Richard Burd, age 51, of Big Clifty, died on Friday, March 28, 2003 in Big Clifty, Kentucky. He was born on June 28, 1951 in Hodgenville, Kentucky as the son of Charles and Alphie Quisenberry Burd.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Collard of Big Clifty; one brother-in-law, James Collard of Big Clifty; long time friend, Robert Keith of Big Clifty; two nieces, two nephews, and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 31, 2003, at the home of Watson & Hunt Funeral Directors in Leitchfield.
Bill B. Sloan
1940-2003
Bill B. Sloan, age 69, of Clarkson, died on Friday, January 24, 2003 at his residence in Clarkson.
He was born on February 24, 1933 as the son of Bert H. and Eva May Sloan.
He owned and operated Sloan trucking, he was a fifty year member of the IBEW, a member of the Wilhelm Lodge F&AM; of Clarkson and a member of the United Methodist Church in Leitchfield.
He married
Imogene Haycraft on February 3, 1955.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kelly Sloan.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Haycraft Sloan of Clarkson; two sons, Billy Ray Sloan of Somerset, Kentucky and Timothy Clay Sloan of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Melissa Jean Sloan of Lawrenceville, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Linda Renee Smith Sloan. Also surviving one granddaughter, Jessica Danielle Sloan and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with the Rev. Musical Pearson officiating.
Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Shelby Nash
1937-2003
Shelby Nash, age 66, of New Salisbury, Indiana, died on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at his residence.
He was born on February 15, 1937 in Butler County, Kentucky as the son of Grady and Anna Marie Embry Nash.
He was a retired self-employed contractor and attended the New Salisbury Church of God of Prophecy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Nash.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Dockery Nash; four daughters, Teresa Thomas of New Salisbury, Pam Reffitt of Salem, Indiana, Thelma Webb of Indianapolis, Indiana and Kimberly Erwin of Central City, Kentucky; his mother, Anna Marie Nash of Morgantown, Kentucky; four brothers, Sanford of Greenville, Indiana, Shelton of Louisville, Kentucky, Sharone of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Dale Nash of Morgantown; four sisters, Shirley Embry, Gay Embry and Shella Garrett, all of Morgantown, and Sharlett Embry of Caneyville, Kentucky. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Dan Thomas Jr., Michael Thomas, Kyle Webb, Courtney Webb and Shelby Tate Erwin.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Church of God of Prophecy at Caneyville under the direction of the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville.
Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern, Indiana.
Evelyn Holland
1911-2003
Evelyn Holland, age 91, of Leitchfield (formerly of Gamaliel, Kentucky, died on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
She was born on February 23, 1911 in Monroe County, Kentucky.
She was a housewife, attended Gamaliel Methodist Church, member of Homakers Club, and a graduate of Western Kentucky Teachers College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Holland; her father and mother, Howard Hayes Sr. and Mabel Hayes.
She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Conder of Leitchfield; one son, Dr. Franklin Hayes Holland of Cantonment, Florida; two grandsons, Stephen Ray Holland of Cantonment, Florida and James S. Conder of Leitchfield. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Mary lynn McDonald of Cantonment, Florida, Martha Jean Holland of Pensacola, Florida, and Vanessa Conder Ledridge of Lexington, Kentucky; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at Strode's Gamaliel Chapel.
Burial was in the Gamaliel Cemetery in Gamaliel, Kentucky.
Lottie Kelly
1911-2003
Lottie Kelly, age 91, of Caneyville, Kentucky, died on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born on October 11, 1911 in Leitchfield as the daughter of John and Lelia Haycraft Muffett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Kelly; and one brother, Thomas Muffett.
She is survived by one one, Joe Kelly of Caneyville, Kentucky; one daughter, Alma Jean Mollyhorn of Caneyville; and one sister, Willadean Embry of Caneyville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Phillip Mollyhorn of Caneyville, and Theresa Hagan of Whitesville; and two great-grandchildren, Amy Lynn Childress and Kelly Beth Mollyhorn, both of Caneyville.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Bro. Pirtle Cummings officiating.
Burial was in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
