Arthur I. Higdon, age 80, of Clarkson died on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 in Leitchfield at Grayson Manor.
He was born on March 24, 1923 in Iberia as the son of John S. Higdon and Mayme (Alvey) Higdon. He was an Army veteran of WW II, heavy equipment operator at Fort Knox, a dairy farmer, and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Higdon of Clarkson; two sons, Colin Higdon of Louisville and Bo Higdon of Lebanon Junction; five daughters, Carol Petry of Vidor, Texas, Sharron Fey of Louisville, Dixie Weafer of Owensboro, Norma Gibson of Owensboro, and Norene Crady of Louisville. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at St. Anthony Church with Rev. Brian Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the St. Anthony Cemetery.
Clarence Whobrey
1929-2004
Clarence Whobrey, age 74, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004.
He was born on March 18, 1929 in Grayson County as the son of Willard and Emily McGrew Whobrey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Mae Atkins Whobrey.
He is survived by four children, Lois (Gary) Olliges, Linda (Glendon) Luther, Norma (Edgar) Whobrey and Wilfred Jay Whobrey; one sister, Florene Haynes of Clarkson; two brothers, Elwood and Leo Whobrey, both of Leitchfield. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Christine, Tina, Tanya, Michelle, Jennifer, Alisa, Jodi, Jason, Lindsey and Taylor; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 16, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.
Burial was in the Anneta Cemetery.
Allen Wayne Harp
1950-2004
Allen Wayne Harp, age 53, of Falls of Rough, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on July 17, 1950, in Louisville, as the son of Stoy and Nathel Carroll Harp.
He was a member of the Teamster Union Local #89 and the Moose Lodge at Rough River.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Trimble Harp of Falls of Rough; two sons, Charles Harp of Louisville and Robert Trimble of South Dakota; his mother, Nathel Harp of Fairdale; two brothers, Kenneth Harp of Bardstown and Donald Harp of Lebanon Junction; four sisters, Linda King of New Heaven, Ky., Marvina Newton of Shepherdsville, Donna Yunt and Doris Castleman, both of Louisville. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Charley Harp and Jordan Trimble, both of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stoy Harp.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 2, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Rev. Roger Allen officiating.
Burial was in the Union Light cemetery.
Alva Bell
1921-2004
Alva Bell, ae 82, of Owensboro, died on February 22, 2004 at Owensboro Medical Health System.
He was born March 9, 1921 in Grayson County as the son of Joseph L. Bell and Roda Jane Nugent. He was a retired Boilermaker from TVA. He was a member of Boilermaker Local 40, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Bell of Owensboro; one son, Jerry Bell of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Willard Bell of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and one sister, Otie Toms of Clarkson. Also surviving are grandson, Jeffery Wayne Bell, granddaughter, Jennifer L. Winkles, and great-granddaughter, Kylie Winkles, all of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Chapel in Owensboro with Bro. Lealin Geary officiating.
Burial was in the Rosehill Cemetery.
Proctor Litsey
1917-2003
Proctor Litsey, age 86, of Caneyville died on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on April 4, 1917 in Grayson County as the son of E. V. and Ada Scott Proctor Litsey. He was a retired farmer, an army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World, and the Disabled American Veterans.
His wife, Ruby Mae Green Litsey preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Warfield and Betty Witten, both of Leitchfield, and Frances Brooks of Caneyville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Wendall Warfield, Jennifer Carnes and Aaron and Jason Witten; four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Reverends Buddy Brooks and Jim McIntosh officiating.
Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Phillip Ray Coates
1955-2003
Phillip Ray Coates, age 48, of Leitchfield died on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on July 7, 1955 in Grayson County as the son of Randall and Helen Decker Coates. He was a bus driver for the Grayson County School System and was a member of the Providence General Baptist Church in Leitchfield.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Woosley Coates, two sons, Phillip Michael and Randall Ray Coates, both of Leitchfield, one step-son, Mark West of Morgantown; his father, Randall Coates of Leitchfield; three sisters, Darla Trigueros, Lenora Denise Tomes and Rochelle Rigdon, all of Leitchfield; and one brother, Kenny Coates of Leitchfield. Also surviving is his grandmother, Lena Shephard of Leitchfield; one granddaughter, Alexis Coates, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Yvonne Coates.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the New Freedom General Baptist Church at Saddler, Ky. with Rev. Ronald Meredith officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield was in charge of the arrangements.
