Ronella Logsdon Warf, age 64, of Leitchfield, died on Saturday, June 14, 2003 in Leitchfield.
She was born on January 01, 1939. She was formerly employed by Trim Masters in Leitchfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard and Elsie Logsdon; three sisters, Betty Smith, Bernice Webb and Shirley Logsdon; and three brothers, Deward, Steve and Walter Logsdon.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Warf of Leitchfield; one son, Charles Damon Miller of Wax, Kentucky; four daughters, Lora Renae Miller of Leitchfield, Jennifer Amos of Goshen, Ohio, Susan Warf of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lori Darst of St. Paul, Kentucky; one sister, Edie Smith of Clarkson, Kentucky; and three brothers, Clay and Billy Logsdon, both of Caneyville, Kentucky, and Jimmy Logsdon of Wax.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Clemons officiating.
Burial was in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
Emery Sherman Tomes
1917-2003
Emery Sherman Tomes, age 86, of Big Reedy died on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at his residence.
He was born on March 31, 1917 as the son of Alvey and Nora Durbin Tomes. He was the youngest of 10 siblings.
He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 59 years, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and song leader. For 52 years, he was the treasurer and caretaker of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In 1938, he taught school in Grayson County. He was a past member of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, and the president of Kentucky Farm Bureau and board of directors from 1976-1993. In 1978, he retired from W. R. Grace Company. He was also a retired farmer. He was secretary of Big Reedy watershed in Grayson County, and on the Board of Directors with Nolin PCA in Elizabethtown for many years where he met his present wife of 30 years, Vera Guffey Tomes. He was also married
to deceased wife, Dorothy Huff Tomes for 30 years.
He is survived by two sons, Donnie Tomes and his wife, Gail of Caneyville and Dwight Tomes and his wife, Jayne from Van Meter, Iowa; two daughters, Letha Tomes of Midway, and Jackie Dowling and her husband, Bruce of Caneyville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Courtney Clark and her husband, Curt of Bowling Green; Leah Geary and her husband, John of Hardinsburg; Andy Tomes of Des Moines, Iowa; Krysta White and her husband, Nolon of Des Moines, Iowa; Kimberly Tomes of New York, NY; Rachel Riley and husband, Brad of Lexington; and Samantha Dowling of Caneyville. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Noah, Isaac and Abigail Geary, Veronica Maraone, Anthia White, and Bryce Riley.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Durward, John, Ray, Pirtle and Jess Tomes; four sisters, Delphia Minton, Trulia Raymer, Helen Minton and Elizabeth Tomes. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Tomes, widow of Ray Tomes; and Dora Tomes, widow of John Tomes; along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church under the direction of Dermitt Funeral Home of Caneyville with Rev. Don Bruington officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Mary Catherine Carman
1956-2003
Mary Catherine Carman, age 47, of Louisville died on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.
She was born on February 4, 1956 in Grayson County as the daughter of Floyd and Doris Montgomery Stone. She was a cashier for Meijers Department Store.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Shanna Carman of Louisville; her parents, Floyd and Doris Stone of Leitchfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Lisa Stone, and Alton and Marilyn Stone, all of Clarkson. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Jordan, Juston, Caitlan, and Heather Carman.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Phillip Smiley officiating.
Burial was in the Eveleigh Cemetery.
Joel "Oscar" Berkley
1922-2003
Joel "Oscar" Berkley, age 81, of Louisville died on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Green Meadows Nursing Home in Mt. Washington.
He was born July 13, 1922 in Grayson County as the son of Frank and Frances Josephene Wilson Berkley.
He was a retired carpenter, a member of the First Freewil Baptist Church, a KY Colonel, and a Veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roosevelt and George Berkley; and two sisters, Lillian Quiggins and Ruth Milam.
He is survived by his wife, Cloie M. Smith Berkley of Louisville; two sons, Joel Berkley Jr. of Prospect and Darrell Berkley of Taylorsville; and one daughter, Rita Frances Spalding of Mt. Washington. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Rev. Dewey Hensley officiating.
Burial was in the McGrady Creek Cemetery.
Laurice W. Embry
1926-2003
Laurice W. Embry, age 77, of Louisville, Kentucky died on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Audubon Hospital in Louisville.
He was born on March 30, 1926 in Butler County as the son of Hillary and Hanora Embry. He was a member of the Peace Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion, Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Embry.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Rose Embry of Louisville; one step-son, Billy Rose, two step-daughters, Pam and Karen Rose, both of Louisville; one sister, Wandeth Maupin of Louisville; three step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Stanton, Monica Mudd and Lydia Minton. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services wee held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Bro. Earl Bunch officiating.
Burial was in the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville.
