Ohio, Danny Prater of Austin, Texas, and Stanley Prater and Elzie Prater, both of Lima, Ohio; 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, at 11 a.m., from the Little Rock United Baptist Church at Myrtle, with United Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Prater Family Cemetery at Myrtle, under the direction of Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
