George N. Whobrey
1924-2003

George N. Whobrey, age 79, of Leitchfield died on Monday, December 22, 2003 at Nortons Hospital in Louisville.

He was born on May 21, 1924 in Grayson County as the son of James Samuel and Gertie Probus Whobrey.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James Whobrey; and sister, Gene Carroll.

He is survived by one brother, Bobby Whobrey of Leitchfield; two sisters, Juanita Turner of Bowling Green and Betty Whobrey of Atlanta, Ga.; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel in Leitchfield.

Burial was in the Sanders Cemetery in Leitchfield.

Lottie Zachery
1919-2003

Lottie Zachery, age 84, of Leitchfield died on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville.

He was born on August 21, 1919 in Grayson County as the son of Ed and Dessie Nelson Zachery. He was a retired truck driver, an army veteran of World War II, a member of the Grayson County Senior Citizens, and was a member of the Church of Joy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Wilson Zachery.

He is survived by one son, Charles Zachery of Leitchfield; one daughter-in-law, Annie Zachery of Leitchfield; one brother, Rodney Zachery of Taylorsville, Ind.; two sisters, Edna Lake of Crab Orchard and Leona Hodges of Hamilton, Ohio. Also surviving are two grandchildren, John and Danielle Zachery, both of Leitchfield.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Rev. Nathan Lowe officiating.

Burial was in the Claggett Cemtery.

Mary Thomas Skaggs Hatfield
1919-2003

Mary Thomas Skaggs Hatfield, 84 of Big Clifty, died Saturday, Dec. 20.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1919, the daughter of Berthal and Lizzie Tucker Skaggs. She was a housewife and a member of Little Flock Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Berthal and Lizzie Tucker Skaggs and her husband Wavie Hatfield.

She is survived by six daugthers, Norma Rackwell, Christeen Beeler of Sonora, Ky., Wanda L. Neuner of Louisville, Helen Marie Polk of Leitchfield, Mayonna Creekmore of Elizabethtown, and Bonnie Lou Smith of New Haven, Ky.; two sons Stanley Ray Hatfield of Georgia and William Dale Hatfield of Custer, Ky.; and one sister Dessie Montelonga of Georgia.

Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson. Brother David Brown will be officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Christian Cemetery.

Friends and family may visit Monday, Dec. 22 after 2 p.m. at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.

Penny Helen Wilson
1940-2003

Penny Helen Wilson, age 62, of Leitchfield died on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at her residence.

She was born on December 27, 1940 as the daughter of Clay and Ruby Webb in Grayson County.

She is survived by her husband, Mack Henry Wilson; her mother, Ruby Webb; one son, Marty Wilson of Louisville; two brothers, Curtis Webb and Lynn Webb, both of Leitchfield; and one sister, Clayetta Payne of Louisville. Also surviving are two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Broadway Baptist Church in Leitchfield.

Burial was in the Broadway Cemetery.

Irene Carter
1934-2003

Irene Carter, age 69, of Louisville died on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 in Edmonson County.

She was born on March 16, 1934. She was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church in Edmonson County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Florence Morris Carter; and one sister, Pauline Carter.

She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Carter Lindsey of Louisville and Loretta Guidry of Camden, Ariz. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.

Ora Cain Layman
1905-2003

Ora Cain Layman, 98 of Clarkson, died Friday, Dec. 26 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1905 in Grayson County, the daughter of John Robert and Mary Ellen dunn Cain.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Layman.

She is survived by one sister Eua Williams; three nieces Carlene Williams of Clarkson, Norma Shaw of Louisville, and Gladys Duvall of Leitchfield; and two nephews Doyle Gragson of Louisville and Tim Shaw of Fern Creek.

The funeral will be Sunday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel with burial in the Little Flock Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at the home of Watson & Hunt Funeral Directors.
