Carl W. Mudd, age 62, of Leitchfield, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home.
He was born April 3, 1947 in Grayson County, the son of S. V. and Lavanna Hack Mudd. He was a farmer, and a member of the Pleasant Union United Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Mary Higdon Mudd; his son, Jeff Parker (B.J.); his mother, Lavanna Scott; three sisters, Jenny Humphress and Sharon Hovious, both of Campbellsville, Ky., and Wilma Reeves of Louisville, Ky. Also surviving: one granddaughter
Other than his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Ann Mudd and Etta Jane Mason.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Dermitt Funeral Home, in Leitchfield, with Bro. Graylin Hayes officiating.
Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
Zoey Amari Powell
Zoey Amari Powell, infant daughter of Joseph Matthew Powell and Shannon Nicole Blair, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Leitchfield.
She is survived by her parents; her sister, Savannah Evans; her brothers, Hayden Bradley Powell and Caleb Evans; her paternal grandparents, Brenda Blair and Dewayne Spaulding; several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the New Freedom Cemetery with Bro. Ed Cockriel officiating.
Burial to follow.
Betty J. Stevenson
Betty J. Stevenson, age 62, of Leitchfield, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at her residence.
She was born June 13, 1947 in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Tom and Jolene VanMeter Mattingly.
She is survived by her husband, William Stevenson of Leitchfield; two sons, William Christopher Stevenson of Leitchfield and Brian Thomas Yearin of Bowling Green, Ky.; one sister, Sherry Rudnick of Leitchfield; two brothers, Royce Mattingly of Louisville and Jimmy Mattingly of Florida.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel in Leitchfield.
Burial was in the Scott Cemetery.
Bill Newton
Bill Newton, age 86, of Leitchfield, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born August 23, 1922, and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Bell Newton; his parents, Johnnie and Elmedia Davis Newton; three brothers, Charlie, Thomas and Claude Newton; two sisters, Laura Newton and Fellie Saltsman; and a son-in-law, Roscoe Saltsman.
He is survived by his son, Wayne (Judy) Newton of Leitchfield; two daughters, Nancy Mae Saltsman and Kathleen Marie (Harry) Scot, both of Leitchfield; special companion, Helen Langdon; several nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Watkins-Oller Funeral Chapel, in Leitchfield, with Bro. Vester Decker and Bro. Arnold Saltsman officiating.
Burial will be in the Bill Newton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Sunday.
Thomas Edward “Spanky” Spurka, Jr.
Thomas Edward “Spanky” Spurka, Jr., age 27, of Clarkson, Ky., passed away June 17, 2009 on Rough River.
He was born September 28, 1981 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Thomas Edward Spurka, Sr. and Janice Lynn Federico-Hurst of Florida.
He is survived by his beloved mother, and step-father, Nicholas Hurst; two sisters, Janice Ardt (Michael) and Krystal Spurka, her fiancé Edward Simon; three brothers, Christopher Hurst, his wife Ryan, Justin Hurst (Jayne), and Devon Hurst; four nieces, and three nephews with special mention to Paige and Michael Ardt who were more like a sister and brother, Cindy and Mike Ardt who were very special to him; his grandparents, Catherine Spurka and Mary Ann and Vincent Federico; the Spurka and Federico aunts, uncles, and cousins, and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel, in Leitchfield, with Bro. Wayne Clemons officiating.
The family has chosen cremation with the interment of his cremains to be next to his father at the Fernwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA at a later date.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Dennison Ramsey
Mary Dennison Ramsey, age 86, of Leitchfield, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born August 6, 1922 in Pine Knob, Ky., the daughter of Elmer and Hallie Tilford Dennison. She was a home maker, and a member of the Antioch Methodist Church in McDaniels.
Her husband, Henry Willard Ramsey; one brother, Hayward Dennison; and one sister, Eula Mae VanMeter preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Dennis (Brenda) Ramsey of Leitchfield; two daughters, Jo Ann (Jimmie) Smith of Leitchfield, and Tessie Baier of Hardinsburg, Ky.; four grandchildren, Mark Baier of IN, Robin Embry (Garry) of Leitchfield, Rhonna HIgdon (Lance) of Bowling Green, Ky., and Bryan Ramsey (Tracy) of Glendale, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren, Matt, Trent, Devin, Laina, Andrew, Kali and Aidan.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.
Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery.
