Kenneth Calvin Stewart, age 74, of Leitchfield died on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the Twin lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on July 16, 1929 in Louisville as the son of Frank and Rose Marie Swartz Stewart. He was a retired maintenance worker from National Carbide in Louisville after 34 years, a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and attended the Eveleigh Independent Church.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Logsdon Stewart of 50 years; two step-daughters, Betty Ash and Mary Sue Norris, both of Leitchfield. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and Clifton Stewart; and two sisters, Louise and Clara Jane Stewart.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Wayne Clemons officiating.
Burial was in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
Bradley N. King
1932-2003
Bradley N. King, age 70, died on Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Kensington Manor Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
He was born on April 26, 1932 in Grayson County as the son of Daniel and Virgia Mae Dennison King. He was a retired vending operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel King and Virgia Mae Dennison King; his wife, Virginia King; a brother, Calvin King; and a sister, Mabel Roof.
He is survived by three daughters, Betty Hart of Summit, Kentucky, Carolyn Sue Schafer of Leitchfield and Judith Ann Howard of Big Clifty, Kentucky; a son, Kenneth Miller of Clarkson, Kentucky; a brother, Eugene King of Eastview, Kentucky; three sisters, Hilma Roof, Opal Neff and Alberta Gaither, all of Big Clifty. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson.
Burial was in the Moore Cemetery in Grayson County.
Vera W. Gragson
1914-2003
Vera W. Gragson, age 88, of Leitchfield, died on Monday, June 16, 2003 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born on August 30, 1914 as the daughter of Algenon and Lavena Thompson Watkins. She was a housewife and homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two sons, Jurrel and Dale; one brother, Clyde Watkins; and one sister, Margie Meredith.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ima Jean and William White of Ocala, Florida; one brother, Clayton Watkins of Leitchfield; two sisters, Marie Paris of Louisville, Kentucky and Ellen Priddy of Falls of Rough, Kentucky. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 12:00 noon at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Garry Watkins officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Flock Cemetery.
Lettie Smith Romans
1908-2003
Lettie Smith Romans, age 95, of Jeffersonville, Ind., formerly of Caneyville, died on Sunday, September 28, 2003 in Jeffersonville.
She was born on May 23, 1908 in Grayson County as the daughter of Athel and Maude Wortham Wilson. She was a retired school teacher and an assistant principal after serving 35 years; a member of the Caneyville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Caneyville Order the Eastern Star #27, and the Retired Teachers Association of Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lannie Smith and Albert Romans.
She is survived by a niece, Janice Bednarczyk of Louisville; a nephew, David Sandbach of Longmont, Col.; two stepchildren, Don Romans and Nancy Blankenship, both of Illinois. Also surviving are several step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Rev. Elizabeth Milby officiating.
Burial was in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
James "Sonny" R. Cockrell Sr.
1939-2003
James "Sonny" R. Cockrell Sr., age 64, of Morgantown, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
He was born in on January 17, 1939 in Grayson County. He was retired from CNH Enterprise and Sanitation. He was a member of Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church, and was a member of Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department, Butler County Rescue Squad and Butler County Conservation Club. He was also a sponsor of Boy Scouts of America Pack #208, and Kentuckiana Girl Scouts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Cockrell and Dorothy Minton Cockrell.
He is survived by his spouse, Kathleen Mayer Cockrell of Morgantown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and David Carden of Utica, Kentucky and Tami and Joey Reynolds of Morgantown; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Alice Cockrell Jr. and Michael and Gracie Cockrell, all of Hartford, Kentucky; two sisters, Joyce Nix of Morgantown and Earlene Embry of Caneyville, Kentucky. Also surviving 13 grandchildren, Tara, Lindsey, Alisha, James III, Megan, Kionna, Tessia, CaSandra and husband Stanley, Adam, Jerrica, Kristopher, Amber, Jazmin; and two great-grandchildren, MaLeigha and Shyanna.
Roy Maurice Grubbs
1924-2003
Roy Maurice Grubbs, age 78, of Leitchfield, died on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
He was born on November 27, 1924 in Butler County as the son of the late Alfred T. and Anna Taylor Grubbs. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leitchfield, where he was a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Dovie Vincent Grubbs of Leitchfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Reece and Mandy Grubbs of Leitchfield; one daughter, Lynn Pawley of Bowling Green; one grandson, Daniel Pawley of Bowling Green; and one brother, Alfred Thomas Grubbs of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Also surviving are four nieces and two nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Leitchfield First Baptist Church under the direction of the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Rev. Chris Butler and Rev. George Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Hill Haven Memory Gardens in Morgantown, Kentucky.
