Dr. Walter Blaine Smith, of Leitchfield, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born in Warrick County, Indiana, as the son of Blaine and Maude Piper Smith. He was a World War II Veteran, 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge 236, Kosair Shriner, the Knights of the Templar, and a charter member of the Leitchfield Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Rosalie Yarnell Smith.
He is surived by his daughter, Sheila Smith of Nashville and friend, Diane Neel; and his sister, Ruby Willis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 28,2004 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonesville, Indiana.
James "Tommy" Clemons
James "Tommy" Clemons, age 36, of Leitchfield, died Friday, August 27, 2004 at the Norton's Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
He was born on September 3, 1967 in Grayson County as the son of Carl Thomas and Bernice Clark Clemons. He was a bricklayer and a member of the Bloomington General Baptist Church.
He is survived by four daughters, Emily Ann Higdon, Pam Clemons and Jenna Clemons, All of Leitchfield, and Laurtina Clemons of Bowling Green, Ky.; his mother, Bernice Clemons of Sweeden, Ky.; one sister, Tonya Johnson of Bowling Green, Ky.; two brothers, Ruben Webb of Bee Springs and Richard Allen Clemons of Sweeden; and his maternal grandmother, Inas Clark of Sweeden.
His father, Carl Clemons, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Bloomington General Baptist Church in Leitchfield with Bro. Joey Blanton and Bro. Billy Bertram officiating.
Burial was in the Lyle Cemetery.
Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield was in charge of the arrangements.
Willie R. Dean
Willie R. Dean, age 64, of Leitchfield, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Grayson Manor Nursing Facility in Leitchfield.
He was born January 15, 1940 in Grayson County to James Henry and Ola Hartley Dean.
He is survived by two sisters, Founta Phelps of Leitchfield and Viola King of Caneyville; one brother, Alvin Ray Dean of Leitchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
George Hugron
George Hugron, age 82, of Leitchfield, died on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Unity Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hugron.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Jo Bryant of Bowling Green, Ky.; one step-son, Thomas Reed of Leitchfield; four step-daughters, June Decker, Norma Reed and Brenda Webber, all of Leitchfield, and Viola Cunningham of Belmont, Ky. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Billy Hack officiating.
Burial was in the Lyle Cemetery.
Frances McGrew
Frances McGrew, age 77, of Leitchfield, died January 18, 2004, at her residence.
She was born December 5, 1925 in Edmonson County, as the daughter of Jack and Mary Woodcock.
She is survived by two sons, Danny McGrew and Randy Scott; two daughters, Sara McGrew and Mary Harms; four sisters, Cova Saling, Vonnie Elmore and Delola Harrod, all of Edmonson County, and Ruby Messenger of Leitchfield. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Carmen, Tina and Lori; three great-grandchildren; and many special friends.
She donated her body to the University of Louisville for medical research.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 22, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grayson County Senior Citizen Building on Commerce Drive, Leitchfield.
Eugene Samuel Zehner
Eugene Samuel Zehner, age 60, died Thursday, August 26, 2004 at his residence in Leitchfield. He was born April 6, 1944 as the son of Arthur and Prudence Welsh Zehner in Sugarloaf, Penn.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and he was of Methodist faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Vanhorn of Leitchfield; one son, Kenneth Zehner of Penn.; two sisters, Selma Thrash and Grace Eckenrode of Penn.; two brothers, Arthur Zehner and Richard Zehner of Penn., and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Joan Carper, Leona Acker, Pearl Nevis and Jane Zehner; and one grandson, Kevin Vanhorn Jr.
A memorial service has been planned at a later date in Sugarloaf, Penn.
