Eva E. Cockriel Fields, age 73, of Louisville died on Monday, December 8, 2003 at Georgetown Manor Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Fields; two sons, Sammy and Lester Fields Jr.; and a brother, Coy Cockriel.
She is survived by eight children; two sisters; 26 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 12, 2003 at Owen Funeral Home in Louisville.
Burial was in the Williams Cemetery in Leitchfield.
John Hill Taylor
1925-2003
John Hill Taylor, age 78, of Leitchfield died on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on February 14, 1925 in Hartford as the son of John Ross and Marion Hill Taylor.
Mr. Taylor received his bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in English from Western Kentucky, where he also played basketball under Coach E. A. Diddle. He was hired in 1948 at the Leitchfield High School as basketball coach, where he became the principal, and served there until the consolidation of the high schools. He also served as the principal of the Grayson County Middle School and the Grayson County High School. He was a Veteran of World War II, where he flew paratroopers in a C 47 following General Patton. He was also a retired personnel director of Vermont American and a farmer. He was a member and Deacon of Leitchfield First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Baird Taylor of Leitchfield; one son and daughter-in-law, John Stephen and Karen Taylor of Leitchfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Keaton and Lee Taylor of Alexandria, Virginia. Also surviving are two grandsons, Nolan and Scott Taylor, both of Leitchfield.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Lucille Larkins.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 11, 2003 at the First Baptist Church Life Center in Leitchfield under the direction of the Dermit Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Rev. Chris Butler and Rev. George Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Leitchfield First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Ann Edith Bird
1916-2003
Ann Edith Bird, age 87, of Leitchfield died on Thursday, November 27, 2003 in Louisville.
She was born on November 16, 1916. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bird; a daughter, Mattie Jane Bird; one grandson, Robert Bird; and her parents, Jim and Janie Stevenson Ruth.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Elzie and Mary Bird, and Gordon and Bobbye Bird, both of Leitchfield; three sisters, Ruby Philpott and Betty Jo Cain, both of Louisville, and Virginia Stuffregen of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Chester Shartzer officiating.
Burial was in the Layman Cemetery in Millwood.
Judy Lynn Larkins
1962-2003
Judy Lynn Larkins, age 41, of Louisville died on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at her residence in Bullitt County.
She was born on June 26, 1962. She was disabled.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mack Larkins.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Reiter Larkins of Hillview; one sister, Vivian Perkins of Georgetown; three brothers, Robert Larkins of Georgetown, David and Kenneth Larkins, both of Hillview; and her fianc/, Joe Gibson.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 1, 2003 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Gibson Cemetery.
Mary "Tillie" Sumner
1924-2003
Mary "Tillie" Sumner, 79 of Clarkson, died Saturday, Nov. 27 in Elizabethtown.
She was born on April 18, 1924, the daughter of James E. and Fannie Clark Langley. She was retired from Vermont American, a lifelong member of Saint Elizabeth Church and Saint Elizabeth Perpetual Fund and the Sumner-Poteet Ladies Night Club.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Dewey Sumner, Sr.; her parents James E. and Fannie Clark Langley and two sons David Sumner and Dewey Rusty Sumner Jr.
She was survived by her daughter Ginger Sumner of Clarkson; a sister-in-law Hazel Langley of Clarkson; and a brother-in-law James Oller of Leitchfield. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews: Claudia and Wayne Sproull of Plainfield, Ind.; Tommy and Cheryl Mathis of Greenville, Ky.; Janie and Thurman Jaggers of Marietta, Ga.; Bobbie and Ray Clemons of Augusta, Ga.; Marie and Joe Dolchan of Marray Ky.; Vickie and John Mowery of Chambersburg, Penn.' Mike Langley of Chambersburg, Penn.; and Priscilla and Darrell Witten of Clarkson. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Patrick J. Delan officiating. Burial will be in Saint Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday.
